Mets Rally To Beat Angels 7-5 After Trailing By Four Runs

The New York Mets beat the Los Angeles Angels 7-5 tonight at Citi Field for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 57-44.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first three innings until the bottom of the fourth after CF Jeff McNeil walked with one out and two batters later, 3B Brett Baty hit a two-run homer.

After scoreless innings in the bottom of the fifth and sixth, catcher Francisco Alvarez walked to lead off the bottom of the seventh and 2B Luisangel Acuna followed with a single.

LF Brandon Nimmo was then hit by a pitch to load the bases.

SS Francisco Lindor came up next and grounded into a fielder's choice to bring home a run and also beat out the grounder to avoid double play.

Lindor then stole second and RF Juan Soto followed with game-tying two-run single.

In the bottom of the eighth, Baty walked with one out and Alvarez followed with a double to right field.

Pinch hitter Ronny Mauricio came up next and grounded out to 3B Yoan Mocada, but Moncada'a throw was wide home which allowed Alvarez to score game-winning run.

Nimmo followed with a sacrifice fly.

RHP Kodai Senga started out with a scoreless top of the first and then gave up a solo homer to catcher Logan O'Hoppe in the top of the second.

Senga gave up a lead-off hit in the top of the third and after retiring the next two hitters, walked DH Mike Trout and then gave up a two-run double to LF Taylor Ward.

Senga gave up a RBI single to the following hitter CF Joe Adell and then Senga was taken out after the inning.

His final line was three innings, four hits, four runs, three walks and five strikeouts.

RHP Kevin Herget followed with 2.1 scoreless innings.

RHP Chris Devenski came in next with one out in the top of the sixth and got the final two outs.

Devenki came back out for the top of the seventh and had a more difficult time with a single and caught stealing, walk, hit by pitch and a RBI single and was then taken out.

RHP Huascar Brazoban came in next and picked up two huge outs to keep it a three-run game.

LHP Brooks Raley threw a scoreless top of the eighth and picked up his first win.

RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the top of the ninth and bounced back from his blown save yesterday with a dominating performance striking out the side to pick up his 20th save.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Tuesday, July 22 at home against the Angels at 7:10 p.m.

Mets Beat Reds 3-2 Led By Stellar Pitching From Peterson

The New York Mets beat the Cincinnati Reds 3-2 this afternoon at Citi Field to snap their three-game losing streak and improved their record to 56-44.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first two innings and then broke through in the bottom of the third.

CF Tyrone Taylor led off with an infield hit and 2B Luisangel Acuna followed with a sacrifice bunt.

LF Brandon Nimmo came up next and delivered a RBI single.

After a scoreless bottom of the fourth, 3B Brett Baty singled to lead off the bottom of the fifth and then stole second.

Two batters later, Acuna came through with a RBI double to score Baty.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the next two innings until the bottom of the eighth after RF Juan Soto led off with a walk and two batters later, CF Jeff McNeil doubled to advance to Soto to third.

Catcher Luis Torrens came up next and hit a grounder to 2B Matt McClain with the infield in and then McClain was unable to get to field the ball quickly and Soto was running on contact from third which allowed him to score the game-winning run.

LHP David Peterson gave up an unearned run in the top of the first after Acuna made a throwing error, but was able to get out of trouble by inducing a ground-ball double play.

Peterson worked out of a based loaded jam with two outs by striking out McClain to end the inning.

Peterson was able to settle down after that and cruised the rest of the way retiring 12 of the last 13 hitters he faced.

His final line was six innings, four hits, one run (0 earned runs), 1 walk and four strikeouts.

He lowered his ERA to 2.90.

RHP Huasacr Brazoban followed with a scoreless top of the seventh.

RHP Reed Garettt retired the first two hitters he faced in the top of the eighth and then walked McClain and was taken out.

RHP Edwin Diaz came on for a 4-out save and walked SS Ella De La Cruz gave up an infield hit to DH Austin Hays to load the bases and then hit 1B Spencer Steer which brought in tying run.

