They are now 6.5 games out of first place in the National League East. 2B Neil Walker had 4 RBI's with a triple and a game-winning three run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning. His bat has caught fire recently after he was in a long slump for a couple of months. CF Aledandro De Aza hit an RBI single. In addition to Walker, he has been on fire and has hit well for last few weeks. He needs to continue to hit in Yoenis Cespedes's absence. Hopefully this can be the game to get the Mets offense going on.

The Mets offense struggled once again and couldn't get a timely hit with runners in scoring position. The only run they scored was on a solo homer by 1B James Loney. They were unable to score with the based loaded. It's very frustrating how they are not able to hit with men on base. Something has to be done to shake this lineup out of its slump. . They need to make a move to shake this offense up before the trading deadline at 4:00 P.M. on Monday. They need to get a bat like Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy. He hits well with runners in scoring position and would hopefully help the offense get some timely hits in key spots. He's the kind of hitter the Mets lack in their lineup and would definitely make a difference.

RHP Jacob deGrom had his worst outing of the season giving up 5 runs in just 3 2/3 innings. He allowed one walk and struck out 5. This was a far cry from Degrom's last outing where he had a complete game 1 hit shutout against the Phillies. He didn't have the same command as his last start and he fell behind many of the Marlins hitters. It was a difficult start for him, but he will bounce back. Every pitcher has a rough outing, even the best outings.  After deGrom was taken out, RHP Seth Lugo came in and gave up a run. LHP Antonio Bastardo also gave up a run.

Matt Harvey to Undego Season-Ending Surgery

Mets RHP Matt Harvey has decided to have surgery to fix his Thoratic Outlet Syndrome. The surgery will be performed by Dr. Robert Thomspon in St. Louis. Thompson also operated on former Met RHP Dillion Gee to remove a blood clot in his shoulder. Harvey's agent Scott Boras said that Harvey's doctors recommended to have the surgery now so he can ready for the 2017 season. Boras said that Harvey has had a difficult time with command of his pitches because of loss of feeling in his fingertips going back to Spring Training. This could be the reason why Harvey has struggled so much this year. In the meantime, Harvey's injury could allow RHP Logan Verrett or LHP Sean Gilmartin could emerge in the rotation. It's possible the Mets could also go out and trade for a starting pitcher.
