Mets Lose to Braves 3-0 In Game 2 of Doubleheader To Close Out Regular Season

The New York Mets lost to the Atlanta Braves 3-0 this afternoon at SunTruist Park in the second game of a doubleheader in their final game of the regular season to finish up with a record of 89-73.

LHP Joey Lucchesi had a strong start allowing one run on three hits in six innings.

He gave up four walks with five strikeouts.

RHP Huascar Brazoban came on in the bottom of the seventh and allowed a two-run single to DH Marcell Ozuna.

RHP Adam Ottavino threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

The Met offense was held in check due to most of their starters sitting and had only three hits all game.

The Mets now look ahead to their National League Wild Card series tomorrow night, Tuesday, October 1 at the Milwaukee Brewers at 5:32 p.m.

Mets Beat Braves 8-7 To Clinch Playoff Spot Powered By Lindor Homer In Ninth Inning

The New York Mets beat the Atlanta Braves 8-7 this afternoon at SunTruist Park in the first game of a doubleheader to clinch a playoff spot and improved their record to 89-72.

The Met offense was held scoreless against RHP Spencer Schwellenbach for the first seven innings, but then came alive in the top of the eighth.

RF Tyrone Taylor led off with a double and catcher Francisco Alvarez followed with a RBI double.

Pinch-hitter Starling Marte then singled to advance Alvarez to third and SS Francisco Lindor followed with a RBI single.

2B Jose Iglesias then tied the game with a RBI single and stole second.

3B Mark Vientos followed with a sacrifice fly and LF Brandon Nimmo followed with a two-run homer.

In the top of the ninth, Marte singled with one out and then Lindor delivered the game-winning two-run homer.

RHP Tylor Megill started out well with two scoreless innings and then gave up a two-run homer to 2B Ozzie Albies in the bottom of the third.

Megill then had scoreless innings in the bottom of the fourth and fifth and gave up a solo homer to LF Ramon Laureano in the bottom of the sixth and was taken out with two outs in the bottom of the sixth.

His final line was 5.2 innings, eight hits, three runs, two walks and eight strikeouts.

RHP Huascar Brazoban came in next and got the last out in the bottom of the sixth.

RHP Adam Ottavino threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh.

RHP Phil Maton came on in the bottom of the eighth and gave up a hit by pitch and single and retired one out and was then taken out.

RHP Edwin Diaz came on and after retiring Gio Urshela, gave up an infield hit to former Met Jared Kelic and then walked CF Michael Harris.

Diaz then gave up a based clearing double to Albies.

Diaz came back out for the bottom of the ninth and threw a scoreless bottom of the ninth to pick up his sixth win.

The Mets next game is a half hour after the first game.

Mets Beat Brewers 5-0 Behind Stellar Start From Peterson To Stay Alive in Wild Card Race

The New York Mets beat the Milwaukee Brewers 5-0 this afternoon at Great American Family Field to snap their three-game losing streak and improved their record to 88-72.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first after SS Francisco Lindor led off with a walk and then stole second.

Two batters later, LF Brandon Nimmo drove in Lindor with a RBI single.

In the top of the fourth, J.D. Martinez led off with a double to break his 0-35 slump and then RF Starling Marte hit a sacrifice bunt back to the pitcher to allow Martinez to advance to third.

Catcher Francisco Alvarez followed with a RBI single to bring in Martinez.

CF Tyrone Taylor then singled and Lindor followed with a RBI single.

In the top of the fifth, 3B Mark Vientos led off with a single and 1B Pete Alonso followed with a hit by pitch.

Vientos and Alonso then advanced to second and third on a wild pitch by LHP Colin Rea,

Two batters later, Marte was intentionally walked to load the bases and then Alvarez came up and drove in his second run of the game with a RBI single.

In the top of the sixth, Lindor capped off his stellar day at the plate with a solo homer for his second RBI of the game,

LHP David Peterson had the best start in his Met career with seven scoreless innings,

He gave up one hit with three walks and eight strikeouts.

Peterson ended up his season on a high note by picking up his 10th win and lowering his ERA to 2.90.

He has the fifth-lowest ERA among all MLB pitchers, though he didn't have enough innings pitched to qualify for official stats.

Peterson also allowed two or fewer runs in 17 of his 21 starts.

RHP Phil Maton followed with a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

RHP Edwin Diaz closed it out with a scoreless bottom of the ninth.

The Mets now look ahead to a make-up doubleheader tomorrow Monday, September 30 at the Atlanta Braves with the first game beginning at 1:10 p.m.

Mets Shutout By Brewers 6-0 As Offense Continues To Struggle

The New York Mets lost to the Milwaukee Brewers 6-0 tonight at Great American Field for their third consecutive loss and dropped their record to 87-72.

