Mets Waste Another Dominant Outing from Jacob DeGrom and lost 3-0 to Marlins

Mets RHP Jacob deGrom (Credits to Andy Marlin-USA Today Sports) The New York Mets lost to the Miami Marlins 3-0 today at home at Citi Field and dropped their record to 2-3. RHP Jacob deGrom had another spectacular outing allowine one run on five hits in eight innings with no walks and tied a career-high with 14 strikeouts. The only run that DeGrom allowed was a solo homer to 2B Jazz Chisholm Jr in the top of the second inning. He averaged at least two strikeouts every inning expect for the third and eighth innings where he had one strikeout in those innings. It was the second time in MLB history that a starting pitching had at least 14 strikeouts, one run and no walks in a game and prior to DeGrom it was accomplished by James Sheids in 2012 against the Orioles. RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the top of the ninth inning and had a difficult outing allowing two runs on three hits and retired only two hitters. Diaz gave up a double to CF Starling Marte and then RBI singles to 1B Jesus Aguilar and SS Miguel Rojas. RHP Jeurys Familia had to come on to get the last out in the top of the ninth. The offense was quiet against Marlins starter LHP Trevor Rogers. They had only three hits all day, a double by CF Brandon Nimmo in the bottom of the first inning, single by LF Dom Smith in the bottom of the fifth and a single by DeGrom in the bottom of the sixth and all those hits led off the inning, but they weren't able to capitalize and score. The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon at home against the Marlins at 1:10 p.m.
