On wednesday afternoon the New York Mets defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks by the score of 5-2. Dillon Gee earned the win and Jose Valverde earned the save. This was the Mets' first sweep of the season, and also the first time they have reached .500 in the early campaign. Below are the top players from the game.
Dillon Gee: Gee needed only 74 pitches to get through 7 innings this afternoon in the desert. After two straight starts where Dillon blew his own lead in the 6th inning or later, he bounced back beautifully tonight while continuing the streak or strong starting pitching by the Mets. He kept the aggressive Diamondback hitters at bay all afternoon mixing in his breaking stuff.
Anthony Recker: Like Ron Darling noted when the Mets were in Los Angeles over the weekend, Anthony Recker always comes up with a big hit. Today was no different. In the second inning, Anthony hit a towering home run to give the Mets a 1-0 lead. They would never look back.
Eric Young: There's a reason Terry Collins makes the big bucks. It's for decisions like these. Young has started every game, but two, this season. After a slow start, he has been the catalyst atop the Mets order. Today he stole two of the mets four stolen bases. The other two were split by Murphy and Wright. Young is not only leading the team's running game, but he's leading their offense. On friday the Mets expect to have Chris Young and Curtis Granderson in the lineup. What does this mean for E.Y.? How about Kirk who had another RBI today. We may not know until 7:10 PM Friday night.
Next up the Mets face the Atlanta Braves Friday, April 18th at Citi field. The game can be seen on SNY and heard on WOR 710 AM.
