Mets vs. Phillies Game 161 Recap

The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 7-4 tonight in 11 innings and improved their record to 70-91. SS Amed Rosario drove home the first run of the game with an RBI single in the top of the fourth inning. LF Brandon Nimmo hit a two-run triple in the top of the fifth inning. 3B Asdrubal Cabrera hit a RBI double in the top of the seventh inning. Cabrera came through again in the top of the eleventh inning with the go-ahead three-run homer.

RHP Seth Lugo finished up his season on a good note allowing two runs on six hits in four innings.  He had four strikeouts and no walks. RHP Chasen Bradord followed with a scoreless bottom of the fifth inning. LHP Josh Smoker recorded the first two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning. RHP Paul Sewald gave up two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. RHP Jamie Callahan got the second out in the bottom of the seventh inning. LHP Jerry Blevins had to come in to get the last out in the bottom of the seventh inning. RHP A.J. Ramos pitched a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning. Rookie RHP Jacob Rhyme had two scoreless innings in the bottom of the ninth and tenth innings and picked up his first Major League win. RHP Jeurys Familia finished it off with a scoreless bottom of the eleventh inning and got his sixth save on the season.

Mets vs. Phillies Game 160 Recap

The New York Mets lost to the Philadelphia Phillies 6-2 tonight and dropped their record to 69-91. RHP Matt Harvey made his final start of the season and struggled in his last outing. Harvey allowed four runs on seven hits in four innings. He gave up three walks and had three strikeouts. RHP Hansel Robles followed and gave up two solo homers in the bottom of the fifth. Robles came back for the bottom of the sixth and pitched a scoreless inning. RHP Kevin McGowan pitched a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning. RHP Kevin McGowan pitched a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning.

The Mets offense got off to a quick start after 2B Jose Reyes led off with a homer in the top of the first inning. 1B Dominic Smith also hit a solo homer in the top of the fifth inning.

Mets vs. Braves Game 159 Recap

The New York Mets defeated the Atlanta Braves 7-1 tonight in their final home game of the season and improved their record to 69-90. The offense struggled for the first three innings against Braves starter LHP Sean Newcombe, but finally broke through in the fourth inning. Catcher Travis d'Arnaud drove in the first run of the game after grounding into a fielder's choice which brought home a run. The next inning d'Arnaud drove in two more runs after hitting an RBI single. In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Mets broke the game open with four runs. 1B Dominic Smith hit a three-run homer. 2B Jose Reyes added a RBI double.

RHP Robert Gsellman made his final start of the 2017 season and finished up strong. Gsellman allowed one run on six hits in six innings. He gave up one walk and had four strikeouts. He picked up his eighth win of the season. RHP  Jamie Callahan came in next with a scoreless top of the seventh inning. RHP Chasen Bradfor followed with a scoreless top of the eighth inning. RHP Paul Sewald closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth inning.

Mets vs. Braves Game 158 Recap

The New York Mets defeated the Atlanta Braves 4-3 tonight and improved their record to 68-90. Rafael Montero got the start and wasn't as sharp as he's been in previous outings. Montero gave up three runs in six innings. He allowed two walks with three strikeouts and wound up with a no-decision.  LHP Josh Smoker came in next and recorded one out in the top of the seventh. RHP Hansel Robles followed and got the last two outs in the top of the seventh inning and came back out for the top of the eighth and pitched a scoreless inning. RHP Jeurys Familia came in for the top of the ninth for a back-to back appearance and had a scoreless inning and picked up his second win.

The Mets offense was held scoreless by Braves starter former Met RHP R.A. Dickey for the first six innings. In the bottom of the seventh inning, The Mets broke through with two runs after CF Brandon Nimmo singled and catcher Kevin Plawecki followed with a two-run homer. In the bottom of the ninth inning, Plawecki led out with a single and 1B Dominc Smith walked, which put two runners on with no one out. Two batters later, RF Travis Taijeron drove home the winning run with a walk-off single.