Diaz came back to strike out catcher Tyler Stephenson to keep the game tied.

Diaz blew his second save of the season, but also picked up his fifth win.

RHP Ryne Stanek closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth to pick up his second save.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Monday, July 21 at home against the Los Angeles Angels at 7:10 p.m.

Mets Lose To Reds 5-2 After Struggling With Men On Base

The New York Mets lost to the Cincinnati Reds 5-2 this afternoon at Citi Field for their third consecutive loss and dropped their record to 55-44.

RHP Clay Holmes started out well with two scoreless innings, but then ran into trouble in the top of the third.

Holmes gave up a lead-off double to RF Jake Fraley and then hit 3B Noelvi Marte.

Holmes was then let down by his defense after catcher Luis Torrens made a throwing error on a pick-off which allowed Fraley to score.

Two batters later, Holmes gave up a RBI single to 2B Matt McClain and then got SS Ella De La Cruz to ground into a double play.

In the top of the fourth, Holmes gave up a lead-off walk to DH Austin Hays and three batters later, a RBI single to Fraley.

Holmes had a scoreless top of the fifth and then in the top of the sixth, gave up another lead-off walk to Hays and two batters later, gave up an infield hit to 1B Spencer Steer and was then taken out.

RHP Reed Garrett came in next and gave an RBI ground-out on a fielder's choice and then gave up a RBI double to Fraley.

LHP Brooks Raley followed in the top of the seventh in his season debut and had a fine outing with a 1-2-3 inning including two strikeouts.

RHP Ryne Stanek threw a scoreless top of the eighth.

RHP Chris Devenski threw a scoreless top of the ninth.

In the bottom of the first, LF Brandon Nimmo led off with a single and three batters later, 1B Pete Alonso singled.

DH Mark Vientos followed with a single and then CF Jeff McNeil walked to load the bases but 3B Ronny Mauricio grounded out to second to end the inning.

2B Brett Baty homered to lead off the bottom of the second, but then the next three hitters went down 1-2-3.

After a 1-2-3 bottom of the third, Baty and catcher Luis Torrens singled with two outs in the bottom of the fourth, but then Nimmo lined out to right to end the threat.

In the bottom of the fifth, RF Juan Soto singled with one out and stole second, but then Alonso grounded out to second and Vientos flew out to right.

In the bottom of the sixth, McNeil led off with a walk and then Baty and Torrens walked to load the bases with one out.

However, Nimmo struck out and Lindor grounded out to first to waste a great scoring opportunity.

In the bottom of the seventh, Soto, Alonso and Vientos all went down in order by strikeout and in the bottom of the eighth, Maurico grounded into a rally killing double play after McNeil led off and reached on an error by Marte.

In the bottom of the ninth, Torrens led off with a single and Nimmo followed with a walk.

However, Lindor then grounded into a fielder's choice and Soto struck out and nearing hitting a game-tying homer that just went foul and Alonso flew out to right field for the last out of the game.

The Met offense struggled all game with runners on base wasting numerous scoring opportunities including leaving the based loaded twice.

They went 1-10 with runners in scoring position leaving 11 runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Sunday, July 20 at home against the Reds at 1:40 p.m.

Mets Lose To Reds 8-4 After Bullpen Struggles

The New York Mets lost to the Cincinnati Reds 8-4 tonight at Citi Field for their second consecutive loss in the first game after the All-Star break and dropped their record to 55-43.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first after RF Juan Soto hit a solo homer.

In the bottom of the second, LF Brandon Nimmo led off with a walk and stole second and two batters later, 2B Jeff McNeil drove in McNeil with a RBI single.

The offense did not do much after that until the bottom of the ninth after Nimmo doubled with two outs and then 3B Ronny Mauricio reached on an error by RF Connor Joe which allowed Nimmo to score.