LHP Jose Quintana started out well with three scoreless innings, but ran into trouble in the bottom of the fourth.

Quintana gave up a couple of walks to load the bases and then gave up a two-run double to 3B Joey Ortiz.

Quintana picked one out in the bottom of the fifth and was then taken out.

His final line was 4.1 innings, five hits, two runs, two walks and nine strikeouts.

RHP Phil Maton followed with 1.2 scoreless innings.

RHP Ryne Stanek then threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh.

RHP Reed Garrett came on in the bottom of the eighth and gave up a RBI single to SS Willy Adames and then walked Ortiz with the based loaded to bring in another run and was then taken out.

LHP Danny Young came in next and gave up a two-run single to 2B Andruw Monasterio.

The Met offense was held in check all night managing only two hits.

They went 0-6 with runners in scoring position and left four runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Sunday, September 29 at the Brewers at 3:10 p.m.

Mets Lose To Brewers 8-4 After Manaea Struggles

The New York Mets lost to the Milwaukee Brewers 8-4 tonight at Great American Family Field for their second consecutive loss and dropped their record to 87-71.

LHP Sean Manaea got off to a tough start in the bottom of the first walking two hitters and then giving up a grand slam to 1B Rhys Hoskins.

Manaea gave up another run in the bottom of the second on a RBI double by 2B Brice Turang.

Manaea had a scoreless bottom of the third and then gave up an RBI single to LF Jackson Churino in the bottom of the fourth and was taken out with two outs in the inning.

His final line was 3.2 innings, seven hits, six runs, five earned runs, two walks and one strikeout.

RHP Jose Butto followed with 1.1 scoreless innings.

LHP Danny Young came in next and got the last two outs in the bottom of the fifth.

RHP Adam Ottavino followed with 1.1 scoreless innings.

LHP Alex Young gave up a solo homer to DH Gary Sanchez in the bottom of the eighth.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first two innings until 3B Mark Vientos hit a two-run homer in the top of the third.

The offense did not do much for the next four innings and tried to rally in the top of the eighth after pinch-hitter Harrison Bader hit a sacrifice fly and then 1B Pete Alonso reached on an error which brought home a run.

Catcher Luis Torrens came up as the tying run after Francisco Alvarez left the game with back spasms, but flew out to right field to end the threat.

The offense was unable to come up with any timely hits going 0-6 with runners in scoring position leaving eight runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Saturday, September 28 at the Brewers at 7:15 p.m.

 Tonight and tomorrow's Mets-Braves games at Truist Park in Atlanta, Georgia due to the inclement weather from Hurricane Helene.

There is rain in the forecast in Atlanta from Wednesday afternoon to Friday morning.

The games will be made up on Monday, September 30 in Atlanta as a part of a traditional doubleheader beginning at 1:10 p.m (ET).

Mets Lose To The Braves 5-1 After Severino and Offense Struggle

The New York Mets lost to the Atlanta Braves 5-1 tonight at Truist Park to snap their two-game winning streak and dropped their record to 87-70.

RHP Luis Severino started out well with two scoreless innings, but then ran into trouble in the bottom of the third.

Severino gave up a lead-off infield hit to SS Orlando Arcia who reached second after Severino made a throwing error partially caused by catcher Francisco Alvarez bumping into him.

Severino then gave up a RBI double to the following hitter CF Michael Harris II.

Three batters later, Severino gave up a RBI single to LF Ramon Laureano.

In the bottom of the fourth, Severino gave up a solo homer to Harris II and was taken out after the inning.

His final line was four innings, seven hits, four runs, one walk and five strikeouts.

RHP Ryne Stanek came in next in the bottom of the fifth and gave up a solo homer to DH Marcell Ozuna.

RHP Huascar Brazoban followed with a scoreless bottom of the sixth..

RHP Adam Ottavino threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh.

LHP Danny Young threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

The Met offense was dominated once again by rookie RHP Spencer Schwellenbach and managed only three hits against him and four for the entire game.

3B Mark Vientos drove in the lone run of the game with a solo homer in the seventh.

Mets Beat Phillies 2-1 To Take Series Behind Nimmo and Bullpen

The New York Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies 2-1 tonight at Citi Field to take three out of four games in the series and improved their record to 87-69.

After a scoreless bottom of the first, 3B Mark Vientos doubled with two outs in the bottom of the second after former Met RHP Zack Wheeler and then CF Tyrone Taylor followed by driving in Vientos with a RBI single.

The Met offense was held scoreless until the bottom of the sixth after LF Brandon Nimmo hit the game-winning solo homer.

RHP Tylor Megill gave up a RBI single to 3B Alec Bohm in the top of the first with two outs, but then retired catcher J.T. Realmuto on a fly-out to CF to end the threat.

