Mets Lost to Cubs 3-1 after offense struggles with runners in scoring postion

Mets RHP Taijuan Walker (Credits to Kamil Krzaczynski-USA TODAY Sports) The New York Mets lost to the Chicago Cubs 3-1 tonight in Chicago at Wrigley Field and dropped their record to 7-5. RHP Taijuan Walker started out well with two scorless innings, but gave up an unearned run in the bottom of the third inning after 3B J.D. Davis made an error after he double-clutched a low throw to 1B Pete Alonso which caused a run to score. Walker got two quick outs in the bottom of the fourth inning, but gave up a single and stolen base to RF Jason Heyward that was challenged by the Mets but the play stood and then he allowed a RBI single to 2B Eric Sogard. He then gave up three straight walks including one with the bases loaded which brought home another run and was then taken out. His final line was 3.2 innings, 2 hits, 3 runs, 2 earned, 6 walks and 7 strikeouts. While Walker was coming off the field, he was ejected by home plate umpire John Libka for arguing balls and strikes. RHP Robert Gsellman came in next and struck out 1B Anthony Rizzo to end the inning. RHP Jacob Barnes followed with two scorless innings in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings. RHP Jeurys Familia threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning. RHP Trevor May followed with a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning. Davis drove in the only run of the game with a solo homer in the top of the fifth inning. They had six hits in total and went 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base. The Mets next game is tomorrow night at Wrigley at 7:40 p.m.
