The New York Mets beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 9-0 tonight to sweep the three-game series and fifth consecutive win overall to improve their record to 41-46.
The Mets offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first after SS Francisco Lindor tripled with two outs and then 1B Pete Alonso followed with a two-run homer.
After a scoreless top of the second, Lindor hit another triple with one out in the top of the third and then Alonso followed with a RBI single.
DH Daniel Vogelbach followed with a RBI double and two batters later, 2B Jeff McNeil hit a RBI ground-rule double to bring in McNeil.
Catcher Francisco Alvarez followed with a two-run homer to bring the game open for his 16th homer of his young rookie season.
In the top of the fifth, Vogelbach led off with a single and two batters McNeil walked.
Alvarez followed with a RBI single for his third RBI of the night.
In the top of the sixth, Lindor capped off the scoring for the night with a solo homer.
Lindor had an incredible game going 5-5 with two triples, a homer and two singles and was a double shy of hitting for the cycle.
He raised his average up to .233 and now has 18 homers and 57 RBI on the season.
RHP Carlos Carrasco had a spectacular outing throwing eight scoreless innings allowing three hits and one walk with four strikeouts.
Carrasco had pinpoint command of his fastball, change-up and curveball which helped keep the young Diamondback hitters off balanced.
He picked up his third win and lowered his ERA down to 5.16.
RHP Trevor Gott came on in the bottom of the ninth and closed it out with a scoreless inning.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Friday, July 7 at the San Diego Padres at 9:40 p.m.
