Mets Rout Nationals 11-5 Behind Nimmo and Rookies

The New York Mets beat the Washington Nationals 11-5 tonight at Nationals Park for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 64-74.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first after CF Brandon Nimmo led off with a single against LHP Patrick Corbin and then SS Francisco Lindor followed with a single.

Two batters later 1B Pete Alonso drove in Nimmo with a sacrifice fly.

DH Mark Vientos followed with a hit by pitch and then catcher Francisco Alvarez caped off the scoring  in the inning with a three-run homer.

After a scoreless top of the second, Lindor led off the top of the third with a homer and then three batters later, Vientos tripled.

Alvarez followed with a walk and then 3B Brett Baty broke the game open with a two-run single.

In the top of the fourth, Nimmo hit a solo homer with one out in the inning.

In the top of the fifth, 1B Pete Alonso continued his hot streak with a solo homer for his 42th homer of the season.

The Met offense did not do much for the next two innings until the top of the eighth after Alvarez doubled with one out in the inning and then two batters later, 2B Ronny Maurico drove in his first career run with a RBI single.

In the top of the ninth, Nimmo came through once again with another solo homer for his 22th homer of the season.

LHP Jose Quintana had another stellar start allowing one run on four hits in seven innings.

He gave up one walk with four strikeouts.

He picked up his second win and lowered his ERA to 3.00.

RHP Sam Coonrod followed in the bottom of the eighth and had a difficult outing allowing four runs on two hits with two walks.

Coonrod was unable to record an out in the inning.

RHP Sean-Reid Foley came in next and threw a scoreless inning.

RHP Drew Smith closed it out with a scoreless bottom of the ninth.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Wednesday, September 6 at the Nationals at 7:05 p.m.

Mets Beat Mariners 6-3 To Take Series Powered By Alonso

 The New York Mets beat the Seattle Mariners 6-3 this afternoon at Citi Field to take two out of three games in the series and improved their record to 63-74.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first after SS Francisco Lindor reached on an error with one out and then two batters later, 1B Pete Alonso hit a RBI single.

In the bottom of the second 2B Ronny Mauricio singled with one out and later in the inning stole second.

Catcher Francisco Alvarez then drove in Mauricio with a RBI single.

In the bottom of the third, LF Jeff McNeil singled and then Alonso followed with a two-run homer.

After a scoreless bottom of the fourth, McNeil led off the bottom of the fifth with a solo homer of his own.

In the bottom of the sixth, Alonso capped off his stellar day at the plate with his second homer, this time a solo shot for his 100th RBI of the season.

It's his third 40 homer season in his first five seasons as well as his third 100-RBI season.

RHP Tylor Megill started out well with three scoreless innings, but gave up back-to-back homers to DH Dominic Canzone and 1B Mike Ford in the top of the fourth.

Megill was able to get out of the top of the fifth with a double play and then got the first out in the top of the sixth was then taken out.

His final line was 5.1 innings, five hits, three runs, two walks and six strikeouts.

He picked up his fifth win.

LHP Brooks Raley followed and did a fine job with 1.2 scoreless innings.

RHP Trevor Gott came in next and threw a scoreless top of the eighth.

RHP Adam Ottavino closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth and picked up his eighth save.

The Mets are off tomorrow and return back to action on Tuesday, September 5 at the Washington Nationals at 7:05 p.m.

Mets Lose to Mariners 8-7 After Bullpen Struggles

 The New York Mets lost to the Seattle Mariners 8-7 tonight at Citi Field and dropped their record to 62-74.

LHP David Peterson started out well with a scoreless top of the first, but gave up a solo homer to DH Teoscar Hernandez in the top of the second.

In the top of the third, Peterson's struggles continued after he gave up a one-out single to SS JP Crawford and then a RBI triple to the following hitter CF Julio Rodriguez.

Peterson had a scoreless top of the fourth and in the top of fifth hit Crawford and was then taken out.

RHP Grant Hartwig came on and gave up a single to 3B Eugenio Suarez and then gave up a sacrifice fly to Crawford.

Hartwig stayed in for the top of the sixth and hit 1B Ty France and then gave up a two-run homer to pinch-hitter Dominic Canzone and was then taken out.

RHP Sean-Reid Foley came in and threw a scoreless top of the sixth.

RHP Phil Bickford followed and threw a scoreless top of the seventh.

RHP Trevor Gott threw a scoreless top of the eighth.

RHP Adam Ottavino came on in the top of the ninth and gave up a game-winning homer to Crawford.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first three innings until the bottom of the fourth after 1B Pete Alonso led off the inning with a single and then DH Daniel Vogelbach followed with a hit by pitch.

RF DJ Stewart came up next and once again came through this time with a three-run homer to tie the game.

In the bottom of the sixth, 3B Mark Vientos led off with a solo homer and then catcher Omar Narvaez followed with a walk.

Three batters later, SS Francisco Lindor delivered with a two-run homer.

In the bottom of the eighth, Lindor walked with two outs and then RF Jeff McNeil followed with a game-tying RBI triple.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Sunday, September 3 at home against the Mariners at 1:40 p.m.

Mets Beat Mariners 2-1 in Mauricio's Solid Debut

The New York Mets beat the Seattle Mariners 2-1 tonight at Citi Field for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 62-73.

After a scoreless bottom of the first, rookie 2B Ronnie Maurico hit a hard double that travled 117.3 miles per hour off the bat in his first career at-bat in the bottom of the second, but was unable to score after RHP Logan Gilbert retired the next three hitters 1-2-3.

The bats did not do much for the next three innings until the bottom of the sixth after CF Brandon Nimmo hit a game-tying solo homer.

In the bottom of the seventh, 3B Brett Baty and Maurico singled, but were not able to score.

In the bottom of the eighth, SS Francisco Lindor led off with a single and then later stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch.

Two batters later, DH Daniel Vogelbach came through with a game-winning RBI single.

RHP Kodai Senga had another stellar start allowing one run on five hits in seven innings.

Senga gave up two walks with 12 strikeouts and lowered his ERA to 3.08.

RHP Phil Bickford followed with a scoreless top of the eighth and picked up his fourth win.

RHP Drew Smith closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth and picked up his third save.