Mets vs. Braves Game 157 Recap

The New York Mets defeated the Atlanta Braves 3-2 tonight in the second game of their doubleheader and improved their record to 67-90. The Mets offense was held scoreless for the first two innings, but broke through with two runs in the bottom of the third inning. 3B Asdrubal Cabrera drove in the first run of the game with an RBI ground-out. Catcher Travis d'Arnaud followed with an RBI double. d'Arnaud drove in another run in the bottom of the eighth with a solo homer.

RHP Seth Lugo had his best outing since making his return off the of the disabled list. Lugo allowed no runs in six innings. He gave up two hits and no walks with no strikeouts. Lugo picked up his seventh win of the season. LHP Jerry Blevins came in next and was taken out with two outs in the top of the seventh inning after giving up a hit and walk. RHP Chasen Bradford had to cone to get the lasy out in the top of the seventh and came back out for the top of the eighth and pitched a scoreless inning. RHP Jeurys Familia came on in the top of the ninth inning to close it out, but struggled and gave up two runs. Famillia gave up an RBI single to 3B Jace Peterson and an RBI ground-out to pinch-hitter Matt Kemp. Despite not having his best stuff, he was able to buckle down and make pinch-hitter Tyler Flowers ground out to end it and was able to pick up his fifth save.

The New York Mets lost to the Atlanta Braves today 9-2 in the first game of the doubleheader and dropped their record to 66-90. RHP Chris Flexen started out well with three scoreless innings, but gave up a solo homer to 2B Ozzie Albies. Flexen came back with a scoreless top of the fifth inning, but was taken out in the top of the sixth inning after loading the bases. LHP Josh Smoker followed and gave up three inherited runs. RHP Erik Goedell came in next and gave up a run in the top of the seventh inning. Rookie RHP Kevin McGowan gave up thee runs in the top of the eighth inning. Rookie RHP Jacob Rhyme gave up a run in the top of the ninth inning.

Catcher Tomas Nido drove in the only runs of the game with a two-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Mets vs. Nationals Game 155 Recap

The New York Mets lost to the Washington Nationals 3-2 today to lose two out of three games in the series and drop their record to 66-89. RHP Jacob deGrom got the start and was dominant in the first two innings with five strikeouts. In the third inning, deGrom allowed a two-run homer to SS Trea Turner. After a scoreless top of the fourth inning, he gave up a RBI single to catcher Jose Lobaton in the top of the fifth inning and then pitched a scoreless top of the sixth inning. Degrom gave up three runs (two earned) on five hits in six innings. He reached the 200-inning plateau for the first time and finished the year with a record of 15-10, 3.53 ERA, 239 strikeouts and 59 walks in 201.1 innings. RHP Hansel Robles came in next and pitched two scoreless innings in the top of the eighth and ninth innings. RHP Paul Sewald pitched a scoreless top of the ninth inning.

The Mets offense got on the board early with a solo homer by LF Brandon Nimmo in the bottom of the first inning but was shut down after that by Nationals starter RHP Max Scherizer. Scherizer was dominant allowing one run on three hits with 10 strikeouts. 2B Jose Reyes drove in the other run with an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Mets vs. Nationals Game 154 Recap

The New York Mets lost to the Washington Nationals 4-3 in 10 innings tonight and dropped their record to 66-88. RHP Noah Syndergarrd made his return to the mound for the first time since April 30th after being out with a lat injury. Syndergarrd went one inning and threw five pitches. He topped out at 98 mph. RHP Matt Harvey came in next in relief for the first time in his career. Harvey struggled with command once again and gave up three runs on four hits in four innings. He gave up a two-run homer to 1B Adam Lind in the top of the fourth inning and a solo homer to catcher Matt Wieters in the top of the fifth inning. LHP Josh Smoker followed and pitched a scoreless top of the sixth inning. RHP Chasen Bradford pitched a scoreless top of the seventh inning. LHP Jerry Blevins came on in the top of the eighth inning and retired 2B Daniel Murphy to start the inning, but was taken out after walking 3B Anthony Rendon. Rookie RHP Jamie Callahan was able to finish the inning and get the last two outs. RHP Jeurys Familia pitched a scoreless top of the ninth inning. Rookie RHP Jacob Rhyme gave up the game-winning homer to Murphy in the top of the tenth inning and was taken out with one out after a couple of walks. Rookie RHP Kevin McGowan had to come to record the last two outs in the inning.

