RHP Carlos Carrasco started out well with two scoreless innings, but in the bottom of the third he ran into trouble after he gave up a lead-off walk to 2B Brian Turang who then stole second.
Carrasco then retired the next two hitters, but gave up a RBI single to DH Jesse Winker.
Carrasco's struggles continued in the bottom of the fourth after he gave up a two-out single to CF Garrett Mitchell and then a two-run homer to 3B Brian Anderson.
Carrasco had more troubles in the bottom of the fifth after he walked LF Christian Yelich and Winker and was then taken out.
His final line was four innings, five runs, four walks and four strikeouts.
RHP Tommy Hunter came in next and gave up a RBI single to RBI single to SS Willy Adames.
Hunter then walked 1B Rowdy Tellez and then gave up a RBI ground-out to catcher William Contreras
Hunter walked Mitchell which loaded the bases and then gave up a RBI single to Anderson.
It all fell apart for Hunter after he gave up a grand-slam to Turang.
Hunter stayed in for the bottom of the sixth and threw a scoreless inning and was taken out after the inning.
His final line was two innings, five hits, five runs, two walks and one strikeout.
RHP Dennis Santana followed and threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh.
Infielder Luis Guillorme threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.
The offense did nothing all game and managed only three hits.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Tuesday, April 4 at the Brewers at 7:40 p.m.

The offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first after CF Tommy Pham led off with a single and three batters later, 1B Pete Alonso walked.
DH Mark Canha followed with a walk to load the bases and then 2B Jeff McNeil reached on an infield hit on a throwing error by SP Trevor Rodgers which allowed Pham and Alonso to score.
The bats did not do much for the next few innings until the top of the fifth after LF Tim Locastro led off with a walk and then Pham followed with a two-run homer.
After a scoreless top of the sixth, Locastro was hit by a pitch with one out in the top of the seventh and then Pham capped off his stellar day at the plate with a RBI double for his third RBI of the game.
Mets RHP Kodai Senga made his much-anticipated ML debut after coming over from Japan and got off to a rocky start in the bottom of the first allowing a single, two walks and a wild pitch.
Senga gave a run, but was able to limit the damage with the based loaded and no out with back-to-back strikeouts and then retired 3B Jon Berti on a line-out to RF Starling Marte to end the inning.
Senga settled down nicely after that and wound up retiring 15 out of the last 17 hitters he faced.
He showed a lot of poise and composure in the bottom of the first inning and didn't get rattled with having to get of a bases loaded jam and allow only one run.
Senga featured a blazing fastball topping off at 99 mph along with a devastating splitter or "ghostfork"as well as a sharp slider.
His ghost fork kept the Marlins off balanced all game and he was to generate strikes on eight out of the 12 first ghost forks that he threw.
It will be fun to see how Senga continues to evolve and keep hitters guessing with all of the pitches he can throw.
His final line was 5.1 innings, three hits, one run, three walks and eight strikeouts to pick up his first Major League win.
RHP Dennis Santana followed and got the last two outs in the bottom of the sixth.
RHP John Curtiss came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh.
RHP Stephen Nogosek closed it out with two scoreless innings in the bottom of the eighth and ninth.
The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Monday, April 3 at the Milwaukee Brewers at 2:10 p.m.

After a scoreless top of the first, LF Mark Canha led off the top of the second with a double and then 2B Luis Guillorme followed with a walk.
3B Eduardo Escobar then grounded out and catcher Omar Narvaez drove in Canva with a sacrifice fly.
In the top of the fourth, Canha led off with a walk and three batters later, Narvarez drove in Canha with a RBI single for his second RBI of the game.
In the top of the fifth, RF Jeff McNeil led off with a double and then 1B Pete Alonso followed with a RBI double.
Two batters later, Canha delivered with a RBI single.
After a scoreless top of the sixth, Canha capped off his stellar day at the plate with a solo homer in the top of the seventh.
RHP Tylor Megill had a solid first outing of the season allowing two runs on six hits in five innings.
Megill gave up two walks and had seven strikeouts.
He worked out of some jams and showed composure with men on base.
He picked up his first win.
RHP Dennis Santana came in next and made his Met debut in the bottom of the sixth and threw a scoreless inning.
LHP Drew Smith and LHP Brooks Raley combined to throw a scoreless bottom of the seventh.
RHP Adam Ottavino threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.
RHP David Robertson closed it out with a scoreless bottom of the ninth.