McNeil followed with a walk and then pinch-hitter Brett Baty reached on an infield hit.

Catcher Luis Torrens then drive in Mauricio.

SS Francisco Lindor came up next with the based loaded and two outs and a chance to tie the game, but flew out to second to end the game.

LHP Sean Manaea started out well with a dominating top of the first striking out the side and then cruised the next two innings.

Manaea gave up a solo homer to LF Austin Hays to lead off the top of the fourth and was taken out after the inning.

Manaea's final line was four innings, one hit, one run, two walks and six strikeouts.

LHP Alex Carillo came in next in the top of the fifth and after retiring the first two hitters, hit CF TJ Friedl and then gave up a two-run homer to 2B Matt McLain.

Carillo came back out for the top of the sixth and had more troubles after he gave up another homer to Hays to lead off an inning and after a walk and wild pitch, a two-run homer to DH Tyler Stephenson.

Carillo was taken out later in the inning and LHP Brandon Waddell had to come in to get the last two outs.

Waddell stayed in for the top of the seventh and gave up a lead-off double to McLain and a RBI single to the following hitter, SS Ella De La Cruz.

Waddel came back out for the top of the eighth and after retiring the first two hitters, hit Friedl, and walked McLain and De La Cruz to load the bases and then walked Hays to bring in a run.

Waddell stayed in for the top of the ninth and threw a scoreless inning.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Saturday, July 19 at home against the Reds at 4:10 p.m. Prior to the game, David Wright will have a ceremony for his number retirement.

Mets Lose To Royals 3-2 After Ninth Inning Rally Comes Up Short To Conclude First Half of Season

The New York Mets lost to the Kansas City Royals 3-2 this afternoon at Kaufman Stadium and took two out of three games in the series to finish up with a first half record of 55-42.

RHP Clay Holmes had a scoreless bottom of the first, but then ran into trouble in the bottom of the second.

Holmes gave up a lead-off double to 3B Maikel Garcia and then hit catcher Salvador Perez with a hit by pitch.

Two batters later, Holmes gave up a two-run double to LF John Rave.

Holmes was able to settle down after that with scoreless innings in the bottom of the third, fourth and fifth and was taken out after the inning.

His final line was five innings, five innings, two runs, one walk and two strikeouts.

LHP Sean Manaea made his season debut in the bottom of the sixth and had a fine first outing with a scoreless bottom of the sixth and then struck out the side in the bottom of the seventh.

Manaea had a scoreless bottom of the eighth and then in the bottom of the ninth, after a strikeout, gave up a one-out single and stolen base to RF Tyler Tolbert and then a walk-off single to pinch-hitter Nick Loftin.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first eight innings and then came alive in the top of the ninth.

3B Ronny Mauricio led off with a double and then 3B Jeff McNeil followed with a RBI triple.

Two batters later, pinch-hitter Jarred Young drove in McNeil with a sacrifice fly to tie the game.

The Mets are now off for the next four days for the All-Star break and return back to action in the second half of the season on Friday, July 18 at home against the Cincinnati Reds at 7:10 p.m.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first three innings until the top of the fourth after DH Juan Soto hit a two-run homer.

RF Jeff McNeil added a RBI single in the top of the ninth. 

RHP Frankie Montas allowed one run on four hits in five innings.

He gave up 0 walks and five strikeouts.

He picked up his second win.

RHP Reed Garrett threw a scoreless bottom of the sixth,

RHP Chris Devenski threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh.

RHP Edwin Diaz closed it out with two scoreless innings in the bottom of the eighth and ninth to pick up his 19th save.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Sunday, July 13 at the Royals at 2:10 p.m in their final game of the first half of the regular season.

Mets Rally To Beat Royals 8-3 With Seven Runs in Eighth and Ninth Inning

The New York Mets beat the Kansas City Royals 8-3 tonight at Kaufman Stadium to snap their two-game losing streak and improved their record to 54-41.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first two innings until the top of the third after catcher Luis Torrens led off with a single and then CF Tyrone Taylor followed with a sacrifice bunt. 

