RHP Jonah Tong walked two out of the first four hitters he faced in between two outs, but then it all fell apart.
Tong gave up a RBI single to 3B Josh Jung and than another RBI single to the following hitter RF Alejandro Osuna.
Tong then walked catcher Jonah Heim and gave up a two-run single to 2B Cody Freeman and then a two-run double to Michael Helman and was then taken out.
Tong's final line was 0.2 innings, four hits, six runs, three walks and one strikeout.
RHP Huascar Brazoban followed with 3.1 scoreless innings.
RHP Ryne Stanek came in next and threw 1.2 scoreless innings.
LHP Gregory Soto followed and gave up a two-run homer to pinch-hitter Dylan Moore in the top of the seventh.
RHP Reed Garrett threw a scoreless top of the eighth.
RHP Ryne Stanek threw a scoreless top of the ninth.
The Met offense was held scoreless for the first two innings against former Met great RHP Jacob deGrom until the bottom of the third after catcher Francisco Alvarez led off with a homer and then CF Cedric Mullins followed with a single. SS Francisco Lindor then hit a double and RF Juan Soto and 1B Pete Alonso followed with sacrifice flies.
The offense did not do much after that after deGrom settled down and retired the last 13 hitters he faced and had only out the rest of the way in the bottom of the eighth.
The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Saturday, September 13 at home against the Rangers at 4:10 p.m.
