Mets Lose to Phillies 3-0 After Zack Wheeler Throws a Dominating Complete Game Shutout

Phillies RHP Zack Wheeler (Photo Credits to Wendell Cruz-USA Today Sports) The New York Mets lost to the Phildelphia Phillies 3-0 in Phidelphia to get swept their three-game series and fourth consecutive loss overall and dropped their record to 56-55. RHP Tijuan Walker got off to a tough start in the bottom of the first inning afer he gave up solo homers to 2B Jean Segura and catcher J.T Realmuto. Walker settled down after that with scoreless innings in the bottom of the second, third, fourth and fifth. He gave up another solo homer to RF Bryce Harper in the bottom of the sixth and was taken out after the inning. His final line was 6 innings, 4 hits, 3 runs, 1 walk and 3 strikeouts. RHP Jeurys Familia followed with a scoreless bottom of the seventh. RHP Trevor May then threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth. The offense got off to a good start against former Met RHP Zack Wheeler after CF Brandon Nimmo led off with a double in the top of the first. The bats didn't much after that until RF Michael Conforto walked in the top of the eighth and was left stranded at first base. They managed only two hits and one walk against Wheeler who was in complete command all afternoon. Wheeler had 11 strikeouts and 1 walk. The Mets are off tomorrow and return to action on Tuesday, August 10th at home against the Washington Nationals at 7:10 p.m.

Javier Baez Leaves Game With Hip Tightness

Baez grounded out to second, but didn't make an effort to run to first base and grimaced after he swung and then walked into the dugout with manager Luis Rojas after taking a minute to exit batter's box. Baez was grabbing his lower back/hip area on the left side.

Mets Lose To Phillies 5-3 After Ninth Inning Rally Comes Up Short

Phillies LF Odubel Herrera (Photo Credits to Kyle Ross-USA Today Sports) The New York Mets lost to the Philadelphia Phillies 5-3 in Philadelphia for their third consecutive loss and dropped their record to 56-54 and now trail the Phillies by 1.5 games in the National League East standings. RHP Tylor Megill cruised through the first three innings with four strikeouts and worked out of a lead-off double by LF Odubel Herrea in the bottom of the fourth. Megill ran into trouble in the bottom of the fifth after he gave up a lead-off homer to 1B Brad Miller and then a double to the following hitter 3B Alec Bohm. Megill then walked CF Travis Janikowski and then retired pinch-hitter Nick Maton on a fly-out. Megills's struggles continued after he gave up a three-run homer to Herrea which broke the game open. Megill then gave up a single to 2B Jean Segura and was taken out. His final line was 4.2 innings, 5 hits, 4 runs, 1 walk and 5 strikeouts. RHP Miguel Castro gave on and retired catcher J.T. Realmuto on a pop-out to end the inning. RHP Drew Smith followed with a scoreless bottom of the sixth inning. RHP Yennsy Diaz then threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh. Diaz stayed in for the bottom of the eighth and gave up a solo homer to Miller, his second of the day. The offense didn't do much for the first eighth inningd, but finally came alive in the top of the ninth. RF Michael Conforto led off the inning with a solo homer and then 2B Jonathan Villar and catcher James McCann followed with solo homers of their own for back-to-back-to-back homers. LF Kevin Pillar kept the rally going with a single, but then pinch-hitter Jeff McNeil popped out to first and 1B Pete Alonso and 3B J.D. Davis struck out to end the game. The Mets next game is tomororw afternoon at the Phillies at 1:05 p.m.