Megill was able to settle down after that with scoreless innings in the top of the second, third and fourth and was taken out after that with 83 pitches.

His final line was four innings, one run, two walks and six strikeouts.

RHP Phil Maton followed with two 1-2-3 innings in the top of the fifth and sixth.

Maton picked up his third win and lowered his ERA to 3.54.

RHP Jose Butto came in next and threw a 1-2-3 top of the seventh.

RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the top of the eighth and worked around a one-out single to SS Trea Turner and then came back to strike out 1B Bryce Harper and retire Bohm on a ground-out to third.

In the top of the ninth, Diaz walked 2B Bryson Stott and CF Brandon Marsh and then came back to strike out LF Kody Clemens to pick up his 20th save of the season.

The Mets are off tomorrow and return back to action on Tuesday, September 24  for the first game of a three-game series at the Atlanta Braves at 7:20 p.m.

Mets Beat Phillies 6-3 Powered By Alvarez and Acuna

The New York Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies 6-3 this afternoon at Citi Field in front of a sell-out crowd of 44,152 fans and improved their record to 86-69.

After a scoreless bottom of the first, catcher Francisco Alvarez hit a solo homer with one out in the bottom of the second and two batters later, SS Luisangel Acuna hit a solo homer for the third homer in his last four games.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the next four innings, but then came alive in the bottom of the seventh.

DH Starling Marte led off with a walk and two batters later, 1B Pete Alonso was hit by a pitch.

LF Brandon Nimmo then followed with the go-ahead RBI single and stole second.

Two batters later, Alvarez broke the game open with a two-run double.

In the bottom of the eighth, Acuna led off with a walk and two batters later, Marte walked.

Two batters later, 1B Pete Alonso drove in 2B Jose Iglesias with a RBI single.

LHP Sean Manaea got off to a tough start in the top of the first after he gave up a lead-off homer to Kyle Schwarber but then settled down after that.

Manaea retired the next 12 hitters he faced until he allowed a solo homer to RF Nick Castellanos to lead-off the top of the fifth.

Manaea was able to settle down after that once again retiring nine consecutive hitters. 

He gave up a lead-off single to catcher J.T. Realmuto to start the top of the eighth and was then taken out.

His final line was seven innings, three hits, three runs, 0 walks and six strikeouts.

Manaea had excellent command of his fastball and slider.

He picked up his 12th win of the season.

RHP Reed Garrett came in next in the top of the eighth and was not able to get pinch-hitter Cal Stevenson to ground into a 3-6-3 double play which allowed a run to score and was then taken out with two outs in the inning.

RHP Edwin Diaz came on and struck out Schwarber to end the inning.

Diaz then retired SS Trea Turner, 1B Bryce Harper and 3B Alec Bohm in a 1-2-3 top of the ninth to pick up his 19th save.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Sunday, September 22 at home against the Phillies on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball at 7:15 p.m.

Mets Crushed By Phillies 12-2 After Peterson and Bullpen Struggle

The New York Mets lost to the Philadelphia Phillies 12-2 tonight at Citi Field to snap their four-game losing streak and dropped their record to 85-69.

LHP David Peterson got off to a strong start in the top of the first with two strikeouts, but then ran into the trouble in the top of the second.

Peterson gave up back-to-back singles and then 1B Pete Alonso dropped a pop-up to load the bases.

Peterson then gave up a  sac fly to 2B Edmundo Sosa.

In the top of the third, Peterson gave up a RBI double to RF Nick Castellanos.

In the top of the fourth, Peterson gave up a RBI ground-rule double to CF Johan Rojas and was then taken out.

RHP Adam Ottavino cam on and gave up a RBI single to SS Trea Turner and two batters later, a three-run homer to 3B Alec Bohm.

RHP Huascar Brazoban followed and had a scoreless top of the fifth and then in the top of the sixth, gave up a RBI single to Bohm and a RBI ground-out to Castellanos.

LHP Danny Young came in next and had a scoreless top of the seventh and then gave up a two-run homer to catcher J.T. Realmuto in the top of the eighth.

Infielder Eddy Alvarez threw a scoreless top of the ninth.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first after 2B Jose Iglesias led off with a homer and then RF Starling Marte followed with a infield hit.

3B Mark Vientos then walked to load the bases and after 1B Pete Alonso struck out, LF Brandon Nimmo then drove in a run on a RBI ground-out.

The Met offense was unable to score any more runs after that and went 0-4 with runners in scoring position leaving seven runners on base.

Mets Beat Phillies 10-6 With Stellar Offense

The New York Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies 10-6 tonight at Citi Field for their fourth consecutive win and improved their record to 85-68.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first against former Met RHP Taijuan Walker after 3B Mark Vientos and 1B Pete Alonso hit back-to-back homers.

