Mets Lose to Phillies 2-1 after offense struggles with runners in scoring position

Mets RHP Marcus Stroman (Credits to MetsMerizedOnline.com) The New York Mets lost to the Philadelphia Phillies 2-1 in Phialdelphia tonight for their third consecutive loss and dropped their record to 9-11. RHP Marcus Stroman had a scoreless bottom of the first inning, but ran into trouble in the bottom of the second inning after he gave up a two singles and a walk to load the bases and then struck out Phillies starter RHP Chase Anderson with two outs, but catcher James McCann committed a passed ball which lead to two runs. Stroman settled down after that striking out the side in the bottom of the third and two more strikeouts in the fourth. He had another scorless inning in the bottom of the fifth and then came out of the game with a hamstring injury. His final line was five innings, 3 hits, two runs, LHP Aaron Loup followed with a scoreless bottom of the sixth inning and two strikeouts. RHP Jeurys Familia came in next and worked out of a based loaded jam after he struck out LF Andrew McCutchen. RHP Miguel Castro threw a scorleess bottom of the eighth inning. The bats wasted several scoring opportunities in the first five innings, but finally came alive in the top of the sixth after 1B Pete Alonso singled and RF Michael Conforto walked and two batters later, LF Dominic Smith drove in Alonso with a RBI single. McCannn then grounded into a double play to end the inning. In the top of the eighth, 2B Jeff McNeil was hit by a pitch and 3B J.D. Davis was intentionally walked and then McNeil and Davis moved up to second and third after reliever RHP Jose Alvarado threw a wild pitch. Smith then came up and struck out to end the inning. CF Brandon Nimmo walked with two outs in the top of the ninth, but SS Francisco Lindor grounded out to end the inning. The offense went 1-14 with runners in scoring positon. The Mets next game is tomorrow night at the Phillies at 6:05 p.m.

Luis Guillorme Goes on IL

Mets infielder Luis Guillorme (Credits to MetsMerizedOnline.com) The New York Mets announced today that they have placed infieder Luis Guillorme on the 10-day injured list with a right oblique strain. Infielder Jose Peraza was recalled as corresponding roster move. Guillorme is hitting .333 with five walks in 14 games and five starts this year.

Mets Lose to Red Sox 1-0 and waste another stellar outing from Jacob deGrom

New York Mets RHP Jacob deGrom (Credits to Brad Penner-USA Today Sports) The New York Mets lost to the Boston Red Sox 1-0 at Citi Field tonight for their second consecutive loss and dropped their record under .500 at 9-10. RHP Jacob deGrom came out firing the top of the first inning with nine fastballs at 99, 100 and 101 mph. DeGrom gave up his lone run in the top of the second inning after he gave up doubles to SS Xander Bogaerts and catcher Christian Vasquez. He settled down after that and allowed two baserunners through the last four innings and was he taken out after the top of the sixth inning. His final line was 6 innings, 3 hits, one run, one walk and nine strikeouts. deGrom had his 58th strikeout in the top of the sixth inning which tied Nolan Ryan's Major League record for most strikeouts through his first five starts. It was also the 89th time in his career that he has allowed no more than one run in a start. LHP Aaron Loup came in next and threw a scoreless top of the seventh inning and was helped out by a double play to end the inning. RHP Trevor May followed with a scoreless top of the eighth and struck out the side. RHP Edwin Diaz threw a scoreless top of the ninth inning with two strikeouts. The offense had only two hits all night. They went 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. The Mets are off tomorrow and return to action on Friday, April 30th at the Philadelphia Phillies at 7:05 p.m..

Mets Lose to Red Sox 2-1 after offense struggles once again

Mets LHP David Peterson (Credits to Wendall Cruz-USA Today Sports) The New York Mets lost to the Boston Red Sox 2-1 tonight at Citi Field and dropped their record to 9-9. LHP Daid Peterson had a solid outing allowing two runs on four hits with two walks in six innings. Peterson gave up a solo homer to 1B Bobby Dalbec in the top of the third and in the top of the sixth, he gave up a double to CF Kike Hernandez and then a single to 3B Rafael Devers which brought in a run. RHP Jeurys Familia, RHP Trevor May and RHP Miguel Castro combined to throw threw scoreless innings in the top of the seventh, eighth and ninth. 2B Jeff McNeil drove in the only run of the game with a solo homer in the bottom of the second inning. The offense had seven hits and two of those hits were thrown out on the basepaths in the bottom of the fifth after catcher James McCann was thrown out at second base trying to stretch a single into a double and CF Kevin Pillar was thrown out on a caught stealing two batters later. They struck out 10 times against Red Sox starter RHP Garrett Richards and a total of 13 for the entire game. The Mets next game is tomorrow night at home against the Red Sox at 6:40 p.m.

