Mets Lose to Brewers 8-3 As Freddy Peralta's Struggles Continue

The New York Mets lost to the Milwaukee Brewers 8-3 tonight at American Family Field and dropped their record to 42-59.

Mets RHP Freddy Peralta got into immediate trouble in the bottom of the first after he walked LF Jackson Chourio with one out and then gave up a RBI double to second baseman Brice Turang. Two batters later, Peralta gave up a RBI single to CF Garrett Mitchell.

In the bottom of the second, Peralta gave up a solo homer to SS Cooper Pratt.

In the bottom of the third, Peralta gave up a two-run homer to 1B Andrew Vaughn.

Peralta was able to settle down for a little while with scoreless innings in the bottom of the fourth and fifth, but in the bottom of the sixth walked RF Jake Bauers and then gave up a single to Pratt and was taken out.

RHP Xzavion Curry came in next and gave up a three-run homer to 3B Joey Ortiz.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first two innings until the top of the third after catcher Francisco Alvarez led off with a single and then RF A.J. Ewing reached on a fielding error by Vaughn which allowed Alvarez to advance to third. 

However, LF Juan Soto came up next and grounded into a double play to cost them a big inning, but still scored Alvarez.

In the top of the eighth, Soto walked with one out and then 3B Bo Bichette followed with a double to advance to Soto to third.

SS Francisco Lindor then drove in Soto with a RBI ground-out and then DH Jorge Polanco drove in Bichette with a RBI single.

The offense went 1-5 with runners in scoring position leaving seven runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Tuesday, July 21 at the Brewers at 7:40 p.m.
