What is going on with Matt Harvey?

For those of you hearing Matt Harvey's name repeatedly on sports radio today, as well as reading about him on Twitter and Facebook's trending section, let's figure out whats going on.

As Matt Cerrone on Metsblog.com points out, this is the sixth month anniversary of Matt Harvey's Tommy John surgery. In celebratory fashion, Harvey tweeted a photo of himself in his hospital bed, after the surgery, giving the middle finger to the camera. The gesture is a shot at Tommy John surgery itself---one that has allowed pitchers to come back and perform even better than previously.

Not only has Harvey's tweet, but his entire Twitter account has been deleted. In a year where it is not at all about Matt Harvey, he is certainly making it about Matt Harvey. This is the latest in a saga of events, ranging from nude photos, to arguments with management about where to rehab, that Matt Harvey has taken the fans on.

In the end, this is no big deal. What Matt Harvey does off the field is completely separate from what he does on the field. And we all know how he is on the field. Matt isn't the first New York City athlete to bask in the limelight and cause headlines (see Alex Rodriguez). Before long Harvey will be back with the ball club and this nonsense will stop. In the meantime, he's clearly bored, and Mets brass wants him to shut up.
