Mets Lose To Braves 4-3 After Helsley Gives Up Two Runs in Eighth

The New York Mets lost to the Atlanta Braves 4-3 tonight at Citi Field to lose two out of three games in the series and dropped their record to 64-57.

RHP Kodai Senga started out well with three scoreless innings and then gave up a solo homer to 2B Ozzie Albies in the top of the fourth.

Senga had a scoreless top of the fifth and then walked 1B Matt Olson to lead  off the top of the sixth and after retiring the next two hitters, gave up a single to CF Michael Harris II and was then taken out.

RHP Tyler Rogers came in next and gave up a RBI single to Albies.

Rogers stayed in for the top of the seventh and threw a scoreless inning and was then taken out.

RHP Ryan Helsley came on in the top of the eighth and after retiring catcher Drake Baldwin on a fly-out to start the inning, walked DH Marcell Ozuna and then gave up back-to-back doubles to Harris II and Albies.

RHP Edwin Diaz threw a scoreless top of the ninth,

In the bottom of the third, SS Francisco Lindor drove in the first run of the game with a solo homer.

In the bottom of the sixth, Lindor singled with one out and then stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by Baldwin.

RF Juan Soto followed with a walk and then LF Brandon Nimmo drove in Lindor with a sacrifice fly and Soto stole second.

1B Pete Alonso followed with a RBI single.

The Met offense did not do much after that outside of an infield hit by Lindor in the bottom of the eighth.

They went 1-2 with runners in scoring position leaving three runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Friday, August 15 at home against the Seattle Mariners at 7:10 p.m.
