The New York Mets lost to the New York Yankees 3-1 tonight at Yankee Stadium to split their two-game series and dropped their record to 47-54.

LHP Jose Quintana started out with a scoreless bottom of the first, but ran into trouble in the bottom of the second.

Quintana gave up a lead-off walk to 3B D.J. LaMahieu and then walked CF Harrison Bader.

Quintana then walked SS Anthony Volpe to load the bases and two batters later gave up a RBI ground-out to 2B Oswalt Peraza.

Quintana then gave up a sacrifice fly to the following hitter LF Isiah Kiner-Falefa.

Quintana had a scoreless bottom of the third, but was let down by his defense in the bottom of the fourth after 3B Mark Vientos made a throwing error which allowed Bader to go to second.

Quintana then gave up a RBI single to the following hitter Volpe.

Quintana was able to settle down after that with scoreless innings in the bottom of the fifth and sixth and was then taken out.

His final line was six innings, six hits, three runs (two earned runs), three walks and five strikeouts.

RHP Drew Smith followed and threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh.

RHP Trevor Gott threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first two innings against LHP Carlon Rondon, but in the top of the third, catcher Francisco Alvarez led off with a single and 2B Danny Mendick followed with a double.

CF Brandon Nimmo then drove in Alvarez with a sacrifice fly and two batters later SS Francisco Lindor walked to load the bases.

1B Pete Alonso came up next and hit a hard line out to left field to end the scoring threat.

In the top of the fourth, RF Jeff McNeil walked and LF Mark Canha singled with one out.

Alvarez came up next with a golden scoring opportunity, but grounded into a double play on the first pitch he saw.

In the top of the fifth, Nimmo reached on an error with one out and Vientos followed with a single.

However, Lindor then lined out to second and Alonso struck out to end the threat.

In the top of the sixth, Canha singled with two outs, but then Alvarez popped up to end the inning.

The bats did not do much after that and had no more hits the rest of the game.

They were unable to get a clutch hit all night and went 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left 7 runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Thursday, July 27 at home against the Washington Nationals at 7:10 p.m.
