Mets Beat Brewers 4-2 After Rally In Seventh Inning

Mets RHP Tylor Megill (Photo Credits to Brad Penner-USA Today Sports) The New York Mets beat the Milwaukee Brewers 4-2 tonight at Citi Field and improved their record to 44-37. The offense was held scoreless for the first three innings against RHP Brandon Woodruff until the bottom of the fourth after CF Brandon Nimmo led off with a double and then SS Francisco Lindor moved him over to third with a sacrifice bunt. LF Dominic Smith then drove in Nimmo with a sacrifice fly. The bats went quiet for the next couple of innings until the bottom of the seventh after Lindor led off with a walk, Smith followed with a single and 1B Pete Alonso delivered with a two-run double. 2B Jeff McNeil grounded out to second which moved Alonso to third and then RF Michael Conforto hit a RBI single which knocked Woodruff out of the game. RHP Tylor Megill worked out of trouble in the top of the first inning after he gave up a couple of baserunners to throw a scoreless inning. Megill gave up a lead-off walk in the top of the second inning, but settled down after that in the inning and then threw a scoreless top of the third. He gave up a solo homer to catcher Omar Navarez in the top of the fourth, but was able to recover and regroup and didn't allow any more runs in the inning. Megill stayed in for the top of the fifth and threw a scoreless inning and was taken out. His final line was 5 innings, 2 hits, one run, two walks and seven strikeouts. He showed his composure once again and didn't get rattled with men on base in only his third career Major League start. Megill had a lot of life of his fastball and great command of his change-up and overcome his lack of command with his slider. LHP Aaron Loup followed with a 1-2-3 top of the sixth inning. RHP Seth Lugo threw a scoreless top of the seventh inning with two strikeouts and picked up his second win. RHP Trevor May threw a scoreless top of the eighth inning. He has 10 staight scoreless appearances and lowered his ERA to 3.13. RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the top of the ninth inning and got into immediate trouble after he gave up a single to SS Willy Adames and walked Navarez and then a RBI single to RF Tyrone Taylor, but was able to settle down after striking out 2B Jace Peterson and 1B Keston Hiura and retired CF Jackie Bradley Jr on a fly-out to close it out. Diaz picked up his 18th save. The Mets next game is tomorrow night at home against the Brewers at 7:10 p.m.

Mets Lose To Yankees 4-2 In Second Game Of Doubleheader After Offense Struggles

Mets CF Brandon Nimmo (Photo Credits to MetsMerizedOnline.com) The New York Mets lost to the New York Yankees 4-2 at Yankee Stadium in the second game of a day-night doubleheader and dropped their record to 43-37, but were still able to take two out of three games in the series RHP Corey Oswalt had a scoreless bottom of the first inning, but ran into trouble in the bottom of the second after 1B Luke Volt led off with a double, 2B Roughned Odor followed with a bunt single and SS Gio Urshela came through with a three-run home to right field. Oswalt settled down after that with scoreless innings in the bottom of the third and fourth innings and was then taken out. His final line was 4 innings, 4 hits, 3 runs, 1 walk and 4 strikeouts. LHP Aaron Loup came in next and retired LF Miguel Andujar on a ground-out to start the inning, but then walked the next two hitters he faced and was taken out. RHP Miguel Castro followed and got RF Aaron Judge to ground-out, but then threw a wild pitch facing catcher Gary Sanchez which brought in a run and came back to strike out Sanchez to end the inning. RHP Trevor May had a 1-2-3 bottom of the seventh inning. The offense struggled against Yankees starter RHP Nestor Cortes for the first three innings, but in the top of the third, LF Dom Smith doubled with one out which knocked Cortes out of the inning. 1B Pete Alonso followed with a two-run homer, his second of the doubleheader. The bats didn't do much else after that. The Mets next game is back home tomorrow night at Citi Field against the Milwaukee Brewers at 7:10 p.m.

Jacob deGrom Named To All-Star Team

Mets RHP Jacob deGrom (Photo Credits to MetsMerizedOnline.com) New York Mets RHP Jacob Degrom was announced as the only Met to make the National All-Star team Sunday. It's deGrom fourth All-Star game appearance. He has another spectaclar season with a 0.95 ERA over 85 innings in 14 starts. DeGrom also has 136 strikeouts. He is scheduled to have two more starts before the All-Star break on Tuesday against the Brewers and Sunday two days before the All-Star game against the Pirates. deGrom has said he won't pitch in the All-Star game since he is pitching Sunday, so it could leave open a spot for Mets starting pitcher RHP Taijuan Walker who should have made as well as Marcus Stroman and Edwin Diaz.

Mets Rally To Beat Yankees 10-5 With Six Run Seventh Inning

Mets LF Dom Smith (Photo Credits to MetsMerizedOnline.com) The New York Mets beat the New York Yankees 10-5 this afternoon at Yankee Stadium in the first game of a doubleheader and improved their record to 43-36. The offense got off to a fast start in the first inning against RHP Gerrit Cole after LF Dom Smith hit a solo homer. The bats went quiet for the next two innings until the top of the fourth after RF Michael Conforto walked, 2B Jeff McNeil singled and LF Billy McKinney walked to load the bases. Catcher Tomas Nido then singled to bring in a run and after 3B Luis Guillorme struck out and then CF Brandon Nimmo hit a RBI single. SS Francisco Lindor followed with a single, but Nimmo was thrown out by RF Aaron Judge trying to make a wide turn past second. Smith then walked to load the bases, but 1B Pete Alonso grounded out back to the pitcher to end the inning. After a scoreless top of the sixth inning, Alonso led off the top of the seventh with a solo homer to tie the game against closer Aroldis Chapman. Conforto then was hit by a pitch and McNeil walked and then Chapman was taken out. Pinch-hitter Kevin Pillar then singled to load the bases for catcher James McCann. McCann struck out, but pinch-hitter Jose Peraza hit a ball to the left-field corner that was a caught by a Met fan leaning over the fence and the umpires ruled it a double. Nimmo then broke the game open with a two-run single and Lindor followed with a RBI single. RHP Marcus Stroman started out well with a scoreless bottom of the first inning, but ran into trouble in the bottom of the second after DH Giancarlo Stanton led off with a single and then 3B Gio Ursela reached on a fielding error by Lindor on what should have been a routine double play. SS Gleyber Torres then grounded into a force out which moved the runners to the corners and CF Brett Gardner was hit by a pitch which loaded the bases. Catcher Kyle Higashioka followed with a two-run double and LF Tim Locastro then hit a sacrifice fly. In the next inning, Judge and 1B Luke Volt singled and than Stanton grounded out into a double play which brought home a run. In the bottom of the fifth, Stroman gave up singles to 3B D.J. LeMahieu and Judge and then Stroman later gave a run on a wild pitch before getting two fly outs to end the innings and was taken out. His final line was 5 innings, 6 hits, 5 runs, 3 earned runs, 1 walk and no strikeouts. RHP Jeurys Familia followed with a scoreless bottom of the sixth inning. RHP Seth Lugo closed it out with a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning. The Mets next game is tonight at 7:10 p.m. in the second game of a doubleheader.
