Mets Shutout by Tigers in 10 innings And Drop To 0-4

The New York Mets lost to the Detroit Tigers 4-0 in 10 innings at Citi Field for their fourth consecutive loss and dropped their record to 0-4.

LHP Sean Manaea had a fine Met debut with six scoreless innings.

Manaea had a no-hitter for the first 5 2/3 innings which is the longest by a Met pitcher in his first start in team history.

His final line was six innings, one hit, two walks and eight strikeouts.

RHP Jorge Lopez followed with a scoreless top of the seventh.

LHP Brooks Raley came in next with a scoreless top of the eighth.

RHP Edwin Diaz then had a dominating top of the ninth with two strikeouts.

RHP Michael Tonkin came on in the top of the tenth and was let down by his defense after 3B Joey Wendle misplayed a grounder.

Tonkin then had a chopper bounce off his glove that would have been a double play and then gave up a sacrifice fly to SS Javier Baez.

He then gave up a three-run homer to catcher Carson Kelly which put the game out of reach.

The Met offense was unable to much all night managing only five hits and leaving nine runners on base and was 0-6 with runners in scoring position.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Tuesday, April 2 at home against the Tigers at 7:10 p.m.

Tylor Megill Goes on IL With Shoulder Strain

New York Mets RHP Tylor Megill was placed was 15-day injured list with a right shoulder strain. 

RHP Reed Garrett was recalled as corresponding roster move.

Mets Swept By Brewers 4-1 in Opening Series

The New York Mets lost to the Milwaukee Brewers 4-1 this afternoon at Citi Field and to swept in their opening series and dropped their record to 0-3.

RHP Tylor Megill got off to a tough start in the top of the first after he walked LF Christian Yelich who then stole second and then Megill gave up a RBI single to SS Willy Adames.

In the top of the second, Megill gave up another run on a RBI single by RF Jackson Chourino.

Megill had scoreless innings in the top of the third and fourth, and was taken out after the inning due to high pitch count.

His final line was 4.0 innings, three hits, two runs (one earned), three walks and four strikeouts.

Reliever RHP Yohan Ramirez followed and two runs in three innings.

RHP Drew Smith threw a scoreless top of the eighth.

LHP Brooks Raley threw a scoreless top of the ninth.

The Met offense struggled with men on base leaving eight runners on base and going 1-4 with runners in scoring position.

CF Tyrone Taylor drove in the only run with a RBI single in the bottom of the second.

Mets Lose to Brewers 7-6 After Severino Struggles

The New York Mets lost to the Milwaukee Brewers 7-6  this afternoon at Citi Field for their second consecutive loss and dropped their record to 0-2.

In the top of the first, RHP Luis Severino was hurt by his defense after 3B Zach Short botched a grounder which allowed catcher Wilson Contreras to reach first.

Severino then gave up a single to LF Christian Yelich and a RBI double to the following hitter SS Willy Adames.

Two batters later, Severino gave up a two-run double to DH Rhys Hoskins.

In the top of the third, Severino gave up a hit to Adames and then a two-run homer to Hoskins.

After a scoreless top of the fourth, Severino gave up another run in the top of the fifth on a balk and was taken out after the inning.

His final line was 5 innings, 12 hits, 6 runs, 0 walks and 6 strikeouts.

LHP Jake Diekman followed with a scoreless top of the sixth.

RHP Yohan Ramirez and RHP Jorge Lopez combined to pitch a scoreless top of the seventh.

RHP Adam Ottavino gave up a RBI single to Yelich in the top of the eighth.

RHP Edwin Diaz made his season debut in the top of the ninth after missing the entire 2023 season and threw a scoreless inning.

After a scoreless bottom of the first, in the bottom of the second, catcher Francisco Alvarez drove in the first run of the game for the Mets with a solo homer.

In the bottom of the third, Alvarez drove in his second run of the game with a RBI single.

The offense did not do much for the first four innings until the bottom of the eighth after pinch-hitter Brett Baty hit a three-run homer.

In the bottom of the ninth, 1B Pete Alonso hit a solo homer, his first homer of the season.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Sunday, March 31 at home against the Brewers at 1:40 p.m.
