LHP Sean Manaea retired the first two hitters he faced in the bottom of the first and then gave up a two-out single to 1B Bryce Harper. hit catcher J.T Realmuto and then gave up a two-run double to RF Nick Castellanos.
Manaea's struggles continued in the bottom of the second after he gave up back-to-back homers to 3B Otto Kemp and CF Harrison Bader.
Manaea was able to settle down after that and throw scoreless innings in the bottom of the third, fourth and fifth innings and was then taken out.
His final line was five innings, five hits, four runs, one walk and five strikeouts.
RHP Justin Hagenman came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the sixth, but then gave up a three-run homer to DH Kyle Schwarber in the bottom of the seventh.
Hagenman came back out for the bottom of the eighth and gave up a RBI single to SS Bryson Stott and a RBI single to Bader.
The Met offense was shutout by LHP Ranger Suarez who had a dominating six innings with 12 strikeouts and one hit with three walks.
In the top of the seventh, 3B Mark Vientos led off with a homer.
In the top of the eighth, CF Jose Siri doubled with one out and two batters later, RF Juan Soto drove in Soto with a RBI single.
In the top of the ninth, DH Starling Marte singled with one out and then catcher Francisco Alvarez followed with a double.
2B Jeff McNeil then drove in Marte with a RBI single, but Siri and SS Francisco Lindor followed by making the last two outs.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Wednesday, September 10 at the Phillies at 6:45 p.m.