LF Brandon Nimmo then walked and SS Francisco Lindor followed with a single to load the bases.

Two batters later, 1B Pete Alonso drove in Torrens with a based loaded walk.

The offense did not do much for the next four innings, but then came alive in the top of the eighth.

Nimmo led off with a single and then Lindor and RF Juan Soto walked to load the bases.

Alonso followed with a strikeout, but then Vientos delivered one of the biggest hits of the season with a bases clearing double.

In the top of the ninth, Taylor led off with a double and Nimmo followed with a walk.

Lindor came up next and broke the game open with a three-run homer.

Soto followed with a solo homer.

RHP Kodai Senga made his return to the mound and worked his way out of runners on second and third with no outs by getting a strikeout, lineout and strikeout.

Senga worked out back-to-back walks in the bottom of the second and two singles in the bottom of the third, but managed to keep runs off the board.

He had a 1-2-3 bottom of the fourth and was then taken out.

His final line was four innings, four hits, two walks, no runs and four strikeouts.

He lowered his ERA to 1.39.

LHP Alex Castillo followed with a scoreless bottom of the fifth, and came back out for the bottom of the sixth and gave up game-tying double to 2B Nick Loftin.

RHP Huascar Brazoban followd in the bottom of the seventh and gave up a two-run homer to SS Bobby Witt Jr.

Brazoban picked up his fifth win of the season.

RHP Reed Garrett threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

RHP Chris Devenski closed it out with a scoreless bottom of the ninth.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Saturday, July 12 at the Royals at 4:10 p.m.

Mets Lose to Orioles 7-3 And Swept in Doubleheader

The New York Mets lost to the Baltimore Orioles 7-3 this afternoon at Camden Yards in the second game of a doubleheader to be swept in the doubleheader and lose two out of three games in the series to drop their record to 53-41.

LHP Brandon Waddell had a scoreless bottom of the first working out of a based loaded jam, but ran into trouble in the bottom of the second.

Waddell gave up back-to-back doubles to CF Cedric Mullins and catcher Alex Johnson.

Later in the inning, Waddell gave up a two-run homer to 2B Jordan Westburg.

Waddell came back out for the bottom of the third and had a 1-2-3 inning and was then taken out.

His final line was three innings, four hits, three runs, one walk and two strikeouts.

RHP Justin Hagenman came in next and had a scoreless bottom of the fourth, but gave up two runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Hagerman stayed in for the bottom of the sixth and was taken out after a lead-off double.

LHP Richard Lovelady came in next and gave up a RBI ground-out on a fielder's choice later in inning and was taken out in the inning.

RHP Rico Garcia followed with 2.2 scoreless innings.

LF Brandon Nimmo hit a lead-off single in the top of the first and then SS Francisco Lindor followed with a double.

RF Juan Soto drove in Nimmo with a RBI ground-out and 1B Pete Alonso drove in Lindor with a sacrifice fly.

In the top of the fourth, Soto led off with a walk and stole second and two batters later, CF Jeff McNeil walked.

Two batters later, 3B Brett Baty drove in Soto with tying run.

The Met offense was unable to score any more runs after that and struggled with men on base once again going 1-8 with runners in scoring postiion.

The New York Mets lost to the Baltimore Orioles 3-1 this afternoon at Camden Yards in the first game of a doubleheader and dropped their record to 53-40.

LHP David Peterson dominated through seven innings allowing four hits and no walks with six strikeouts.

Peterson stayed in to start off the bottom of the eighth and was taken out after he gave up a lead-off single to LF Colton Cowser and was then taken out.

RHP Ryne Stanek came in next and it all fell apart after he gave up a two-run homer to pinch-hitter Gunnar Henderson and then walked the next three hitters before allowing a sacrifice fly to LF Ramon Laureano.