The Mets offense scored all three of its runs in the bottom of the third inning. LF Brandon Nimmo hit a RBI double. Catcher Kevin Plawecki followed with a two-run single.

Mets vs. Nationals Game 153 Recap

The New York Mets defeated the Washington Nationals 7-6 tonight to snap their three-game losing streak and improved their record to 66-87. RHP Robert Gsellman got the start in place of RHP Jacob deGrom who was pushed back to Sunday due to naseau and an upset stomach. Gsellman wasn't nearly as good as he was in his last start. He gave up six runs (five earned) on four hits in six innings. Gsellman allowed three walks and had four strikeouts. He wound up with a no-decision. RHP Chasen Bradford came in next and pitched a scoreless top of the sixth inning. He picked up his second win. RHP Paul Sewald pitched a scoreless top of the seventh inning. Sewald came back out for the top of the eighth inning and got the first two outs and was then taken out. LHP Jerry Blevins had to come in to 2B Daniel Murphy for the last out of the inning. RHP A.J. Ramos came in for the ninth inning, but was unable to close it out. Ramos was taken out with one out and runners on first and second. LHP Josh Smoker appeared next and got the second out of the inning. RHP Jeurys Familia was able to get the last out of the game and pick up his fourth save of the season. This was Famila's first save since May 5th.

The Mets offense got an early run from catcher Travis d'Arnaud on a solo homer in the bottom of the second inning. In the bottom of the fifth inning, RF Nori Aoki got the rally started with an RBI single. Later on in the inning, 3B Asdrubal Cabrera hit a RBI single. D'Arnaud hit a three-run homer to tie the game. Aoki drove in another run on an RBI double in the bottom of the sixth to give the Mets the lead.

Mets vs. Marlins Game 152 Recap

The New York Mets lost to the Miami Marlins 9-2 today to drop their record to 65-87. Rafael Montero got the start and got into immediate trouble in the bottom of the first inning after 2B Dee Gordon doubled to lead-off the inning and gave up an RBI single to LF Marcell Ozuna later in the inning. In the bottom of the third inning, Montero gave up another RBI single to Ozuana and then allowed a two-run homer to 1B Justin Bour. He gave up an RBI single to RF Giancarlo Stanton in the bottom of the fourth inning. Montero allowed five runs on seven hits in four innings. He had two walks and two strikeouts. After Montero was taken out, RHP Chris Flexen pitched two scoreless innings in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings. RHP Kevin McGowan pitched a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning. RHP Erik Goeddel came in the bottom of the eighth inning and gave up back-to back homers to catcher A.J. Ellis and SS Miguel Rojas. Goedell recorded one out, but then gave up a single to 2B Dee Gordon and a two-run homer to RF Giancarlo Stanton. After that Goedell was taken out and LHP Tommy Millone appeared next and got the last two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning.

The Mets offense was scoreless for the first four innings, but in the top of the fifth inning, catcher Kevin Plawecki led off with a single, and RF Taylor Taijeron later singled in the inning to make it first and third with one out. SS Jose Reyes got the offense off to a fast start with a lead-off homer in the top of the first inning, but went scoreless for the next four innings. Catcher Travis d'Arnaud hit a two-run homer in the top of the sixth inning. Reyes drove in another run with an RBI single in the top of the ninth inning.

RHP Seth Lugo had a solid start allowing one run on three hits in five inning with one walk and three strikeouts. Lugo was taken out after five innings after only throwing 83 pitches. LHP Josh Smoker came in next and pitched a scoreless bottom of the sixth inning. RHP Jeurys Familia pitched a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning. LHP Jerry Blevins pitched a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning. RHP A.J. Ramos came on in the bottom of the ninth inning to close it out, but wound up allowing three runs and blowing the save. Ramos gave up a solo homer to 1B Justin Bour and RBI singles to pinch-hitter A.J. Ellis and LF Ichiro Suzuki. RHP Paul Sewald had to come in to get the last out of the ninth inning after striking out CF Christian Yelich and came back out for the bottom of the tenth inning and gave up a walk-off homer to catcher J.T. Mets vs. Marlins Game 150 Recap