After a scoreless bottom of the second, 2B Jose Iglesias singled to lead off the bottom of the third and then LF Brandon Nimmo followed with a two-run homer.

In the bottom of the fourth, D.H. J.D. Martinez led off with a hit by pitch and then CF Tyrone Taylor followed with a walk.

Catcher Francisco Alvarez then broke the game open with a towering three-run homer to left field that went 421 feet.

Two batters later, Iglesias reached on an infield hit and then Nimmo followed with a RBI double.

Vientos then hit a RBI single.

In the bottom of the seventh, Taylor led off with a walk and two batters later, SS Luisangel Acuna hit a RBI triple for the first triple of his career.

This is the first time in Mets history that they have scored 10 runs in three consecutive games.

RHP Luis Severino started out with two scoreless innings and then gave up a two-run homer to SS Trea Turner in the top of the third.

Severino gave up a RBI single to CF Brandon Marsh in the top of the fourth and then settled down after that.

Severino had scoreless innings in the top of the fifth and sixth and was taken out after the inning.

His final line was six innings, five hits, three runs, two walks and seven strikeouts.

He picked up his 11th win.

LHP Danny Young followed in the top of the seventh and was charged with three runs and picked up one out.

RHP Reed Garrett came in next and allowed three inherited runs on a RBI ground-out by DH Kyle Schwarber and then a two-run double to 1B Bryce Harper before getting out of the inning.

RHP Ryne Stanek followed in the top of the eighth and threw a scoreless inning.

RHP Edwin Diaz closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth.

The New York Mets beat the Washington Nationals 9-0 tonight at Citi Field for their third consecutive win to sweep their three-game series and improved their record to 84-68.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first three innings, and then erupted in the bottom of the fourth for nine runs.

LF Brandon Nimmo led off with a walk and then 1B Pete Alonso followed with a single.

RF Tyrone Taylor followed a RBI double and 3B Mark Vientos then hit a two-run single.

Two batters later, CF Harrison Bader walked and SS Luisangel Acuna followed with a RBI single.

2B Jose Iglesias then singled to load the bases and DH Starling Marte followed with a two-run single.

Nimmo came up next and capped off the scoring in the inning by breaking the game open with a three-run homer.

The offene did not score for the next three innings until the bottom of the eighth after Acuna hit a solo homer for his second career home and second in the last two games.

LHP Jose Quintana had another outstanding start with seven scoreless innings.

Mets Rout Nationals 10-1 Powered By Three Homers

The New York Mets beat the Washington Nationals 10-1 tonight at Citi Field for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 83-68.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first two innings and then broke through for four runs in the bottom of the third.

CF Harrison Bader led off with a walk and then SS Luisangel Acuna followed with a RBI double.

2B Jose Iglesias then reached on an infield hit and RF Starling Marte followed with a walk.

1B Pete Alonso followed by reaching on an infield single to score Acuna and Iglesias and then 3B Mark Vientos followed with a sacrifice fly.

In the bottom of the fourth, catcher Francisco Alvarez led off with his ninth homer of the season and third in his last five starts.

In the bottom of the fifth, Alonso led off with a double and two batters later, LF Tyrone Taylor drove him in with a RBI double.

In the bottom of the sixth, Acuna and Iglesias singled with one out and two batters later, Alonso broke the game open with a three-run homer for his third, fourth and fifth RBI of the game.

In the bottom of the eighth, Acuna capped off his stellar night at the plate with a solo homer for the first homer of his career.

He went 3-4 on the night with a single, double and homer with two RBI and three runs scored.

RHP Tylor Megill had a solid start allowing one unearned run on two hits in four innings retiring the last 10 hitters he faced.

Megill gave up two walks with four strikeouts.

He picked up his fourth win and lowered his ERA to 4.08.

RHP Adam Ottavino followed with a scoreless top of the seventh.

RHP Huascar Brazoban came in next and threw a scoreless top of the eighth.

LHP Alex Young closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth.

Mets Beat Nationals 2-1 in 10 Innings on Marte Walk-Off Hit

The New York Mets beat the Washington Nationals 2-1 in 10 innings tonight at Citi Field to snap their two-game losing streak and improved their record to 82-68.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first seven innings, but then came alive in the bottom of the eighth.

RF Tyrone Taylor led off with a double and then cather Francisco Alvarez grounded out to third which allowed Taylor to advance to third.

Pinch-hitter Starling Marte then grounded out to shortstop and then SS Jose Iglesias reached on an infield hit to bring in Taylor as the tying run.

In the bottom of the tenth, Taylor led off with the intentional walk and then Alvarez flew out to right which allowed ghost-runner Harrison Bader to advance to third.