Stanek came out after that.

RHP Adam Warren had to come in to get the last out in the inning.

The Met offense struggled all game with men on base going 1-11 with runners in scoring position.

They wasted scoring opportunities in the top of the first and third and wasted a lead-off double by 3B Mark Vientos in the top of the sixth.

The only run they scored came in the top of the fifth after 2B Brett Baty led off with a walk and stole second and then CF Tyrone Taylor drove him in with a RBI double.

The Mets next game is later on this afternoon, in Game 2 of the doubleheader at 5:05 p.m.

Mets Rally To Beat Orioles 7-6 in 10 Innings After Overcoming Four Run Deficit In One of the Best Wins of the Season

The New York Mets beat the Baltimore Orioles 7-6 tonight in 10 innings at Camden Yards and improved their record to 53-39.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first five innings against RHP Brandon Young, but then came alive in the top of the sixth.

3B Ronny Maurico led off with a homer and 2B Brett Baty followed with a double.

LF Brandon Nimmo then Baty with a RBI double.

In the top of the eighth, Nimmo led off with a single and SS Francisco Lindor followed with a two-run homer.

RF Juan Soto then singled and 1B Pete Alonso followed with a two-run home to tie the game.

In the top of the tenth, Soto led off and drove in Lindor with the game-winning RBI single after Lindor started the inning off second as the ghost runner.

RHP Clay Holmes started out well with two scoreless innings, but in the bottom of the third walked CF Cedric Mullins with one out and two batters later, gave up a RBI single to 2B Jackson Holliday.

Holmes had a 1-2-3 bottom of the fourth and a scoreless bottom of the fifth, but then unraveled in the bottom of the sixth.

He hit Holliday on the leg on an 0-2 pitch leading off the inning and then gave up back-to-back singles to load the bases.

Holmes then gave up a two-run double to 1B Ryan O'Hearn and a two-run single to RF Ramon Laureano and was taken out.

Holmes's final line was 5.0 innings, seven hits, five runs, one walk and five strikeouts.

LHP Richard Lovelady came in next and picked up two outs and was taken out with runners on first and third.

LHP Alex Castillo followed in his ML debut and threw one pitch and then catcher Luis Torrens threw out Laureano trying to get back to third to end the inning.

Castillo stayed in for the bottom of the seventh and gave up a solo homer to Holliday.

RHP Reed Garrett came in next in the bottom of the eighth and threw a scoreless inning.

RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the bottom of the ninth and had a 1-2-3 inning to pick up his fourth win.

Mets Lose to Yankees 6-4 After Late Rally Comes Up Short

The New York Mets lost to the New York Yankees 6-4 at Citi Field this afternoon to snap their four-game winning streak and dropped their record to 52-39.

RHP Chris Devenski got the start for the Mets as the "opener" out of the bullpen and did a fine job with tw scoreless innings.

Devenski gave up one hit and no walks with two strikeouts.

RHP Zach Pop made his Met debut in the top of the third and got hit early after he gave up a lead-off homer to catcher Austin Wells on the second pitch he threw.

Pop stayed in for the top of the fourth and had more troubles after he gave up a lead-off double to DH Giancarlo Stanton and then a single to LF Cody Bellinger.

Pop then gave up a RBI ground-out to SS Anthony Volpe and an infield hit to D.J. LeMahieu was then taken out.

LHP Brandon Waddell came in next and gave up a RBI ground-out to Wells and then picked up the last out in the top of the fourth,

Waddell stayed in for the top of the fifth and gave up a lead-off double to 1B Paul Goldschmidt and two batters later, a two-run homer to RF Aaron Judge.

Waddell stayed in for the top of the sixth and threw a scoreless inning and was taken out.

RHP Huascar Brazoban came in next in the top of the seventh and gave up a lead-off single to Goldschmidt and an infield hit to the following hitter CF Trent Grisham.