The New York Mets lost to the Miami Marlins 13-1 tonight to snap their two-game winning steak and drop their record to 65-85. RHP Matt Harvey got into immediate trouble after he gave up a RBI single to 1B Justin Bour in the bottom of the first inning. In the bottom of the third inning, he threw a wild pitch which allowed RF Giancarlo Stanton to score. Harvey gave up a three-run homer to Stanton in the fourth inning and allowed two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on a RBI triple by 2B Dee Gordon and an RBI single to Stanton, his fourth RBI of the game. That would be it for Harvey after he gave up seven runs on twelve hits in four innings. He had two walks and two strikeouts. LHP Tommy Millone came in next and allowed two runs on one hit in 1/3 of an inning. RHP Hansel Robles followed and was even worse giving up three runs on four hits in 1/3 of an inning. RHP Chris Flexen appeared next and pitched a scoreless bottom of the sixth inning. Rookie RHP Jacob Rhame and gave up a solo homer to LF Marcell Ozuna. Rookie RHP Jamie Callahan had a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning.

The Mets offense struggled night all against Marlins starter RHP Dan Strailly. 2B Gavin Cecchini drove in the only run of the game with a RBI single in the top of the fourth inning.

SS Amed Rosario drove in the second run of the first inning after he grounded into a fielder's choice. The Mets offense was scoreless for the next eight innings, but broke the game open with three runs in the top of the ninth inning. Rookie 3B Phillip Evans hit a RBI double, which was the first RBI of his career. Pinch-hitter Asdrubal Cabrera followed with a two-run homer.

CF Juan Lagares drove in the first run of the game with a RBI single in the top of the second inning. 2B Gavin Cecchini followed with an RBI double. LF Brandon Nimmo hit a RBI double in the top of the third inning. 3B Asdrubal Cabrera also followed with a RBI double. Cecchini drove in another run in the top of the fourth inning with an RBI double and had the best game of his career with three hits and two RBI's. 1B Dominic Smith hit a two-run double in the top of the seventh inning.

RHP Jacob deGrom had a stellar outing giving up one run on five hits in seven innings. DeGrom picked up his 15th win of the season. RHP Jeurys Familia pitched a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning. RHP A.J. Ramos gave up two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning.

RHP Rafael Montero started out well with four scoreless innings, but struggled in the bottom of the fifth inning. Montero left with the based loaded and two outs. He gave up three runs on seven hits in 4 2/3 innings. Montero had six strikeouts and two walks. After he was taken out, RHP Chasen Bradford got the last out in the bottom of the fifth inning and the first out in the top of the sixth inning. LHP Tommy Milone recorded the last two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning, LHP Jerry Blevins pitched a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning. RHP Paul Sewald pitched a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning.

The New York Mets lost to the Chicago Cubs 14-6 to get swept in the three-game series and dropped their record to 63-83. RHP Seth Lugo had a rough outing and was unable to go past three innings. Lugo gave up eight runs (seven earned) on nine hits in three innings. He gave up one walk and had four strikeouts. LHP Josh Smoker came in next and allowed one run and one inherited run  with three strikeouts in two innings. LHP Jerry Blevins followed and gave up two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and recorded two outs. RHP Paul Sewald had to appear next to get the last out in the bottom the sixth inning, but gave up three runs. RHP Chris Flexen pitched a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning. RHP Matt Harvey made his third start since coming off the DL and had another difficult outing. Harvey gave up five runs on seven hits in 3 1/3 innings. He allowed four walks and had two strikeouts. Harvey left with the based loaded and one out in the bottom of the fourth inning. RHP Hansel Robles came in next and gave up three inherited runs that were charged to Harvey in the bottom of the fourth inning. Robles came back for the bottom of the fifth inning and pitched a scoreless inning. RHP Chasen Bradford followed and gave up four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. The New York Mets lost to the Chicago Cubs 8-3 tonight and dropped their record to 63-81. RHP Robert Gsellman had a difficult outing allowing four runs in four innings with 93 pitches. He gave up five hits with five walks and four strikeouts. LHP Tommy Millone came in next and gave up a solo homer to LF Kyle Scwarber. Mets Call Up Tomas Nido