Mets Beat The Nationals 4-0 behind strong defense and an impressive outing by Taijuan Walker

Mets RHP Taijuan Walker (Credits to MetsMerizedOnline.com) The New York Mets beat the Washington Nationals 4-0 this afternoon at Citi Field to take two out of three games in the series and improved their record to 9-8. The offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first inniing after 1B Pete Alonso walked with one out and then two batters later 3B J.D. Davis hit a two-run homer. Davis led off the bottom of the fourth inning with a single and then RF Michael Conforto folowed with a double to advance runners to second and third. Catcher James McCann then hit a RBI single to bring in Davis, but no more runs were able to score after CF Brandon Nimmo struck out with the based loaded and two out. Alonso led off the bottom of the fifth with a solo homer that went 439 feet to centerfield for his fifth homer of the season. RHP Taijuan Walker made his fourth start of the year and helped himself out in the top of the first after he picked off 2B Josh Harrison who led off the game with a single. Later in the first, he got SS Trea Turner to line out to right field and 1B Josh Bell to line out to second base to end the inning. Walker had an easy 1-2-3 top of the second inning on 13 pitches He was helped out by defense in the top of the third inning after CF Victor Robles was thrown out at third base trying to get a triple after two perfect relay throws by RF Michael Conforto and 2B Jonathan Villar. Walker walked Nationals LHP Patrick Corbin and gave up a single to LF Yadiel Hernandez, but got out of the inning after Turner flew out to right field. He settled into a groove after that with 1-2-3 innings in the top of the fourth and fifth innings. In the top of the sixth inning, Walker got into a jam after he walked Hernandez and gave up a single to Turner with one out, but was helped out by his defense once against after CF Albert Almora made an incrdible leaping catch with two outs to rob LF Kyle Schwarber of a two-run double. He finishd up his outstanding outing with a 1-2-3 top of the seventh and was taken out after the inning. His final line was 7 innings, 3 hits, 0 runs, 3 walks and 3 strikeouts. Walker picked up his first win of the year and lowered his ERA to 2.14. RHP Miguel Castro followed in the top of the eighth and gave up a lead-off single to pinch-hitter Andrew Stevenson and then struck out Harrison and gave up a single to Hernandez, but then came back to strike out pinch-hitter Ryan Zimmermann and Bell to get out of the jam and end the inning. RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the top of the ninth in a non-save situation and threw a 1-2-3 inning to close it out after Schwarber flew out to left, 3B Starlin Castro lined out to Almora and Alonso made a terrific diving stop to his ground to retire catcher Yan Gomes to end the inning. The Mets are off tomorrow and return to action on Tuesday, April 27th at home against the Boston Red Sox at 7:10 p.m.

Mets Lost to Nationals 7-1 after bats go quiet

Mets catcher James McCann (Credits to Brad Penner-USA Today Sports) The New York Mets lost to the Washington Nationals 7-1 at Citi Field this afternoon and dropped their record to 8-8. RHP Marcus Stroman gave up a lead-off single to 2B Josh Harrison in the top of the first and then RF Michael Conforto made an error which allowed Harrison to advance to third. Stroman then gave up a sacrifice fly to the following hitter LF Yadiel Hernandez. He had struggled with his command in the top of the second after giving up a couple of walks and then later allowing a single to Nationals starter RHP Joe Ross. Stroman's difficulities continued in the top of the third inning after he gave up singles to Hernandez and SS Trea Turner and then two batters later a RBI single by LF Kyle Scwarber and another RBI single to SS Starlin Castro. He gave up a RBI single to Hernandez in the top of the fourth and was taken out after the inning. His final line was 4 innings, 8 hits, 5 runs ( 4 earned runs), 2 walks and 4 strikeouts. LHP Stephen Tarpley came in next in the top of the fifth for his season debut and got into immediate trouble allowing two singles and a walk to load the bases. Tarpley hit catcher Alex Avilia with the bases loaded to bring in a run and was taken out. RHP Robert Gsellman had to come in the top of the fifth and had his outing out of the bullpen all year with three scoreless innings in the top of the fifh, sixth and seventh. Gsellman gave up no hits with one walk and two strikeouts. RHP Jacob Barnes threw a scoreless top of the eigth inning. RHP Jeurys Familia threw a scoreless top of the ninth inning. The offense struggled against Nationals starter RHP Joe Ross and had six hits all day. They went 0-3 with runners in scoring postion and left seven men on base. Conforto drove in the only run with a solo homer in the bottom of the fourth. The Mets next game is tomorrow at home against the Nationals at 1:10 p.m.