Brazoban then gave up a sacrifice fly to Judge and struck out Stanton, walked Bellinger and struck out Volpe to end the inning.

RHP Rico Garcia followed with two scoreless innings in the top of the eighth and ninth.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first four innings against LHP Max Fried, but came alive in the bottom of the fifth.

2B Jeff McNeil and catcher Hayden Sanger singled with one out and then DH Starling Marte singled to load the bases.

SS Francisco Lindor came up next and drove in McNeil and Senger for a two-run single, but then RF Juan Soto struck out and 1B Pete Alonso flew out to RF to end the threat.

In the bottom of the sixth, LF Brandon Nimmo led off with a hit by pitch and then pinch-hitters Ronny Mauricio and Brett Baty followed with singles to load the bases with no outs.

McNeil then hit a dribbler that reliever RHP Jonathan Loaisiga misplayed which allowed Nimmo to score and keep the bases loaded with one out.

However, Senger grounded into a double play to allow another run to score and then Marte lined out to Judge to end the inning.

In the bottom of the seventh, Lindor led off with a hit by pitch and then Soto hit a line drive to Bellinger who then made an outstanding diving catch to rob Soto of a double and threw Lindor trying to go back to first base.

In the bottom of the ninth, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza was thrown out arguing balls and strikes with home plate umpire John Bacon after catcher Luis Torrens struck out to lead off the inning and the Mets went down 1-2-3.

The Mets are off tomorrow and return back to action on Tuesday, July 8 at the Baltimore Orioles at 6:35 p.m.

Mets Rout Yankees 12-6 Powered By Nimmo Grand Slam And Two Homers From Alonso

The New York Mets beat the New York Yankees 12-6 this afternoon at Citi Field for their fourth consecutive win and second consecutive win in the Subway Series to improve their record to 52-38.

The Met offense got off to another fast start in the bottom of the first after DH Starling Marte led off with a double, SS Francisco Lindor followed with a walk and then RF Juan Soto hit a sacrifice bunt to catcher Austin Wells which allowed Marte and Lindor to advance to second and third.

1B Pete Alonso then walked to load the bases and LF Brandon Nimmo came through with a grand slam.

In the bottom of the second, CF Tyrone Taylor reached on an error by 3B Jazz Chisholm Jr and advanced to second.

Marte followed with a RBI single.

In the bottom of the fifth, Lindo walked with one out and stole second and two batters later, Alonso came through with a two-run homer to the opposite field.

In the bottom of the seventh, pinch-hitter Ronny Mauricio led off with a double and Lindor followed with a RBI single.

Soto followed with a walk and then Alonso came up and broke the game open with a towering three-run home to left field for his second homer of the game.

In the bottom of the eighth, Lindor doubled with one out and Soto followed with a RBI single.

RHP Frankie Montas gave up two solo homers to Chisholm Jr in the top of the second and Wells in the top of the third.

Montas gave up an infield hit and walk and a two-run double to 1B Cody Bellinger in the top of the sixth and was then taken out.

His final line was 5.2 innings, four runs, five hits, no walks and two strikeouts.

He picked up his first win.

LHP Richard Lovelady came in next and picked up the last out in the top of the sixth and stayed in for the top of the seventh and gave up a solo homer to SS Anthony Volpe.

RHP Chris Devenski had to come in and got the last out in the top of the seventh.

RHP Ryne Stanek followed in the top of the eighth and gave up a RBI double to DH Ben Rice.

RHP Edwin Diaz closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth.

Mets Beat Yankees 6-5 Behind McNeil Go-Ahead Homer in Seventh

The New York Mets beat the New York Yankees 6-5 this afternoon at Citi Field for their third consecutive win and improved their record to 51-38.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first after LF Brandon Nimmo led off with a double and two batters later, RF Juan Soto hit a game-tying two-run homer to the opposite field.

After a scoreless bottom of the second, Soto double with one out in the bottom of the third and 1B Pete Alonso followed with a RBI single.

