Mets Lose To Twins 8-4 After Bullpen Struggles Contunue

 The New York Mets lost to the Minnesota Twins 8-4 today at Target Field for their third consecutive loss and dropped their record to 64-77.

LHP David Peterson started out well with a scoreless bottom of the first, but gave a two-run double to CF Will Castro.

Peterson gave up a RBI single to 3B Kyle Farmer in the bottom of the third, but settled down after that.

Peterson had scoreless innings in the bottom of the fourth, fifth and sixth and was taken out after the inning.

His final line was six innings, eight hits, three runs, one walk and eight strikeouts.

RHP Drew Smith came in next in the bottom of the seventh and gave up a three-run triple to pinch-hitter Max Kepler.

Smith then gave up a RBI double to Farmer and was taken out.

RHP Jeff Brigham came on and gave up a solo homer to CF Willi Castro.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first after CF Brandon Nimmo led off with a homer.

LF Jeff McNeil followed with a single and then three batters later, DH Daniel Vogelbach hit a RBI single.

The Met offense did not do much for the next six innings until the top of the eighth after 1B Pete Alonso hit a solo homer for his 43th homer of the season and three batters later, RF DJ Stewart hit a solo homer.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Sunday, September 10 at the Twins at 2:10 p.m.

Mets Lose To Twins 5-2 And Waste Senga Start

The New York Mets lost to the Minnesota Twins 5-2 tonight at Target Field for their second consecutive loss and dropped their record to 64-76.

RHP Kodai Senga had another solid start allowing two runs on four hits in six innings.

Senga gave up four walks with five strikeouts and lowered his ERA to 3.07

RHP Sean-Reid Foley came in next in the bottom of the seventh and was let down by his defense after catcher Francisco Alvarez made a throwing error on a caught stealing attempt which allowed a run to score.

Later in the inning, Reid-Foley gave up a RBI single to 3B Royce Lewis and RF Max Kepler and was then taken out.

RHP Grant Hartwig had to come in to get the last out in the bottom of the seventh.

RHP Sam Coonrod threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

The Met offense did not do much outside of a two-run double by SS Francisco Lindor in the top of the fourth.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon,  Saturday, September 9 at the Twins at 2:10 p.m.

Mets Lose to Nationals 3-2 After Bullpen Blows Lead

 The New York Mets lost to the Washington Nationals 3-2 tonight at Nationals Park to snap their two-game winning streak and dropped their record to 64-75.

The Met offense got on the board immediately in the top of the first after CF Brandon Nimmo led off with a double and then SS Francisco Lindor followed with a RBI single.

The bats did not do much for next three innings until the top of the fifth after Lindor led off with a double and then four batters later, DH Mark Vientos came through with a RBI single.

The Met offense was unable to score after that and wasted several scoring opportunities.

They had scoring chances in the top of the first, second, third, fifth and sixth but were unable to capitalize and went 2-12 with runners in scoring position.

RHP Jose Butto had a strong start and left the bottom of the sixth with a 2-0 lead.

RHP Trevor Gott came in next and gave up two inherited runs charged to Butto on RBI singles by pinch-hitter Ildemaro Vargas and SS CJ Abrams.

Butto's final line was 6.1 innings, six hits, two runs, one walk and six strikeouts.

Gott picked up the last two outs in the bottom of the seventh.

LHP Brooks Raley threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

RHP Phil Bickford came on in the bottom of the ninth and got into immediate trouble after he walked 3B Carter Kieboom and then hit 2B Jake Alu.

After a sacrifice bunt, Bickford gave up a walk-off single to CF Jacob Young.

The Mets are off tomorrow and return back to action on Friday, September 8 at the Minnesota Twins at 8:10 p.m.
