The Met offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first after CF A.J. Ewing hit a lead-off homer.
The offense did not do much after that for the next six innings against Royals reliver RHP Randy Dobnak who was taken out with two outs in the bottom of the seventh.
In the bottom of the eighth with two outs, SS Francisco Lindor singled and then RF Carson Benge followed with a walk. DH Jorge Polanco then reached on an infield hit to load the bases.
1B Jared Young was then hit by a pitch to score the go-ahead run. 2B Brett Baty came up next and delivered a two-run single.
Young then scored on a wild pitch and catcher Francisco Alvarez capped off the inning with a RBI single.
Mets RHP Christian Scott had a tough first couple of scoreless innings and had to throw 49 pitches. Scott was able to settle down after that with more efficient innings in the top of the third and fourth needing only 25 pitches. He finished up strong with a 1-2-3 top of the fifth and was taken out with 90 pitches.
Scott's final line was 5.0 innings, three hits, 0 runs, one walk and five strikeouts.
RHP Tobias Myers came in next in the top of the sixth and gave up a one-out double to 1B Jac Caglianone and later in the inning, a RBI single to DH Salvador Perez.
Myers came back out for the top of the seventh and was able to escape out of a jam after he allowed a lead-off double.
LHP Brooks Raley with a scoreless top of the eighth. Raley picked up his fourth win of the season.
RHP Xzavion Curry came on in the top of the ninth inning in his Met debut and gave up a one on a double and walk. Curry was able to get the last three outs to close out the game.
The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Thursday, July 9 at home against the Royals at 1:10 p.m.