Mets Beat Nationals 6-0 Behind a Dominating Performance by Jacob deGrom

Mets RHP Jacob deGrom (Credits to MetsMerizedOnline.com) The New York Mets beat the Washington Nationals 6-0 tonight at Citi Field to snap their three-game losing streak and improved their record to 7-6. RHP Jacob deGrom was spectacular once again and started out well with a 1-2-3 top of the first inning with two strikeouts and two more in the second inning and worked around a single and a double in the top of the third inning and didn't allow any more hits the rest of the game. DeGrom retired the last 19 hitters he faced and was in complete command all night. He mixed in all of his pitches with a blazing fastball at 100 mph, sharp slider and change-up. DeGrom set a career-high with 15 strikeouts and has now struck out at least 14 hitters in his first three starts. He is the third pitcher in MLB history to accomplish that. It's the 49th time he has struck out at least 10 hitters in a game. Degrom set the MLB record for most strikeouts through his first four starts with 50. His final line was 9 innings, 0 runs, 2 hits, 9 walks and 15 strikeouts. He picked up his second win and lowered his ERA to 0.31. The offense was held scoreless for the first four innings until 3B J.D. Davis was hit-by a pitch with one out, 2B Jeff McNeil and deGrom helped out his own cause with a RBI double. Catcher Tomas Nido grounded out, but CF Brandon Nommo came up with the based loaded and two outs and delivered a two-run single. In the bottom of the seventh, Nimmo doubled with one out and two batters later, LF Dom Smith drove in Nimmo with a RBI single. In the bottom of the eighth, deGrom singled with one out for his second hit of the game and then two batters later Nimmo broke the game open wih a two-run homer for his third hit and fourth RBI of the game. Nimmo now has a batting average .408. The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon at home against the Nationals at 4:05 p.m.

Mets Lost to Cubs 4-3 in 10 innings due to lack of timely hitting

Mets first baseman Pete Alonso (Credits to Newsday.com) The New York Mets lost to the Chicago Cubs 4-3 tonight at Wrigley Field in Chicago to get swept in the three game series and dropped their record back to .500 at 7-7. LHP Joey Luchessi started out well with two scoreless innings, but it all fell apart for him in the bottom of the third. Luchessi gave up a walk to former Met CF Jake Marisnick with one out and then walked Cubs pitcher RHP Trevor Williams. He got LF Ian Happ to fly out for the second out, but then he gave up a RBI single to catcher Wilson Contreas that went off of his leg. Luchessi then gave up a two run double to 3B Kris Byrant to tie the game, but was able to retire 1B Anthony Rizzo on a grounder to keep the game tied and was taken out after the inning. His final line was 3 innings, 2 hits, 3 runs, 2 walks and 5 strikeouts. RHP Sean Reid-Foley came in next in the bottom of the first for his Met debut after the former Blue Jay was called up today and had a solid inning with a strikeout and two groundouts on 10 pitches. Reid-Foley stayed in for the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings and retired the side in both innings with three more strikeouts. He threw three scoreless innings with four strikeouts and no walks with a fastball at 93-94 mph with a slider and change-up. RHP Trevor May followed in the bottom of the seventh and worked around a lead-off pop-up single for SS Javier Baer and was able to get 3B Matt Duffy to ground into a double play and struck out 2B David Bote to end the inning. LHP Aaron Loup came in the bottom of the eighth and gave up a lead-off triple to Marisnick, but recoverd to strike out pinch-hitter Austin Romine and Happ. Loup was taken out for RHP Miguel Castro and Castro struck out Contreas to end the inning. RHP Edwin Diaz came in next in the bottom of the ninth and gave up a lead-off single to 3B Kris Bryant, but then struck out Rizzo and Baez. Catcher James McCann threw out Bryant trying to steal second for a caught stealing to end the inning. Diaz stayed in for the bottom of the tenth and hit Dufy leading off the inning and after a sacrifice bunt by Bonte, he gave up a walk-off single to pinch-hiiter Jason Heyward. The offense was held scoreless for the first three innings until the top of the fourth after LF Dom Smith led off with a double and 1B Pete Alonso followed with a two-run homer. The bats went quiet after that until the top of the seventh after 2B Jonathan Villar led off with a hit-by-pitch and two batters later, pinch-hitter J.D. Davis hit a RBI double which scored Villar from first. After a quiet next few innings, in the top of the tenth CF Kevin Pillar went to third on a wild pitch after he was on second to start the inning due to the extra inning rule. 2B Jeff McNeil struck out, but 3B Luis Guillorme and SS Fracisco Lindor walked to load the bases and bring up LF Dom Smith. Smith wasn't able to come through and grounded into a double play to end the inning. They went 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left 7 men on base. The Mets next game is tomorrow night back at home against the Washington Nationals at 7:10 p.m.

