The New York Mets beat the Washington Nationals 2-1 tonight at Citi Field and improved their record to 48-54.

The Met offense struggled for the first seven innings and did not do much against RHP Josiah Gray, but came alive in the bottom of the eighth.

2B Jeff McNeil and 1B Pete Alonso singled with one out and then DH Daniel Vogelbach drove in McNeil with a RBI single to tie the game.

RF D.J. Stewart was then hit by a pitch to load the bases and then after a long rain delay, LF Mark Canha drove in the game-winning run with a sacrifice fly.

RHP Kodai Senga had another stellar outing allowing one run on two hits in six innings.

Senga gave up three walks and had five strikeouts.

He lowered his ERA to 3.17.

LHP David Peterson followed with two scoreless innings in the top of the seventh and eighth innings.

He picked up his third win.

LHP Brooks Raley closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth and picked up his second save.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Friday, July 28 at home against the Washington Nationals at 7:10 p.m.