The New York Mets announced today that they are calling up catching prospect Tomas Nido from Double-A Binghamton. Nido struggled offensively this year hitting .232 with eight home runs and 60 RBI's. He did better defensively throwing out 45 % of possible base-stealers and giving up six passed balls in 102 games. Last year, Nido hit .320 with seven homers in 90 games for Single-A St. Lucie. It will be interesting to see how Nido fits into the Mets plans with catchers Travis d'Arnaud and Kevin Plawecki hitting well in September since he considered to be the catcher of the future.

Mets vs. Reds Game 143 Recap

The New York Mets lost to the Cincinnati Reds 10-5 today to snap their three-game winning streak and dropped their record to 63-80. RHP Jacob deGrom didn't have his best stuff, but was able to limit the damage to two runs on three hits in six innings and had 10 strikeouts and wound up with a no-decision. DeGrom is the third Mets pitcher along with Tom Seaver and Dwight Gooden to strike out 10 + batters ten times in a single season. After deGrom was taken out, RHP Paul Sewald came in next and gave up three-runs on a three-run homer by SS Zack Cosart and recorded only two outs. RHP Jerry Blevins followed and got the last out in the top of the seventh inning. RHP Jeurys Familia gave up go-ahead runs in the top of the eighth inning on a two-run homer by catcher Tucker Barnhart. LHP Josh Smoker was able to get  1B Joey Votto for the last out in the eighth inning. RHP Hansel Robles allowed three runs in the top of the ninth inning on a three-run homer by Barnhart.

The Mets offense got off to a quick start in the bottom of the first inning on a RBI ground-out by catcher Travis d'Arnaud. 1B Dominic Smith hit a RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning. Smith drove in another run in the bottom of the sixth inning on a solo homer and has hit five homers since being called up with five extra-base hits and eight RBI's in September. 2B Jose Reyes hit a two-run double in the bottom of the sixth.

Injury News:

Pinch-hitter infielder Asdrubal Cabrera left in the game in the bottom of the sixth inning after getting hit by a pitch on the ankle. He was diagnosed with a right ankle contusion and X-Rays were negative.

The New York Mets defeated the Cincinnati Reds 6-1 tonight for their fourth consecutive win and improved their record to 63-79. Catcher Kevin Plawecki drove in the first two runs of the game with a two-run homer in the bottom of the second inning. 1B Dominic Smith hit a RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning. RHP Rafael Montero had a solid start and was able to get out of several jams despite having a lot of traffic on the basepaths. Montero allowed one run on five hits in five innings. He gave up five walks and had five strikeouts. Montero picked up his fifth win of the season. RHP Chasen Bradford came in next and pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings. Mets vs. Reds Game 141 Recap

The New York Mets defeated the Cincinnati Reds 5-0 tonight for their third consecutive win and improved their record to 62-79. Rookie Travis Taijeron drove home the first run of the game with a solo homer in the bottom of the second inning, the first of his career. SS Jose Reyes also hit a solo homer in the bottom of the third inning. Reyes added another homer a two-run shot in the bottom of the fifth inning. He has now 101 career homers with the Mets and is the thirteenth player in franchise history with at least 100 homers. 3B Matt Reynolds grounded into a fielder's choice and reached on an error in the bottom of the sixth inning, which brought home a run.

RHP Seth Lugo bounced back after losing it in the sixth inning in his last outing. Lugo pitched six scoreless innings and gave up four hits. He had one walk and four strikeouts. Lugo recorded his sixth win on the season. LHP Tommy Millone followed and pitched a scoreless top of the seventh inning. RHP Paul Sewald came in next and got the first two outs in the top of the eighth inning. LHP Jerry Blevins appeared next and got the last out in the top of the eighth. Blevins came back out for the top of the ninth and was taken out after he loaded the bases with one out. RHP AJ Ramos had to come in and get the last two outs and pick up his 27th save.