Marte came up next and drove in Bader on a walk-off single.

LHP Sean Manaea had another outstanding start allowing one run on four hits in seven innings.

He gave up one walk with six strikeouts.

Manaea lowered his ERA to 3.26.

RHP Jose Butto followed with a dominating top of the eighth striking out the side.

RHP Edwin Diaz threw a scoreless top of the ninth.

RHP Reed Garrett threw a scoreless top of the tenth and picked up his eighth win.

Mets Lose to Phillies 2-1 After Offense Struggles And Diaz Allows Ninth Inning Run

The New York Mets lost to the Philadelphia Phillies 2-1 this afternoon at Citizens Bank Park lose two out of three games in the series and dropped their record to 81-68.

LHP David Peterson had another strong start with seven scoreless innings before allowing runs on back-to-back doubles by LF Weston Wilson and 2B Buddy Kennedy and was then taken out.

His final line was 7.2 innings, four hits, one run, one walk and six strikeouts.

Peterson bounced back from his last rough start against the Blue Jays and lowered his ERA to 2.85.

RHP Phil Maton had to come in to get the last out in the bottom of the eighth.

RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the bottom of the ninth and gave up a lead-off single to RF Nick Castellanos who then stole second.

Two batters later, Diaz gave up a walk-off single to catcher J.T. Realmuto on a 0-2 fastball at the top of the strike zone.

The Met offense did very little all game outside of a solo homer by RF Tyrone Taylor in the top of the eighth.

They managed just seven hits and went 1-3 with runners in scoring position leaving six runners on base.

Injury News:

SS Francisco Lindor left the game in the bottom of the first due to his back injury from Friday night's game.

Mets Lose To Phillies 6-4 After Severino and Bullpen Blow Four Run Lead

The New York Mets lost to the Philadelphia Phillies 6-4 this afternoon at Citizens Bank Park to snap their two-game winning streak and dropped their record to 81-67.

RHP Luis Severino started out well with three scoreless innings and then gave up a solo homer to 1B Bryce Harper in the bottom of the fourth.

Severino had a scoreless bottom of the fifth and then in the bottom of the sixth, with two outs, walked SS Trea Turner and then gave up another homer to Harper, this time a two-run shot and was taken out after the inning.

His final line was six innings, three hits, one walk and five strikeouts.

LHP Danny Young came in next in the bottom of the seventh and allowed his first two hitters to reach  base before and came back out after a sacrifice bunt.

RHP Reed Garrett came in next and struck out 3B Weston Wilson for the second out, but then gave up a two-run double to CF Cal Stevenson.

RHP Ryne Stanek followed in the bottom of the eighth and gave up a RBI double to catcher J.T. Realmuto.

The Met offense got on the board immediately in the top of the first after 2B Jose Iglesias led off with a single and then later in the inning, 1B Pete Alonso and D.H. J.D. Martinez walked to load the bases.

RF Starling Marte then drove in a run with a walk.

In the top of the third, 3B Mark Vientos led off with a double and LF Brandon Nimmo followed with a single.

Vientos then scored on a throwing error by 3B Kody Clemens.

Marte followed with a two-run triple, but catcher Francisco Alvarez struck out and CF Harrison Bader flew out to end the inning.

The offense did not score any more runs after that and Martinez was robbed of a game-tying homer in the top of the eighth on an outstanding catch by Stevenson.

They went 2-9 with runners in scoring position leaving eight runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Sunday, September 15 at the Phillies at 1:35 p.m.

The New York Mets are calling up prospect infield Luisangel Acuna from Triple-A Syracuse.

Acuna was signed by the Texas Rangers as an International Free Agent and then traded to the Mets for Max Scherzer in last year's trading deadline.

He has hit .258 with seven homers, 50 RBI's and 40 stolen bases in Triple-A this year.

Acuna will bring depth on the infield and provide much needed speed on the bases.

The New York Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies 11-3 tonight at Citizens Bank Park for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 81-66.

The Mets offense was held hitless for the first four innings against RHP Aaron Nola and then alive in the top of the fifth.

2B Jose Iglesias led off with a single and then RF Tyrone Taylor followed with a single.

Catcher Francisco Alvarez then broke the scoreless tie with a towering three-run homer.

Two batters later, SS Francisco Lindor singled and then 3B Mark Vientos followed with a single.

LF Brandon Nimmo came up next and broke the open with a three-run homer.

In the top of the sixth, CF Harrison Bader doubled with two outs and then Lindor followed with a RBI single.

In the top of the eighth, D.H. Jesse Winker led off with a single and three batters later, Alvarez singled.

Bader came up next and blasted a three-run homer.

In the top of the ninth, 1B Pete Alonso capped off the scoring with a solo homer.

