Mets Lose to Braves 3-0 In Game 2 of Doubleheader To Close Out Regular Season

The New York Mets lost to the Atlanta Braves 3-0 this afternoon at SunTruist Park in the second game of a doubleheader in their final game of the regular season to finish up with a record of 89-73.

LHP Joey Lucchesi had a strong start allowing one run on three hits in six innings.

He gave up four walks with five strikeouts.

RHP Huascar Brazoban came on in the bottom of the seventh and allowed a two-run single to DH Marcell Ozuna.

RHP Adam Ottavino threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

The Met offense was held in check due to most of their starters sitting and had only three hits all game.

The Mets now look ahead to their National League Wild Card series tomorrow night, Tuesday, October 1 at the Milwaukee Brewers at 5:32 p.m.

Mets Beat Braves 8-7 To Clinch Playoff Spot Powered By Lindor Homer In Ninth Inning

The New York Mets beat the Atlanta Braves 8-7 this afternoon at SunTruist Park in the first game of a doubleheader to clinch a playoff spot and improved their record to 89-72.

The Met offense was held scoreless against RHP Spencer Schwellenbach for the first seven innings, but then came alive in the top of the eighth.

RF Tyrone Taylor led off with a double and catcher Francisco Alvarez followed with a RBI double.

Pinch-hitter Starling Marte then singled to advance Alvarez to third and SS Francisco Lindor followed with a RBI single.

2B Jose Iglesias then tied the game with a RBI single and stole second.

3B Mark Vientos followed with a sacrifice fly and LF Brandon Nimmo followed with a two-run homer.

In the top of the ninth, Marte singled with one out and then Lindor delivered the game-winning two-run homer.

RHP Tylor Megill started out well with two scoreless innings and then gave up a two-run homer to 2B Ozzie Albies in the bottom of the third.

Megill then had scoreless innings in the bottom of the fourth and fifth and gave up a solo homer to LF Ramon Laureano in the bottom of the sixth and was taken out with two outs in the bottom of the sixth.

His final line was 5.2 innings, eight hits, three runs, two walks and eight strikeouts.

RHP Huascar Brazoban came in next and got the last out in the bottom of the sixth.

RHP Adam Ottavino threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh.

RHP Phil Maton came on in the bottom of the eighth and gave up a hit by pitch and single and retired one out and was then taken out.

RHP Edwin Diaz came on and after retiring Gio Urshela, gave up an infield hit to former Met Jared Kelic and then walked CF Michael Harris.

Diaz then gave up a based clearing double to Albies.

Diaz came back out for the bottom of the ninth and threw a scoreless bottom of the ninth to pick up his sixth win.

The Mets next game is a half hour after the first game.

Mets Beat Brewers 5-0 Behind Stellar Start From Peterson To Stay Alive in Wild Card Race

The New York Mets beat the Milwaukee Brewers 5-0 this afternoon at Great American Family Field to snap their three-game losing streak and improved their record to 88-72.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first after SS Francisco Lindor led off with a walk and then stole second.

Two batters later, LF Brandon Nimmo drove in Lindor with a RBI single.

In the top of the fourth, J.D. Martinez led off with a double to break his 0-35 slump and then RF Starling Marte hit a sacrifice bunt back to the pitcher to allow Martinez to advance to third.

Catcher Francisco Alvarez followed with a RBI single to bring in Martinez.

CF Tyrone Taylor then singled and Lindor followed with a RBI single.

In the top of the fifth, 3B Mark Vientos led off with a single and 1B Pete Alonso followed with a hit by pitch.

Vientos and Alonso then advanced to second and third on a wild pitch by LHP Colin Rea,

Two batters later, Marte was intentionally walked to load the bases and then Alvarez came up and drove in his second run of the game with a RBI single.

In the top of the sixth, Lindor capped off his stellar day at the plate with a solo homer for his second RBI of the game,

LHP David Peterson had the best start in his Met career with seven scoreless innings,

He gave up one hit with three walks and eight strikeouts.

Peterson ended up his season on a high note by picking up his 10th win and lowering his ERA to 2.90.

He has the fifth-lowest ERA among all MLB pitchers, though he didn't have enough innings pitched to qualify for official stats.

Peterson also allowed two or fewer runs in 17 of his 21 starts.

RHP Phil Maton followed with a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

RHP Edwin Diaz closed it out with a scoreless bottom of the ninth.

The Mets now look ahead to a make-up doubleheader tomorrow Monday, September 30 at the Atlanta Braves with the first game beginning at 1:10 p.m.

Mets Shutout By Brewers 6-0 As Offense Continues To Struggle

The New York Mets lost to the Milwaukee Brewers 6-0 tonight at Great American Field for their third consecutive loss and dropped their record to 87-72.

LHP Jose Quintana started out well with three scoreless innings, but ran into trouble in the bottom of the fourth.

Quintana gave up a couple of walks to load the bases and then gave up a two-run double to 3B Joey Ortiz.

Quintana picked one out in the bottom of the fifth and was then taken out.

His final line was 4.1 innings, five hits, two runs, two walks and nine strikeouts.

RHP Phil Maton followed with 1.2 scoreless innings.

RHP Ryne Stanek then threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh.

RHP Reed Garrett came on in the bottom of the eighth and gave up a RBI single to SS Willy Adames and then walked Ortiz with the based loaded to bring in another run and was then taken out.

LHP Danny Young came in next and gave up a two-run single to 2B Andruw Monasterio.

The Met offense was held in check all night managing only two hits.

They went 0-6 with runners in scoring position and left four runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Sunday, September 29 at the Brewers at 3:10 p.m.
