RHP Jonah Tong got off to a rocky beginning in the bottom of the first after he gave up a lead-off double and walk and after picking up a strikeout was helped out by his defense after CF Tyrone Taylor threw out 1B Michael Busch at the plate.
Tong was then able to have a much better 1-2-3 bottom of the second, however it all unraveled in the bottom of the third.
Tong gave up a bloop single, walk and another single to load the bases with no outs.
He then gave up a RBI double to DH Moises Ballesteroids and a RBI double to RF Seiya Suzuki and was then taken out.
LHP Richard Lovelady came in next gave up a sacrifice fly to CF Pete Crow-Armstrong.
Tong's final line was 2 innings, seven hits, five runs, two walks and one strikeout.
Lovelady stayed in for the bottom of the fourth and gave up a lead-off homer to 3B Matt Shaw and was taken out in the bottom of the fifth after he walked Ballesterois.
RHP Clay Holmes came in next and allowed an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth after 3B Mark Vientos made a throwing error which resulted in a run and then threw a wild pitch to score Crow-Armstrong.
LHP Sean Manaea followed in the bottom of the sixth and gave up a lead-off single to Shaw and a two-run homer to the following hitter Busch.
RHP Ryan Helsley then threw two scoreless innings in the bottom of the seventh and eighth.
The Met offense was held scoreless for the four innings until the top of the fifth after Vientos led off with a single and two batters later, catcher Francisco Alvarez hit a two-run homer.
In the top of the eighth, RF Juan Soto hit a solo homer.
The offense did not do much all night with only four hits leaving three runners on base.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Thursday, September 25 at the Cubs at 7:40 p.m.