LHP Jose Quintana had an outstanding start with seven scoreless innings.

He gave up three hits with no walks and four strikeouts.

Quintana had all his pitches working and mixed in his fastball, curveball, and change-up well.

He picked up his ninth win and lowered his ERA to 3.91.

RHP Phil Maton followed with a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

LHP Alex Young gave up a three-run homer to RF Brandon Marsh in the bottom of the ninth, but was able to get the last three outs.

Mets Rally To Beat Blue Jays 6-2 With Six-Run Ninth Inning

The New York Mets beat the Toronto Blue Jays 6-2 this afternoon at the Rogers Centre to take two out of three games in the series and improved their record to 80-66.

The Met offense was no-hit by RHP Bowden Francis for the first eight innings, but then came alive in the top of the ninth.

SS Francisco Lindor showed why he's one of the best players in the National League after he lead off with the game-tying homer and then and 2B Jose Iglesias followed with an infield hit.

3B Mark Vientos than walked and LF Brandon Nimmo also walked to load the bases.

1B Pete Alonso then drove in the game-winning run with a sacrifice fly and D.H. J.D. Martinez walked.

RF Starling Marte followed with a sacrifice fly and then catcher Francisco Alvarez broke the game open with a towering 432 foot three-run homer to center field.

LHP Sean Manaea continued his stellar run on the mound allowing one run on three hits in 6.2 innings.

He gave up four walks with eight strikeouts and lowered his ERA to 3.35.

RHP Reed Garrett followed with a scoreless inning.

LHP Danny Young got the last out in the bottom of the eighth and picked up his fourth win.

RHP Ryne Stanek came on in the bottom of the ninth and picked up the first two outs and gave up a RBI single to pinch-hitter Addison Barger and was then taken out.

RHP Edwin Diaz had to come in and picked up the last out of the game to earn his 18th save of the season.

The Mets are off tomorrow and return back to action on Friday, September 13 at the Philadelphia Phillies at 6:40 p.m.

Mets Lose To Blue Jays 6-2 After Peterson and Offense Struggle

The New York Mets lost to the Toronto Blue Jays 6-2 tonight at the Rogers Centre and dropped their record to 79-66.

LHP David Peterson had a scoreless bottom of the first, but then in the bottom of the second he gave up an unearned run after 3B Mark Vientos made an error and then later in the inning, allowed a RBI single to SS Leo Jimenez.

It all felt apart for Peterson in the bottom of the third after he allowed a RBI single to catcher Alexandro Kirk, two batters later a RBI triple to LF Davis Schneider.

Two batters later, Peterson gave up a RBI single to LF Joey Loperfido.

Peterson had a scoreless bottom of the fourth and was taken out with one out in the bottom of the fifth.

His final line was 4.1 innings, eight hits, five runs, (four earned), two walks and two strikeouts.

RHP Huascar Brazoban came in next and picked up the last two outs in the bottom of the fifth.

Brazoban stayed in for the bottom of the sixth and threw a scoreless inning.

He came back out for the bottom of the seventh and gave up a one-out triple to 3B Ernie Clement and was taken out.

LHP Danny Young followed and gave up a RBI double to DH Spencer Horwitz before getting out of the inning.

RHP Adam Ottavino threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

The Met offense got on the board in the top of the first after SS Francisco Lindor led off with a single and then LF Jesse Winker followed with a single.

Three batters later, CF Brandon Nimmo drove in Lindor with a RBI single.

The offense did not do much after that until the top of the seventh after pinch-hitter Jose Iglesias led off with a double and two batters later, pinch-hitter Tyrone Taylor walked.

Iglesias then scored on a passed ball.

The New York Mets beat the Toronto Blue Jays 3-2 tonight at the Rogers Centre and improved their record to 79-65.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the three innings until the top of the fourth after 1B Pete Alonso walked with one out, 2B Jose Iglesias followed with a single and then 3B J.D. Martinez drove in Alonso with a RBI single.

The offense did not do much for the next three innings until the top of the eighth after pinch-hitter Jesse Winker led off with a walk and then catcher Francisco Alvarez followed by reaching on an infield hit and pinch-runner Tyrone Taylor reached third on an error.

SS Francisco Lindor then walked to load the bases and Taylor scored on a wild pitch to tie the game.

Alvarez then scored the go-ahead run on a passed ball.

RHP Tylor Megill had an outstanding start with six scoreless innings.

Megill gave up one hit with two walks and nine strikeouts to lower his ERA to 4.48.

LHP Danny Young came in next in the bottom of the seventh and gave up a hit and walk with one out and was then taken out.

RHP Jose Butto followed and gave up a single to pinch-hitter Ernie Clement to load the bases and then hit SS Leo Jimenez which tied the game.