Mets Call Up Phillip Evans

The New York Mets announced today that prospect utility man Phillip Evans will be called up from Triple-A Las Vegas. Evans hit .279 with 11 home runs, 26 doubles, a career-high 56 RBI's and 42 walks in Triple-A Las Vegas. He can play several positions and has played left field, shortstop, second base and third base in Triple-A this year. Evans won the batting title last year in Double-A Binghamton hitting .335.

Mets vs. Reds Game 140 Recap

The New York Mets defeated the Cincinnati Reds 7-2 tonight for their second consecutive win and third in last four games to improve their record to 61-79. RHP Matt Harvey got the start on normal rest and had a better outing after his last start in Houston. Harvey allowed two runs on five hits in five innings. He gave up one walk and had one strike. Harvey showed more life on his fastball and threw as hard as 95 mph, but threw mostly 92-94 mph. It was a good step forward for him and hopefully he can build off this start. Harvey picked up his fifth win of the season. LHP Josh Smoker followed and pitched a scoreless top of the sixth inning. RHP Jeurys Familia pitched two scoreless innings in the top of the seventh and eighth innings. RHP A.J. Ramos closed it out in a non-save situation with a scoreless top of the ninth inning.

The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 6-3 tonight in a rain-shortened six inning game and improved their record to 60-79. The Mets offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first inning and scored three runs. 3B Asdrubal Cabrera hit a RBI single and catcher Travis d'Arnaud followed with a two-run homer. In the bottom of the second inning, RHP Robert Gsellman hit a RBI single for his fifth hit and fourth RBI on the season. LF Brandon Nimmo added a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third inning. Nimmo added another sacrifice in the bottom of the fifth inning.

RHP Robert Gsellman had a solid start allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits in six innings. He gave up four walks and had one strikeout. He picked up his sixth win.

The New York Mets announced today that they have recalled RHP Kevin McGowan from Triple-A Las Vegas. McGowan appeared in one game for the Mets in August and gave up one run on two hits in 1.1 innings. He is a former 13th round pick and appeared in 47 games with a 6-5 record and a 4.15 ERA for the Las Vegas 51s this year.

Mets vs. Phillies Game 137 Recap

The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 11-7 this afternoon and improved their record to 59-78. CF Juan Lagares drove home the first run of the game with an RBI single in the bottom of the second inning. SS Jose Reyes hit a solo homer in the bottom of third inning. 3B Asdrubal Cabrera hit a two-run homer two batters later.  In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Mets offense broke the game open with six runs. 2B Gavin Cecchini hit a two-run single. Jose Reyes hit a RBI single.  RF Nori Aoki followed with a RBI ground-out. Reyes came around to score on a wild pitch. LF Brandon Nimmo capped off the inning with an RBI single. Nimmo hit another RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning.

RHP Rafael Montero started out well allowing one run in the first four innings, but faded in the top of the fifth and sixth innings. He was unable to finish the top of the sixth inning and recorded one out. Montero allowed four runs on five hits in 5 1/3 innings. He gave up five walks and had three strikeouts. Montero managed to pick up his fourth win of the season.  RHP Paul Sewald came in next and allowed a run before getting the last two outs in the top of the sixth inning. LHP Jerry Blevins pitched a scoreless top of the seventh inning. RHP Hansel Robles had a difficult outing allowing two runs in 1 2/3 innings pitched. RHP A.J. The New York Mets lost to the Houston Astros 8-6 today and were swept in the three-game series and dropped their record to 58-78. Rookie RHP Chris Flexen had a rough start allowing seven runs on nine hits in four innings. He gave up two walks and had one strikeout. Flexen had some showed promise, but needs to get sent back down to the minors for more seasoning and to work on his command and off-speed pitches.  RHP Chasen Bradford came in next and pitched two scoreless innings in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings. RHP Jeurys Familia allowed a run in the bottom of the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly by RF Josh Reddick. LHP Josh Smoker followed and recorded the first two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning. RHP A.J. Ramos got the last out in the inning.