Mets Lose to Cubs 16-4 due to poor defense

Mets LHP David Peterson (Credits to David Banks-USA Today Sports) The New York Mets lost to the Chicago Cubs 16-4 tonight in Chicago at Wrigley Field for their second consecutive loss and dropped their record to 7-6. LHP David Peterson started out well with three scoreless innings, but it all unraveled for him in the bottom of the fourth. Peterson gave up three straight singles and then 3B J.D. Davis made a crucual error on a grounder that should have been an inning ending double play. Peterson then gave up a walk with the based loaded to bring in a run and then a bloop single to bring in another run and then two more runs crossed the plate as a result of a throwing error by RF Michael Conforto and was then taken out. His final line was 3.1 innings, 4 hits, 6 runs (3 earned runs), 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. RHP Robert Gsellman camee in next and gave up two runs on a RBI groundout and single as well as another run on a throwing error by SS Francisco Lindor on a wide throw to first base. Gsellman stayed in for the bottom of the fifth and gave up a lead-off double, a walk and a catcher interference which loaded the bases. He gave up a two-run single on a ground-ball that went on his leg instead of a groundball for a double play. Gsellman was then taken out. His final line was one inning, four hits, four runs and one walk. RHP Trevor Hildenberger had to come in the bottom of the fifth and gave up a RBI ground-out, but didn't allow any more runs in the inning. Hildenberger stayed in for the bottom of the sixth and loaded the bases and then gave up a grand slam to SS Javier Baez. He gave up another hit and hit by pitch after that and was then taken out. His final line was 1.1 innings, four hits, four runs, two earned runs, three walks and two strikeouts. LHP Aaron Loup had to come to get the last out in the bottom of the sixth. RHP Miguel Castro threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh. Infielder Luis Guillorme came in in the bottom of the eighth to help preserve the bullpen and gave up two runs on two singles and a double. The offense got off to a fast start after Lindor hit a solo homer in the top of the first. 2B Jeff McNeil led off the top of the second inning with a single and 1B Pete Alonso walked and then Davis late came through later in the inning with a RBI double. In the top of the fifth inning, Lindor led off with a single and Alonso followed with a two-run homer. The bats went quiet after that and were 1-5 with runners in scoring postion and left six men on base. The Mets next game is tomorrow night at the Cubs at 7:40 p.m.

Mets Lost to Cubs 3-1 after offense struggles with runners in scoring postion

Mets RHP Taijuan Walker (Credits to Kamil Krzaczynski-USA TODAY Sports) The New York Mets lost to the Chicago Cubs 3-1 tonight in Chicago at Wrigley Field and dropped their record to 7-5. RHP Taijuan Walker started out well with two scorless innings, but gave up an unearned run in the bottom of the third inning after 3B J.D. Davis made an error after he double-clutched a low throw to 1B Pete Alonso which caused a run to score. Walker got two quick outs in the bottom of the fourth inning, but gave up a single and stolen base to RF Jason Heyward that was challenged by the Mets but the play stood and then he allowed a RBI single to 2B Eric Sogard. He then gave up three straight walks including one with the bases loaded which brought home another run and was then taken out. His final line was 3.2 innings, 2 hits, 3 runs, 2 earned, 6 walks and 7 strikeouts. While Walker was coming off the field, he was ejected by home plate umpire John Libka for arguing balls and strikes. RHP Robert Gsellman came in next and struck out 1B Anthony Rizzo to end the inning. RHP Jacob Barnes followed with two scorless innings in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings. RHP Jeurys Familia threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning. RHP Trevor May followed with a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning. Davis drove in the only run of the game with a solo homer in the top of the fifth inning. They had six hits in total and went 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base. Mets Beat Rockies 2-1 to take series behind an outstanding start by Marcus Stroman

Mets RHP Marcus Stroman (Credits to J Downing-USA Today Sports) The New York Mets beat the Colorado Rockies 2-1 this afternoon in Colorado to take two out of three games in the series and improved their record to 7-4. In the top of the second inning, 1B Pete Alonso led off with a single against Rockies starter RHP Antonio Senzatela and then RF Michael Conforto followed with a double. 2B Jeff McNeil then hit a RBI ground-out to bring in Alonso. In the top of the fourth, Conforto singked with two outs, his second hit of the day and then McNeil reached on an error by 1B C.J. Cron. 3B J.D. Davis then came through with an RBI single, his first RBI of the season. The bats went quiet after that and weren't abel to score any more runs and capitalize with men on base. RHP Marcus Stroman started out well with a seven pitch bottom of the first inning and induced a double play by 2B Ryan McMahon. He had a quick bottom of the second inning with 11 pitches. Stroman worked out a walk and bunt single by Senzatela in the bottom of the third inning and didn't allow any runs. He was helped out by his defense in the bottom of the fourth after 2B Jeff McNeil made a diving play to rob McMahon and then Nimmo robbed 3B Trevor Story of an extra base and Alonso fielded a ground-ball by RF Charlie Blackmon. Stroman continued his successs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth with 1-2-3 innings. He ran into some trouble in the bottom of the seventh after Story doubled and Blackmon drove in Story with a RBI single, but he came back to strike out to 1B C.J. Cron and 3B Josh Fuentes to end the inning. Stroman stayed in for the bottom of the eighth and had a flashy first out after he caught a comebacker back to the mound behind his bag and threw to first on a seven hopper for the first out of the inning. He struck out catcher Dom Nunez and pinch-hitter Yonathan Diaz and was taken out after the inning. His final line was 8 innings, 3 hits, one run, one walk and five strikeouts. He picked up his third win and lowered his ERA to 0.89. RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the bottom of the ninth inning and got LF Ramiel Tapa to line out and a fly out by McMahon. Mets Rally to Beat Rockies 4--3 and give Jacob DeGrom his first win

