RHP Reed Garrett got the start as an "opener" and had a scoreless bottom of the first.
RHP Frankie Montas came in next in the bottom of the second and loaded the bases with two singles and a walk and with two outs, Montas got the ground ball he needed off SS Junior Ortiz, but SS Francisco Lindor missed the grounder which allowed two runs to score.
Montas had a scoreless bottom of the third and then gave up a solo homer to 2B Brice Turang and was taken out after the inning.
Montas's final line was three innings, three hits, three runs (one earned run), two walks and three strikeouts.
LHP Gregory Soto followed with a scoreless bottom of the fifth.
RHP Tyler Rogers threw a scoreless bottom of the sixth.
RHP Ryne Stanek came on in the bottom of the seventh and gave up a lead-off single and ground-rule double and gave up a RBI ground-out to RF Sal Frelick and was taken out.
RHP Ryan Helsley came in next and gave an infield hit to LF Issacc Collins that 3B Ronny Maurico missed which allowed go-ahead run to score.
Helsley was then involved in a strange play after it appeared catcher Wilson Contreras flew out to end the inning, but Helsey was called for a pitch-clock violation.
Helsley then gave up a two-run homer to Contreras and was taken out.
RHP Justin Hagenman came in next and threw a scoreless inning.
In the top of the second, 1B Pete Alonso hit a solo homer for his 26th homer and 252th career homer to tie Darryl Strawberry for most homers in Met history.
In the top of the third, DH Starling Marte hit a solo homer.
In the top of the fourth, 2B Jeff McNeil doubled with one out and catcher Francisco Alvarez followed with a walk.
McNeil and Alvarez then advanced on a wild pitch and CF Cedric Mullins drove in McNeil with a RBI single.
In the top of the fifth, RF Juan Soto lead off with a homer.
The Met offense did not do much after that went 1-4 with runners in scoring position leaving seven runners on base.
The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Sunday, August 10 at the Brewers at 2:10 p.m.
