Mets Lose To Padres 3-1 After Offense Struggles

The New York Mets lost to the San Diego Padres 3-1 tonight at Petco Park to snap their six-game winning streak and dropped their record to 42-47.

LHP David Peterson had a scoreless bottom of the first, but ran into trouble in the bottom of the second.

Peterson gave up a lead-off double to catcher Gary Sanchez and then an infield hit to 1B Jake Croneworth.

Peterson then gave up a RBI ground-out to DH Brandon Dixon and a two-run homer to the following hitter 3B Matthew Batten.

Peterson settled down after that and did nor allow any more runs.

His final was 5.1 innings, five hits, three runs, two walks and seven strikeouts.

RHP Dominic Leone came in next and got the last two outs in the bottom of the sixth.

RHP Grant Hartwig followed and threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh.

RHP Travis Gott threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

The Met offense did not do much against LHP Blake Snell outside of a solo homer by catcher Francisco Alvarez in the top of the seventh.

It was Alvarez's 17th homer in his rookie season.

They went 0-3 with runners in scoring position leaving five runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Sunday July 10 at the Padres at 4:10 in their final game before the All-Star break.

Mets Beat Padres 7-5 Behind Four Run Tenth

The New York Mets beat the San Diego Padres 7-5 tonight at Petco Park for their sixth consecutive win and improved their record to 42-46.

In the top of first, CF Brandon Nimmo led off with a walk and then LF Tommy Pham followed with a single.

Two batters later, 1B Pete Alonso was hit by a pitch to load the bases and then DH Daniel Vogelbach reached on an infield hit which brought home a run.

RF Starling Marte then grounded into a double play which ended the scoring threat.

After a scoreless top of the second, SS Francisco Lindor hit a solo homer with two outs in the top of the third.

In the top of the fifth, Lindor walked with one out and stole second.

Two batters later, Vogelbach came through with another RBI single to tie the game.

The Met offense did not do much for the next four innings and wasted a scoring opportunity in the top of the ninth after Marte grounded into another double play with the based loaded, but came through un the top of the tenth.

2B Jeff McNeil led off the tenth with a RBI double and then catcher Francisco Alvarez followed with a RBI single.

DH Mark Canha then grounded out to the catcher and Nimmo flew out to right.

Pham was then hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a wild pitch which also advanced Alvarez to third.

Lindor came up next and broke the game open with a two-run single.

RHP Justin Verlander got off to a tough start in the bottom of the first after he gave up a RBI double to 3B Manny Machado and then  was let down by his defense after 3B Luis Guillorme made an error to allow another to score.

Verlander then gave up a RBI double to CF Trent Grisham in the bottom of the second and then loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the third and got catcher Gary Sanchez to ground into a double play.

Verlander settled down after that with scoreless innings in the bottom of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings and was then taken out.

His final line was six innings, five hits, three runs (two earned), three walks and two strikeouts.

LHP Brooks Raley came in next and got the first two outs in the bottom of the seventh.

RHP Adam Ottavino followed with 1.1 scoreless innings.

RHP Drew Smith threw a scoreless bottom of the ninth and picked up his fourth win.

RHP David Robertson came on in the bottom of the tenth and gave up a two-run home to Machado, but was able to get the last three outs to close it out.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Saturday, July 9 at the Padres at 10:10 p.m.

Mets Sweep Diamondbacks 9-0 Behind Carrasco and Lindor

 The New York Mets beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 9-0 tonight to sweep the three-game series and fifth consecutive win overall to improve their record to 41-46.

The Mets offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first after SS Francisco Lindor tripled with two outs and then 1B Pete Alonso followed with a two-run homer.

After a scoreless top of the second, Lindor hit another triple with one out in the top of the third and then Alonso followed with a RBI single.

DH Daniel Vogelbach followed with a RBI double and two batters later, 2B Jeff McNeil hit a RBI ground-rule double to bring in McNeil.

Catcher Francisco Alvarez followed with a two-run homer to bring the game open for his 16th homer of his young rookie season.

In the top of the fifth, Vogelbach led off with a single and two batters McNeil walked.

Alvarez followed with a RBI single for his third RBI of the night.

In the top of the sixth, Lindor capped off the scoring for the night with a solo homer.

Lindor had an incredible game going 5-5 with two triples, a homer and two singles and was a double shy of hitting for the cycle.

He raised his average up to .233 and now has 18 homers and 57 RBI on the season.

RHP Carlos Carrasco had a spectacular outing throwing eight scoreless innings allowing three hits and one walk with four strikeouts.

Carrasco had pinpoint command of his fastball, change-up and curveball which helped keep the young Diamondback hitters off balanced.

He picked up his third win and lowered his ERA down to 5.16.

RHP Trevor Gott came on in the bottom of the ninth and closed it out with a scoreless inning.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Friday, July 7 at the San Diego Padres at 9:40 p.m.

Mets Rally To Beat Diamondbacks 2-1 in Ninth Inning

 The New York Mets beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 2-1 tonight at Chase Field for their fourth consecutive win and improved their record to 40-46.

The Met offense was silenced for the first eight innings, but came alive with two outs in the top of the ninth against closer LHP Andrew Chavin.

Catcher Francisco Alvares hit a game-tying solo homer with two outs to the opposite field to to tie the game and then 3B Brett Baty followed with a single.

DH Mark Canha came up next and hit a towering game-winning triple to centerfield to bring in Baty,

RHP Kodai Senga had a spectacular outing allowing one run on four hits in eight inning.

He gave up one walk with 12 strikeouts.

Senga was in complete control all night and had outstanding command of his "ghostfork" splitter along with his blazing fastball topping out in the upper 90's.

It was without a doubt the best start of his rookie season.

He picked up his seventh win and lowered his ERA to 3.31.

RHP David Robertson closed it out with a scoreless bottom of the ninth and picked up his 13th save.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Thursday, July 6 at the Diamondbacks at 9:40 p.m.