Mets RHP Jacob deGrom (Credits to CBS Sports Getty Images) The New York Mets beat the Colorado Rockies 4-3 in Colorado this afternoon in the first game of a doubleheader for their fourth consecutive win and improved their record to 6-3. The offense struggled for the first two innings and wasted lead-off singles. In the top of the third inning, RHP Jacob deGrom led off with a single, CF Brandon Nimmo sacrificed DeGrom to second, SS Francisco Lindor grounded out to second, but then with two outs, LF Dom Smith walked and 1B Pete Alonso drove in the first run with an RBI single. The bats went quiet for the next three innings and wasted another scoring chance in the top fourth, but then came alive in the top of the seventh. In the top of the seventh, McCann led off with a single and then pinch-hitter Jonathan Villar followed with a RBI double to bring in McCann which tied the game. Nimmo then hit an infield hit an infield single and Lindor delivered with an RBI single for the go-ahead run. RHP Jacob deGrom was oustanding once again and dominated for the first four innings and one point struck out nine Rockies hitters in a row. deGrom is the ninth pitcher in baseball history to strike out at least nine consecutive batters. He was let down by his defense after 2B Jeff McNeil made an error to start the inning and then RF Michael Conforto later misplayed a fly ball which led to a triple. DeGrom gave up three unearned runs in the inning, but was able to recover after that and didn't allow any more runs aftert that and stayed in for two more innings. He started out slow early in the first inning, but then he started to find his rhythm and he was dialing his fastball up to 100-101 mph. His final line was 6 innings, 3 runs (0 earned), 1 walk and 14 strikeouts. He got his first win of the year and lowered his ERA to 0.45. RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the bottom of the seventh and dominated in the inning and proceeded to strike out the side on 13 pitches. Diaz picked up his first save of the year. The Mets next game is tonight at the Rockies at 8:25 p.m.

This game will be made up tomorrow as part of a doubleheader beginning at 5:10 p.m. The second game will start about 30 minutes after the first game ends. This is the seventh game that the Mets have had postponed so far this year.

Mets-Phillies Game Postponed

Today's Mets-Phillies afternoon game at Citi Field has been postponed due to rain. The game will now be part of a single admission doubleheader on June 25th. The first game will start at 4:10 p.m. and the second game will begin about 30 minutes after the first game. RHP Jacob deGrom is now scheduled to start tomorrow night at the Colorado Rockies at 8:40 followed by LHP Joey Lucchesi on Saturday and then RHP Marcus Stroman will start in the final game of the series on Sunday. The Mets have only played seven out of their 13 scheduled games to start the 2021 season.

Mets Beat Phillies 5-1 due to pitching by David Peterson and timely hitting

Mets RHP Edwin Diaz (Credits to Brad Penner-USA Today Sports The New York Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies 5-1 tonight for their third consecutive win and improved their record to 5-3. The offense got off to a fast start against Phillies starter former Met RHP Zack Wheeler after CF Brandon Nimmo led off with a single and then SS Francisco Lindor followed with a single. 1B Dom Smith then came up and drove in Nimmo for the first run of the game with a RBI single. 1B Pete Alonso followed by grounding into a double play, but he was still to bring in Lindor for the second run of the inning. The bats went quiet after that for the next few innings until the bottom of the seventh after Lindor and Smith singled and then Alonso hit a sacrifice fly. In the bottom of the eighth inning, RF Michael Conforto led off the inning with a hit-by-pitch and then catcher James McCann broke the game open with a two-run homer, his first as a Met. LHP David Peterson made his second start of the season and had an outstanding outing after he struggled in the bottom of the first inning in his last start against the Phillies. Peterson gave up one run on two hits in six innings with 10 strikeouts. He didn't allow a hit until the top of the fifth on a solo homer by SS Jean Segura. The only other hit he allowed was a single to 1B Rhys Hoskins in the top of the sixth. It was the second time in his career that he had double-digit strikeouts in a game after he had 10 against the Atlanta Braves on September 19, 2020. Peterson was throwing much harder than in his first start around 93-94 mph on his fastball and also mixed in his offspeed stuff well on his change-up and slider. If he can maintain this kind of command, he will the potential to win 10-15 games this year. RHP Jeurys Familia followed in the top of the seventh and got into immediate trouble after he gave up a lead-off walk to catcher J.T. Realmuto and then a single to Segura and was taken out. LHP Aaron Loup came in with first and third and one out, but was able to get out of the jam after he got SS Didi Gregarious to ground out into a 6-4-3 double play. Loup stayed in for the top of the eighth and had a 1-2-3 inning with back-to-back strikeouts to end the inning. RHP Edwin Diaz appeared in the top of the ninth and threw a 1-2-3 inning with two strikeouts to close out the game. The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon at home against the Phillies at 12:10 p.m.