Butto then gave up a sacrifice fly to RF George Springer, but was able to limit the damage and keep it a 2-1 deficit.

Ryen Stanek came on in the bottom of the eighth and had a dominating inning striking out the side to pick up his seventh win.

RHP Edwin Diaz appeared in the bottom of the ninth and retired his first two hitters and after allowing an infield hit to Clement, he came back to retire Jimenez on a deep fly to right to pick up his 17th save.

The New York Mets lost to the Cincinnati Reds 3-1 at Citi Field this afternoon to snap their nine-game winning streak and dropped their record to 78-65.

RHP Luis Severino cruised through the first few innings and did not allow a hit until the top of the fifth on a double by LF Jake Fraley.

Severino was able to get out of the inning and had a scoreless top of the sixth, but then ran into trouble in the top of the seventh.

He gave up a lead-off infield hit to 1B Ty France who then stole second and later in the inning, a RBI single to 3B Noel Marte and was then taken out.

His final line was 6.2 innings, five hits, one run, two walks and eight strikeouts.

RHP Reed Garrett followed with 1.1 scoreless innings.

RHP Phil Maton came in the top of the ninth and got into immediate trouble after he hit 2B Spencer Steer and then gave up an infield hit to France.

Two batters later, Maton gave up a two-run double to DH Santiago Espinal.

The Met offense did not do much outside of the bottom of the sixth when 1B Pete Alonso walked with one out, two batters later 2B Jose Iglesias reached on an infield hit and then RF Starling Marte followed with a RBI single.

The New York Mets beat the Cincinnati Reds 4-0 this afternoon at Citi Field for their ninth consecutive win and improved their record to 78-64.

The Met offense was held scoreless with one hit for the first five innings against reliever RHP Sam Moll, but then came alive in the bottom of the sixth.

CF Harrison Bader led off with a homer and then SS Francisco Lindor followed with a walk.

LF Brandon Nimmo was then hit by a pitch and two batters later, 1B Pete Alonso drove in a with a RBI single.

Two batters later, D.H. J.D, Martinez broke the game open with a two-run double.

LHP Jose Quintana had an outstanding start with 6.2 scoreless innings allowing five hits and two walks with six strikeouts.

Quintana had fine command of all his pitches and mixed up his fastball, curveball and change-up to keep hitters off balanced.

He was able to get ahead of hitters and threw 60 strikes out of his 100 total pitches.

Quintana picked up his eighth win and lowered his ERA to 4.09.

RHP Adam Ottavino came in next and picked up the last out in the top of the seventh.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first after SS Francisco Lindor led off with a single and two batters later, 3B Mark Vientos hit a two-run homer.

The offense was held scoreless for the next three innings until the bottom of the sixth after 1B Pete Alonso doubled with two outs and then pinch-hitter Jose Iglesias followed with a RBI single.

D.H. J.D. Martinez then hit a RBI single.

In the bottom of the tenth, Vientos led off the bottom of the ninth and capped off his night with a two-run walk-off homer for his 24th homer of the season.

LHP Sean Manaea started out well with three scoreless innings and then gave up a two-run to SS Ella De La Cruz in the top of the fourth.

Manaea had scoreless innings in the top of the fifth and sixth and then gave up another two-run homer this time to CF T.J. Friedl in the top of the seventh and was taken out with two outs in the seventh.

Mets Sweep Red Sox 8-3 Behind Winker and Bullpen

The New York Mets beat the Boston Red Sox 8-3 tonight at Citi Field for their seventh consecutive win and improved their record to 76-64.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first after SS Francisco Lindor led off with a single and then LF Brandon Nimmo followed with a walk.

3B Mark Vientos then singled to load the bases and two batters later, DH Jesse Winker continued his clutch hitting with a grand slam.

The offense did not do much for the next six innings, but then came through in the bottom of the eighth with much needed insurance runs.

Nimmo led off with another walk and Vientos followed with another single.

Two batters later, Winker walked to load the bases and then RF Tyrone Taylor drove in a run with a walk.

2B Jeff McNeil then drew another based loaded walk and catcher Francisco Alvarez drew a based a loaded walk of his own.

CF Harrison Bader followed by driving in a run with a sacrifice fly.

RHP Tylor Megill started out well with two scoreless innings and then ran into trouble in the top of the third after he gave up a RBI double to CF Jarren Duran and then a sacrifice fly to 3B Rafael Devers.

Megill allowed a sacrifice fly to RF Wilyer Abreu but did not allow any more runs in the inning.

Megill had a scoreless top of the fourth and was taken out after the inning.

His final line was four innings, five hits, three runs, one walk and three strikeouts.

LHP Alex Young followed with a scoreless top of the fifth with an inning ending double play.

