On Easter Sunday the Mets (9-9) defeated the Atlanta Braves (12-8) by the score of 4-3. The Mets won this game on a walk off sac-fly in the 14th inning by the slumping Curtis Granderson. The Mets have now evened the season series with the Braves 3-3. Below are the highlights from Sunday's affair:
Zack Wheeler started for the Mets and pitched six quality innings, surrendering three runs on six hits. Zack was pulled for a pinch hitter in the bottom of the 6th inning.
Curtis Granderson went 0-6 at the plate, but hit the game winning sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 14th to seal the deal for New York. Curtis, and the Mets, needed something to go his way in that inning and it was great to see a positive result in what has been a negative start for the Mets star right fielder.
The Bullpen was excellent in today's contest. Dice-K Matsuzaka threw three scoreless innings in relief, followed by one scoreless inning from the newly demoted Jose Valverde. Valverde also picked up the win in the game.
David Wright continues his 11 game hitting streak with four more hits today. As Ron Darling put it on today's broadcast, "it's only a matter of time before Wright gets into that power groove."
Next up, the St. Louis Cardinals come to town for a four game series. Personally, i'd sign up for a split of this series. Tomorrow night at 7:10 pm, Dillon Gee takes the ball for our Mets. Lets go Mets!
