The New York Mets announced on Tuesday that catcher Francisco Alvarez has been placed on the 10-day IL with a right thumb UCL sprain after he jammed his thumb on a head-first slide into second base in the bottom of the seventh during Sunday night's game.

Alvarez will be re-evaluated in 10-14 days to return to action.

Catcher Hayden Senger has been called up from Triple-A in Alvarez's absence.

It's a big loss for the Mets lineup since Alvarez has been fantastic since being recalled from being demoted in late July hitting .323 with four homers, six doubles, one triple, 13 RBI, and 14 runs scored in 71 plate appearances over 21 games.
