Mets RHP Marcus Stroman (Credits to MetsMerizedOnline.com) The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 4-0 tonight to sweep the doubleheader and improved the record to 4-3. RHP Marcus Stroman had another terrific outing and he cruised through the first three innings and he faced the minimum of 12 batters through four helped out by a double play by Phillies RF Bryce Harper. Stroman worked out around two hits in the top of the fifth and one in the sixth without giving up a run. He was taken out after the bottom of the sixth since he drew a walk and was on the bases for about 10 minutes. His final line was six innings, four hits, 0 walks and five strikeouts. He improved his record to 2-0 and lowered his ERA to 0.75. Storman kept the hitters off balanced wih his sharp change-up and slider. He had pinpoint command and worked both sides of the plate which helped induce ground-outs for a couple of double plays. Hopefully he can build off this. RHP Jeurys Familia came on in the top of the seventh and gave up a couple of singles, but he was able to close it out. The offense was held scoreless for the first three innings against Phillies ace RHP Aaron Nola until with the bottom of fourth after 2B Jeff McNeil reached on an infield single with one out, RF Kevin Pillar singled and 3B Jonathan Villar hit a RBI double to bring in McNeil. Catcher Tomas Nido was hit-by-a pitch and Stroman struck out, but CF Brandon Nimmo came up with the based loaded and two out and broke the game open with a two-run single. In the bottom of the sixth, Nido tripled with one out, Stroman walked and then Nimmo hit an infield hit to drive in his third RBI and third hit of the game. Nimmo is now hitting .435 with a 1.146 OPS so far this year. The Mets next game is tomorrow night at home against the Phillies at 7:10 p.m.