RHP Huascar Brazoban came in next and threw 1.1 scoreless innings and was able to get a double play to end the inning.

LHP Danny Young appeared next and got another double play to end the inning and picked up his third win of the season.

RHP Phil Maton came on in the top of the eighth with two outs and two runners out and picked up the biggest out of the game after DH Mastaka Yoshida hit a soft lineout to Lindor to end the inning.

RHP Edwin Diaz closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth.

The Mets are off tomorrow and return back to action on Friday, September 6 at home against the Cincinnati Reds at 7:10 p.m.

Mets Beat Red Sox 7-2 Led By Lindor and Peterson

The New York Mets beat the Boston Red Sox 7-2 tonight at Citi Field for their sixth consecutive win and improved their record to 75-64.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first two innings until the bottom of the third after LF Jeff McNeil walked with one out and then two batters later, SS Francisco Lindor hit a two-run homer.

The offense did not do much for the next three innings until the bottom of the seventh after 3B Mark Vientos led off with a towering 426 foot homer to centerfield.

In the bottom of the eighth, McNeil led off with a single and then catcher Francisco Alvarez followed with a single.

Lindor then hit a RBI double and CF Brandon Nimmo followed with a sacrifice fly.

Two batters later, 1B Pete Alonso broke the game open with a two-run homer.

LHP David Peterson cruised through the first five innings and then gave up a RBI single to 2B Nick Sogard in the top of the sixth and was able to limit the damage to one run and was taken out after the inning.

His final line was six innings, six hits, one run, one walk and 11 strikeouts.

Peterson had excellent life on his fastball and also mixed it his slider and change-up.

He picked up his ninth win and lowered his ERA to 2.75.

RHP Jose Butto followed and a 1-2-3 top of the seventh, but then ran into trouble in the top of the eighth.

Butto walked CF Jarren Duran and RF Tyler O'Neill and was then taken out.

RHP Reed Garrett came in next and gave up an infield hit to 3B Rafael Devers and a sacrifice fly.

Garrett was able to escape out of trouble after he got DH Masataka Yoshida to ground into a 4-6-3 double play.

RHP Ryne Stanek closed it out with a 1-2-3 top of the ninth with two strikeouts.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Wednesday, September 4 at home against the Red Sox at 7:10 p.m.

Mets Beat Red Sox 4-1 Behind Stellar Start From Severino

The New York Mets beat the Boston Red Sox 4-1 tonight at Citi Field for their fifth consecutive win and improved their record to 74-64.

After a scoreless bottom of the first, 3B Jose Iglesias singled to lead off the bottom of the second against RHP Brayan Bello and then 2B Jeff McNeil followed with a single.

RF Starling Marte then grounded into a double play which brought home a run.

In the bottom of the third, SS Francisco Lindor singled with one out and then CF Brandon Nimmo followed with a RBI double.

In the bottom of the fourth, LF D.J. Stewart singled with one out and then catcher Luis Torrens followed with a RBI double.

Lindor then hit a RBI single.

RHP Luis Severino cruised through the first two innings and then gave up a triple to CF Ceddanne Rafaela and a RBI single to the following hitter LF Jarren Duran.

Severino was able to settle down after that and had a 1-2-3 top of the fourth and was able to get a double play in the top of the fifth.

Severino worked his way out of a jam in the top of the sixth and then after a lead-off walk retired the last three hitters he faced and was then taken out.

His final line was seven innings, six hits, one run, two walks and five strikeouts.

Severino had sharp command of his slider in particular with a 53 percent called strike-whiff rate.

He picked up his 10th win and lowered his ERA to 3.84.

LHP Danny Young followed with a scoreless top of the eighth.

RHP Phil Maton closed it out with a 1-2-3 top of the ninth and picked up his third save.

Mets Sweep White Sox 2-0 With Stellar Start From Manaea

The New York Mets beat the Chicago White Sox 2-0 this afternoon at Guaranteed Rate Field to sweep the three-game series and fourth consecutive win overall to improve their record to 73-64.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first three innings against LHP Garrett Crochet until the top of the fourth after SS Francisco Lindor hit a solo homer for his 29th homer and 80th RBI of the season.

The offense did not do much until the top of the ninth after J.D. Martinez walked with two outs and then RF Starling Marte followed with a RBI double.

LHP Sean Manaea continued his dominant stretch with seven scoreless innings.

He gave up two hits and two walks with five strikeouts.

Manaea had excellent command of his slider, fastball and change-up.

 He picked up his 11th win and lowered his ERA to 3.35.

RHP Reed Garrett followed with a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the bottom of the ninth and had a dominating performance striking out the side on 14 pitches to pick up his 16th save of the season.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Monday, September 2 back at home against the Boston Red Sox at 7:10 p.m.
