RHP Kodai Senga had another stellar outing allowing one run on four hits in six innings.
Senga had two walks with nine strikeouts and lowered his ERA to 3.20.
LHP Brooks Raley followed with a scoreless top of the seventh.
RHP Adam Ottavino came on in the top of the eighth and gave up back-to-back one out singles to 3B Max Muncy and DH J.D. Martinez.
Ottavino was then able to get LF David Peralta to ground out to 1B Pete Alonso, but then Alonso made a poor high throw to shortstop Francisco Lindor trying to turn a double play which allowed the go-ahead run to score.
RHP Grant Hartwig followed in the top of the eighth and gave up a lead-off single to 2B Mookie Betts and two batters later a double to catcher Will Smith.
Hartwig was then let down by his defense after 3B Brett Baty dropped a pop-out which allowed a run to score.
Hartwig gave up RBI singles to the following two hitters Martinez and Peralta.
The Met offense did not do much outside of a solo homer by CF Brandon Nimmo in the bottom of the fourth.
They struggled with picking up timely hits in particular in the bottom of the eighth wasting a scoring opportunity with runners on first and third and no out.
They went 0-3 with runners in scoring position leaving two runners on base.
The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Sunday July 16 at home against the Dodgers at 1:40 p.m.