In the bottom of the sixth, 3B Brett Baty hit a solo homer.

In the bottom of the seventh, 1B Pete Alonso walked with two outs and then 2B Jeff McNeil followed with a game-winning two-run homer.

RHP Justin Hageman made his first start for the Mets and got into immediate trouble in the top of the first after he gave up back-to-back homers to the first two hitters of the game LF Jason Dominguez and RF Aaron Judge.

Hageman settled down by retiring the next nine hitters in a row before allowing another solo homer this time to CF Cody Bellinger to lead off the top of the fourth.

Hageman was able to get out of the fourth with the game tied and gave up a one-out single in the top of the fifth and was then taken out.

RHP Adam Warren came in next and gave up a two-run homer to Dominguez.

Warren then worked around a single by Judge and a single by DH Giancarlo Stanton to keep it a two-run deficit.

Warren stayed in for the top of the sixth and threw a scoreless inning and got SS Anthony Volpe to ground into an inning ending double play.

RHP Huascar Brazoban followed with a scoreless top of the seventh with three strikeouts to pick up his fourth win.

RHP Reed Garett came on in the top of the eighth and threw a scoreless inning and came back out for the top of the ninth and closed it out with a 1-2-3 inning helped out by a stellar diving stop by McNeil to throw out 2B D.J. LeMahieu. Garrett picked up his third save.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Saturday, July 5 at home at Citi Field against the Yankees at 4:10 p.m.

Mets Beat Brewers 3-2 To Take Series With Outstanding Pitching

The New York Mets beat the Milwaukee Brewers 3-2 tonight at Citi Field for their second consecutive win to take two out of three games in the series and improved their record to 50-38.

After a scoreless bottom of the first, LF Brandon Nimmo drove in the first run of the game with a solo homer in the bottom of the second.

The Met offense did not do much against former Met LHP Jose Quintana until the bottom of the sixth after DH Starling Marte reached on an infield hit with one out and then SS Francisco Lindor followed with a single.

RF Juan Soto then drove in Marte with a RBI single for the go-ahead run.

1B Pete Alonso followed with a RBI double to score Lindor for a much needed insurance run.

LHP David Peterson cruised through the first three innings, but was let down by his defense in the top of the fourth.

2B Brett Baty dropped a line drive to put runners on first and second with one out and then 3B Mark Vientos drove in front of Lindor which caused Lindor to get one out instead of two.

Peterson gave up an infield hit to 3B Caleb Durbin which allowed the tying run to score.

In the top of the fifth, Peterson was able to work around a lead-off double after Alonso made a strong to throw out SS Junior Ortiz at home.

Peterson had a scoreless top of the sixth and retired the first two hitters he faced in the top of the seventh, but then gave up a solo homer to 2B Andrew Monasterio and an infield hit to RF Sal Frelick and was taken out,

Peterson's final line was 6.2 innings, five hits, two runs, (one earned run), three walks and four strikeouts.

He picked up his sixth win and lowered his ERA to 3.18.

 RHP Ryne Stanek followed and picked up the last out in the top of the seventh.

Stanek stayed in for the top of the eighth and had a dominating inning striking out the side.

RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the top of the ninth and after a strikeout, gave up a one-out single to pinch-hitter Christian Yelich.

Yelich tried to steal second and was originally ruled safe, but replay showed that catcher Luis Torrens throw and Lindor's tag beat Yelich to the bag for the second out of the inning,

Diaz then struck out pinch-hitter Brice Tarang to close it out for his 18th save of the season.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Friday, July 4 for the first game of the second Subway Series of the series against the Yankees at Citi Field at 3:10 p.m.

Mets Beat Brewers 7-3 in Second Game of Doubleheader Behind Nimmo and Lindor

The New York Mets beat the Milwaukee Brewers 7-3 tonight at Citi Field in the second game of a doubleheader to snap their four-game losing streak and improved their record to 49-38.