Mets beat Phillies 4-0 to sweep doubleheader behind a dominating performance by Marcus Stroman

Mets RHP Marcus Stroman (Credits to MetsMerizedOnline.com) The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 4-0 tonight to sweep the doubleheader and improved the record to 4-3. RHP Marcus Stroman had another terrific outing and he cruised through the first three innings and he faced the minimum of 12 batters through four helped out by a double play by Phillies RF Bryce Harper. Stroman worked out around two hits in the top of the fifth and one in the sixth without giving up a run. He was taken out after the bottom of the sixth since he drew a walk and was on the bases for about 10 minutes. His final line was six innings, four hits, 0 walks and five strikeouts. He improved his record to 2-0 and lowered his ERA to 0.75. Storman kept the hitters off balanced wih his sharp change-up and slider. He had pinpoint command and worked both sides of the plate which helped induce ground-outs for a couple of double plays. Hopefully he can build off this. RHP Jeurys Familia came on in the top of the seventh and gave up a couple of singles, but he was able to close it out. The offense was held scoreless for the first three innings against Phillies ace RHP Aaron Nola until with the bottom of fourth after 2B Jeff McNeil reached on an infield single with one out, RF Kevin Pillar singled and 3B Jonathan Villar hit a RBI double to bring in McNeil. Catcher Tomas Nido was hit-by-a pitch and Stroman struck out, but CF Brandon Nimmo came up with the based loaded and two out and broke the game open with a two-run single. In the bottom of the sixth, Nido tripled with one out, Stroman walked and then Nimmo hit an infield hit to drive in his third RBI and third hit of the game. Nimmo is now hitting .435 with a 1.146 OPS so far this year. The Mets next game is tomorrow night at home against the Phillies at 7:10 p.m.

Mets Infielder Jonathan Villar (Credits to MetsMerizedOnline.com) The New York Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies 4-3 in Game 1 of a split doubleheader in eight innings and improved their record to 3-3. RHP Taijuan Walker made his second start allowed one run on three hits with eight strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings. RHP Miguel Castro came on in the top of the fifth and struck out CF Andrew McCutchen and then third baseman tagged CF Roman Quinn who overslid third base to end the inning. Castro stayed in for the top of the sixth and gave up an infield hit to SS Jean Segura with two outs which tied the game. RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the top of the seventh and threw a scoreless 1-2-3 inning with a strikeout. RHP Trevor May followed in the top of the eighth with a runner on second due to new extra inning rules and had a strikeout and then walked RF Bryce Harper intentioally to set up a double play. May got 3B Alec Bohm to pop out, but then catcher James McCann committed a passed ball which put the go-ahead run on third. SS Didi Greagrious hit a slow roller infield grounder which brought in a run. The offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first inning after CF Brandon Nimmo led off with a walk and two batters later, LF Dom Smith hit a two-run homer. The bats went quiet after that for the next seven innings until the bottom of the eighth after 1B Pete Alonso hit a game-tying RBI single. 2B Jeff McNeil and RF Michael Conforto followed with a fielders choice and walk and then McCann hit a infield single to load the bases. Pinch-hitter Jonathan Villar then came through with a walk-off single. The Mets have another game tonight against the Phillies and will try to sweep the doubleheader.

Mets-Phillies game postponed with doubleheader scheduled for Tuesday

Tonight's Mets-Phillies game has been postponed due to rain. The game will be made up tomorrow afternoon as a part of a single-admission doubleheader. The first game will begin at 4:10 p.m. and both games will be seven innings. This comes the day after the Mets had their series finale with the Marlins suspended due to rain after only three batters in the top of the first inning. The Mets have now played five of their ten scheduled games to start the season.

Mets Waste Another Dominant Outing from Jacob DeGrom and lost 3-0 to Marlins

Mets RHP Jacob deGrom (Credits to Andy Marlin-USA Today Sports) The New York Mets lost to the Miami Marlins 3-0 today at home at Citi Field and dropped their record to 2-3. RHP Jacob deGrom had another spectacular outing allowine one run on five hits in eight innings with no walks and tied a career-high with 14 strikeouts. The only run that DeGrom allowed was a solo homer to 2B Jazz Chisholm Jr in the top of the second inning. He averaged at least two strikeouts every inning expect for the third and eighth innings where he had one strikeout in those innings. It was the second time in MLB history that a starting pitching had at least 14 strikeouts, one run and no walks in a game and prior to DeGrom it was accomplished by James Sheids in 2012 against the Orioles. RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the top of the ninth inning and had a difficult outing allowing two runs on three hits and retired only two hitters. Diaz gave up a double to CF Starling Marte and then RBI singles to 1B Jesus Aguilar and SS Miguel Rojas. RHP Jeurys Familia had to come on to get the last out in the top of the ninth. The offense was quiet against Marlins starter LHP Trevor Rogers. They had only three hits all day, a double by CF Brandon Nimmo in the bottom of the first inning, single by LF Dom Smith in the bottom of the fifth and a single by DeGrom in the bottom of the sixth and all those hits led off the inning, but they weren't able to capitalize and score. The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon at home against the Marlins at 1:10 p.m.

