Mets Beat Phillies 4-1 Powered By Two Homers From Francisco Alvarez And Strong Start From Christian Scott

The New York Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies 4-1 tonight at Citizens Bank Park to snap their three-game losing streak and improved their record to 41-57.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first two innings until the top of the third after catcher Francisco Alvarez hit a solo homer.

The offense did not score any runs for the next four innings until the top of the seventh after 2B Brett Baty and Alvarez hit back-to-back homers.

In the top of the ninth, 1B Jared Young led off with a walk and three batters later, CF A.J. Ewing drove in Young with a RBI double.

Mets RHP Christian Scott had a terrific start with 5.2 scoreless innings. He allowed three hits and no walks with seven strikeouts on 79 pitches (56 strikes). Scott picked up his third win and lowered his ERA to 2.87.

LHP Brooks Raley came in next and picked up last out in the bottom of the sixth.

RHP Huascar Brazoban threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh.

RHP Luke Weaver came on in the bottom of the eighth and had his scoreless streak of 25 straight appearances end after he gave up a solo homer to SS Trea Turner.

RHP Devin Williams followed and closed it out with a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth to pick up his 14th save.

The Mets are off tomorrow and return back to action on Saturday, July 18 at the Phillies at 4:05 p.m.