After a scoreless bottom of the first, 3B Brett Baty and SS Ronny Mauricio walked with two outs in the bottom of the second. 

Catcher Hayden Senger then hit a high chopper back to Brewers starter RHP Jacob Misiorowksi and then took a bad hop and never reached 2B Brice Torang to allow Senger to reach first for an infield hit and load the bases.

LF Brandon Nimmo came up next and delivered one of the biggest hits of the season with a grand slam to right field.

SS Francisco Lindor followed with a solo homer to give him and Nimmo back-to-back homers.

In the bottom of the second, Mauricio led off with another walk and Senger followed with a sacrifice fly.

Nimmo then grounded out to first which allowed Mauricio to advance to third and Lindor delivered once again with a RBI single.

In the bottom of the eighth, Senger walked with one out and was replaced by pinch-runner Travis Jankowski.

Two batters later, Lindor capped off his stellar night at the plate with a RBI double to score Jankowskis for his third RBI of the game.

RHP Huascar Brazoban got the start as an "opener" and threw a scoreless top of the first and then came out.

RHP Blaine Tidwell followed and did an outstanding job throwing scoreless innings in the top of the second, third, fourth and fifth.

Tidwell stayed in for the top of the sixth, but then gave up back-to-back homers to LF Christian Yelich and CF Jackson Chourio and two batters later, gave up a single to 1B Rhys Hoskins and was taken out.

RHP Dedniel Nunez came in next and allowed a single to 3B Anthony Seigler and a RBI groud-out to SS Junior Ortiz, but came back to strike out catcher Eric Haase to end the inning.

LHP Richard Lovelady followed with a scoreless top of the eighth. 

RHP Ryne Stanek picked up the first two outs in the top of the eighth and was then taken out with two runners on and two outs after he gave up a single and walk.

RHP Edwin Diaz came on and picked up the biggest out of the game after he struck out pinch-hitter Jake Bauers to end the inning.

Diaz stayed in for the top of the ninth and picked up two more strikeouts as part of a 1-2-3 inning to close it out and picked up his 17th save of the season.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Thursday, July 3 at home against the Brewers at 7:10 p.m.

The New York Mets lost to the Milwaukee Brewers 7-2 this afternoon at Citi Field in the first game of a doubleheader for their fourth consecutive loss and dropped their record to 48-38.

RHP Clay Holmes got off to a rocky start in the top of the first after he gave up a lead-off homer to RF Sal Frelick, but then settled down after that.

Holmes was able to make it to the top of sixth, but then walked DH Christian Yelich and retired CF Jackson Churino on a fly-out and was then taken out.

RHP Reed Garrett came in next and got into immediate trouble after he gave up a RBI double to 2B Brice Turang to tie the game and then gave up a single to LF Isaac Collins and walked 1B Jake Bauers to load the bases.

It all fell apart for Garrett after he gave up a grand slam to the following hitter SS Joey Ortiz and then Garrett was taken out after the inning.

LHP Brandon Waddell came in next in the top of the seventh and threw a scoreless inning, but then gave up a lead-off homer to LF Isaac Collins in the top of the eighth. 

Waddell stayed in for the top of the ninth and threw a scoreless inning.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first two innings until the bottom of the third after CF Jeff McNeil led off with a hit by pitch and then catcher Luis Torrens followed with a single to advance McNeil to third.

2B Brett Baty drove in McNeil with a sacrifice fly.

In the bottom of the fourth, RF Juan Soto led off with a walk and stole second and then 1B Pete Alonso drove in Soto with a RBI single.

The offense was unable to do much after that managing only two hits.

The Mets have another game tonight at home against the Brewers at 7:10 p.m.

 Tonight's Mets-Brewers game has been postponed due to rain.

There will be a doubleheader tomorrow Wednesday, July 2.

It is a split doubleheader with the first game beginning at 1:10 p.m. and the second game starting at the regular scheduled 7:10 time.