J.D. Davis Goes On IL

Mets third baseman J.D. Davis (Credits to USA Today Sports) New York Mets 3B J.D. Davis has been placed on the I.L. (Injured List) with a hand contusion after he was hit by a pitch. Starting pitcher former prospect RHP Franklin Kilome was desiginated for assignment as a corresponding roster move. Kilome was acquired from the Phillies in 2018 for Astrubal Cabrera. Kilome had Tommy John Surgery after he pitched in the minor leagues for the Binghamton Rumble Ponies in 2018. He came back to pitch four games for the Mets in 2020 and alllowed 14 runs in 11 1/3 innings.

Mets Beat Marlins 3-2 on controversial hit-by-pitch to Michael Conforto in ninth inning

< Mets Starter RHP Taijuan Walker (Credits to MetsMerizedOnline.com) The New York Mets beat the Miami Marlins 3-2 this afternoon on the homer opener and improved their record to 2-2 on the season. RHP Taijuan Walker had a strong outing and didn't allow a hit for the first four innings until the top of the fifth after he gave a single to 3B Brian Anderson, but didn't any runs. Walker ran into the trouble in the top of the sixth after he gave a lead-off single to 2B Jon Berti and an RBI double to LF Corey Dickerson which tied the game and he was taken out after the inning. Walker's final line was six innings, four hits, two runs, two walsk and four strikeouts. He threw as hard as 97 mph on his fastball and averaged 95.4 on his fastball. Walker threw 30 pitches at 95 mph or more, which was the most he's thrown since 2017. RHP Migeuk Castro came in next and threw a scoreless top of the seventh inning in 10 pitches. RHP Trevor May followed with a scoreless top of the eighth with one hit and one strikeout. RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the top of the ninth and had a solid first outing of the year with a scorless frame and had a walk with one strikeout. . The offense struggled to get a timely hit through the first four innings with runners on base and was 0-5 with RISP. In the bottom of the fifth with one out, SS Francisco Lindor singled, RF Michael Conforo was hit-by-pitch abd 1B Pete Alonso walked to load the bases. LF Dom Smith came up and was robbed of an extra base hit due to an incredible catch by Marlins CF Starling Marte, but it was still good enough for a sacrifice fly to bring home Lindor. The bats went quiet for the next few innings until the bottom of the ninth when 2B Jeff McNeil led off on a game-tying home run on his 29th birthday. Catcher James McCann followed with a strikeout, but then pinch-hitter Luis Guillorme singled and CF Brandon Nimmo doubled which moved Guilorme to third. Lindor was then walked intentionally to load the bases and Conforto came up and was down 1-2 in the count and appeared to stike out, but instead the home plate umpire Ron Culpa ruled pitch hit Conforto's elbow pad and the umpires reviewed the play, they upheld the call which brought in the winning run. Marlins manager Don Mattingly argued the call and Mattingly argued that the umpires could review whether the ball hit Conforto or not. The umpires said that ther wasn't enough for them to overturn the call. The Mets have an off day tomorrow and return to action on Saturday, April 10 at 1:10 p.m. against the Marlins.

Mets Lose to Phillies 8-2 in finale of first series and struggle with RISP

Mets LHP David Peterson (Credits to Bill Streicher- USA Today Sports The New York Mets lost to the Philadelphia Phillies 8-2 this afternoon to lose two out of three games in their first series of the year and dropped their record to 1-2. LHP David Peterson had a rough outing with a difficult in the bottom of the first inning after he gave up a solo homer to 1B Rhys Hoskins and then walked RF Bryce Harper, gave up a single to catcher J.T. Realmuto and then a three-run homer to 3B Alex Bohm. Peterson was able to settle down after that and threw scoreless innings in the bottom of the second, third and fourth innings. He gave up a lead-off double to Hoskins in the bottom of the fifth and a bunt single to Harper and was then taken out. Peterson's final line was 4.0 innings, seven hits, six runs, two walks and five strikeouts. RHP Jacob Barnes came in next for his first Met appearance and gave up a three-run homer to Realmuto, but didn't allow any more runs after that. RHP Dellin Betances followed in the bottom of the sixth and had problems with his command after he gave up a walk and a hit-by-pitch which led to a run. LHP Joey Lucchesi appeared next and did a terrific job and threw two scoreless innings allowing one hit with three strikeouts. The offense struggled all day with men on base and couldn't get a timely hit. They were 1-12 with runners in scoring position and left 14 men on base. 1B Pete Alonso drove in a run with an RBI single in the top of the third inning and 2B Jonathan Villar tripled and scored on a wild pitch in the top of the seventh. The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon in their home opener at Citi Field against the Miami Marlins at 1:10 p.m.

