Mets Lose to Phillies 8-2 in finale of first series and struggle with RISP

Mets LHP David Peterson (Credits to Bill Streicher- USA Today Sports The New York Mets lost to the Philadelphia Phillies 8-2 this afternoon to lose two out of three games in their first series of the year and dropped their record to 1-2. LHP David Peterson had a rough outing with a difficult in the bottom of the first inning after he gave up a solo homer to 1B Rhys Hoskins and then walked RF Bryce Harper, gave up a single to catcher J.T. Realmuto and then a three-run homer to 3B Alex Bohm. Peterson was able to settle down after that and threw scoreless innings in the bottom of the second, third and fourth innings. He gave up a lead-off double to Hoskins in the bottom of the fifth and a bunt single to Harper and was then taken out. Peterson's final line was 4.0 innings, seven hits, six runs, two walks and five strikeouts. RHP Jacob Barnes came in next for his first Met appearance and gave up a three-run homer to Realmuto, but didn't allow any more runs after that. RHP Dellin Betances followed in the bottom of the sixth and had problems with his command after he gave up a walk and a hit-by-pitch which led to a run. LHP Joey Lucchesi appeared next and did a terrific job and threw two scoreless innings allowing one hit with three strikeouts. The offense struggled all day with men on base and couldn't get a timely hit. They were 1-12 with runners in scoring position and left 14 men on base. 1B Pete Alonso drove in a run with an RBI single in the top of the third inning and 2B Jonathan Villar tripled and scored on a wild pitch in the top of the seventh. The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon in their home opener at Citi Field against the Miami Marlins at 1:10 p.m.