The Mets offense got off to a quick start in the top of the first inning with two runs. Catcher Travis d'Arnaud hit a RBI ground-out and first baseman Dominic Smith hit a RBI single. In the top of the second innings, the Mets scored two more runs. CF Juan Lagares hit a RBI single and RF Norichika Aoki also hit a RBI single. In the top of the fifth, Aoki hit another RBI single. RHP Seth Lugo started out well with five scoreless innings and giving up five walks and one walk. It all fell apart for Lugo in the bottom of the sixth inning after he gave up two runs on three hits and a walk. Lugo gave up four runs on eight hits in five innings and gave up two walks with six strikeouts.  He was unable to get an out in the inning and left with runners on first and third. RHP Hansel Robles came in next and gave an RBI ground-out and a sacrifice fly, but both runs were charged to Lugo. Robles came back out for the bottom of the seventh inning and pitched a scoreless inning. LHP Jerry Blevins followed and was able to record the first two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning. RHP Chasen Bradford got the last out in the inning.

The Mets offense struggled all night against Astros pitching and managed just six hits and one walk and one run. 1B Dominc Smith drove home the only run of the game with a RBI double in the top of the sixth inning.

Wilmer Flores left the game in the top of the fourth inning after taking a foul ball off his nose. X- rays later revealed he had a broken nose.

Mets vs. Astros Game 134 Recap

The New York Mets lost to the Houston Astros 12-8 in the first game of a doubleheader and dropped their record to 58-76. RHP Matt Harvey made his first start since July 14th and had a terrible outing. Harvey allowed seven runs on eight hits in two innings. This was the shortest start of his career. He had three strikeouts and no outs. Harvey hasn't been right all season and it might be best for him if he was shut down for the rest of the year. After he was taken out, LHP Tommy Millone came in and pitched a scoreless bottom of the third inning, but gave up three runs in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings. RHP Jacob Rhyme who was acquired in the Curtis Granderson trade made his MLB debut in the bottom of the fifth inning and was able to get the last out in the inning and then pitched a scoreless bottom of the sixth inning. RHP Jamie Callahan who came over in the Addison Reed trade also made his MLB debut in the bottom of the seventh inning  LHP Josh Smoker followed and was able to end the bottom of the seventh inning. RHP Erik Goedell pitched a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning.

The Mets offense was scoreless for the first three innings until 1B Dominc Smith hit a two-run homer in the top of the fourth inning. 3B Asdrubal Cabrera hit a RBI single in the top of the seventh inning. DH Wilmer Flores followed a grand slam.  Cabrera also hit a solo homer in the top of the ninth inning.

Mets Sign Nori Aoki

The New York Mets announced today that they have signed outfielder Nori Aoki and will be eligible to play in the second game of a doubleheader tonight. Aoki previously played for the Houston Astros and Toronto Blue Jays before being released on August 28. He has hit .274 with five homers and 27 RBI in 83 games this year. Aoki is a lifetime .285 hitter.  He will help the Mets a lot since they have been needing to sign to an outfielder after trading Curtis Granderson and Jay Bruce and have forced infielders Jose Reyes and Matt Reynolds to play out of position.  Aoki will be able to play left and right field.

Mets Call Up Jamie Callahan and Jacob Rhyme

The New York Mets are calling relievers RHP Jamie Callahan and RHP Jacob Rhyme for this weekend series against the Houston Astros.  Callahan was acquired from the Boston Red Sox as part of the Addison Reed trade and has allowed two runs on 12 hits, four walks and 10 strikeouts in 12 innings since pitching in Triple-A for the Las Vegas 51s. This year he has an overall ERA of 2.94, 1.25 WHIP, seven saves, and 66 strikeouts to 17 walks in 52 innings this year. Callahan was a former second round pick and features three pitches with a 94-98 mph fastball, splitter and slider. He is ranked as the 23th best Mets prospect.

Rhyme was traded from the Los Angeles Dodgers as part of the Curtis Granderson trade. He has allowed one run in six innings with two hits, zero walks and 11 strikeouts in Triple-A Las Vegas.  In Triple A, Rhyme has a 4.00 ERA 1.19 WHIP, 66 strikeouts and 10 walks in 54 innings. Rhyme has a powerful  two-seam fastball from 94-100 mph, hard slider and mixes in a splitter. He is ranked as the 30th best Mets prospect.