Mets beat the Phillies 8-4 for first win of season behind strong pitching by Marcus Stroman

Mets RHP Marcus Stroman (Credits to USA-Today Sports) The New York Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies 8-4 tonight in Philadelphia for their first win of the season and improved their record to 1-1 on the season. The offense went scoreless for the first three innings until the top of the fourth after 1B Pete Alonso led off the inning with a walk and LF Dom Smith followed with a two-run homer to the opposite field. The bats went quiet for the next two innings, but then in the top of the seventh 3B Luis Guillorme led off with a walk and then two batters later catcher James McCann walked. Pinch-hitter Kevin Pillar also walked to load the bases and then CF Brandon Nimmo drew a walk to bring in a run. SS Francisco Lindor followed with a sacrifice fly and then Pillar and Nimmo executed a perfect double steal which helped Pillar steal home. RF Michael Conforto capped off the inning with a RBI double. In the top of the ninth inning, Nimmo led off with a walk his third of the game and then with two outs, 1B Pete Alonso broke the game open with a two-run homer. RHP Marcus Stroman had a fine outing allowing one run on three hits in six innings. Stroman gave up two walks and had three strikeouts. He had a sharp sinker which helped him keep the ball down. Stroman was able to get 13 out of 18 hits on ground balls. RHP Miguel Castro followed and strated out well with two strikeouts, but then gave up a double to pinch-hitter Adam Haseley and a RBI single to pinch-hitter Rhys Hoskins.. Castro was able to settl down and managed to recover and get RF Bryce Harper to fly out to end the inning. RHP Trevor May came in next and gave up a single and two passed balls, but was able to out of the inning after he struck catcher J.T. Realmuto and 1B Brad Miller. RHP Jeurys Familia came on in the bottom of the ninth inning for his first appearance of the year and gave up two soft hits that went for a single and double and a throwing error by Alonso led to one run. Familia then struck out pinch-hitter Andrew McCutchen and walked Harper and then Realmuto grounded into a fielder's choice which brought home a run, but SS Didi Gregarious grounded out to end the game. Injury News Mets third baseman J.D. Davis led the game after he was hit on the hand by the pitch in the second inning and had to leave the game. Fortunateky, X-rays were negative. The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon at the Phillies at 4:05 p.m.

Mets Lose to Phillies 5-2 on Opening Day after bullpen blows lead in the eighth

Mets RHP Jacob deGrom (Credits to NYPost.com) The New York Mets lost to the Philadelphia Phillies 5-2 tonight in Philadelphia on Opening Day and dropped their record to 0-1. RHP Jacob deGrom had another outstanding start with six scoreless innings and was taken out after the bottom of the sixth with 77 pitches since he was on a pitch counrt for his first start. deGrom gave up three hits and two walks with seven strikeouts. He was relying on a lot on his fastball and throwing hard at 100-101 mph. It's a shame that deGrom can't get a win no matter if it's the bullpen or lack of run support. He deserves better and will hopefully get some wins this year over the course of the season. RHP Miguel Casto came in next in the bottom of the seventh and threw a scoreless innings, but it all unraveled for reliever RHP Trevor May in the bottom of the eighth. May started out well striking out centerfield Adam Haseley, but then gave up a single to pinch-hitter Brad Miller, walked LF Andrew McCutchen, and then a single to 1B to Rhys Hoskins which loaded the bases. May was then pulled for LHP Aaron Loup and then Loup got into immediate trouble and hit RF Bryce Harper which brought in a run. He then allowed a RBI single to catcher J.T. Realmuto to tie the game. Loup was able to get the next batter 3B Alec Bohm to hit a ground-ball to 3B Luis Guillorme, but Guillorme made a throwing error at home plate which scored Harper and Hoskins. Loun then gave up a sacrifice fly to SS Didi Gregarious before finally getting out of the inning. The offense was held scoreless for the first three innings until the top of the fourth after 1B Pete Alonso and 3B J.D. Davis walked and two batters later, catcher James McCann drove in a run with an RBI single. LF Brandon Nimmo followed with a single to load the bases and then deGrom helped out his own cause with a RBI single. CF Kevin Pillar then grounded into a double play to end the inning and cut the rally short. The bats went quiet after that and they didn't do much until the top of the ninth after Pillar and SS Francisco Lindor singled with two outs and then RF Michael Conforto drove in Pillar with a RBI single. Alonso came up and just missed a three-run homer and flew out at the warning track in right field for the last out of the game. The Mets next game is tomorrow night at the Phillies at 7:05 p.m.

Mets-Nationals Series Postponed

The Mets-Nationals opening series has been postponed since Major League Baseball is contining to do contract tracing and more testing. Nationals GM Mike Rizzo said yesterday that three players tested positive for COVID-19 and is there likely another positive test. The Mets are now going to start the season in Philadelphia against the Phillies on Monday night at 7:05 p.m.

Olney also reported the game will not be made up tomorrow. It is unknown yet at this time when this game will be made-up or if the entire series will be canceled.
