Mets Trade Mark Canha To Brewers

 The New York Mets traded OF Mark Canha to the Milwaukee Brewers today for for 23 year old starting pitcher prospect John Jarvis.

Canha hit .245 with 6 homers and 29 RBI for the Mets this year in 89 games.

Jarvis is the No 30 ranked prospect in the Brewers minor league system on MLB Pipeline and 12th ranked prospect for the Brewers in Baseball America.

He had a 3.33 ERA with 91 strikeouts in 75 2/3 innings in Double-A.

Jarvis recently promoted to Triple-A with a 10.80 ERA and 11 strikeouts over three starts and 11 2/3 innings.

Mets Beat Nationals 5-2 and Verlander Earns 250th Career Win

The New York Mets beat the Washington Nationals 5-2 this afternoon at Citi Field to take three out of four games in the series and improved their record to 50-55.

In the bottom of the first, CF Brandon Nimmo and SS Francisco Lindor started off the inning with walks and two batters later, 1B Pete Alonso delivered a RBI single to score Nimmo.

After a scoreless bottom of the second, Lindor doubled to lead off the bottom of the third and RF Jeff McNeil followed with a RBI triple.

Alonso then drove in McNeil with a sacrifice fly and DH Daniel Vogelbach followed with a single.

LF Mark Canha walked and then 3B Brett Baty singled to load the bases.

Catcher Omar Navarez then drove in Vogelbach with a sacrifice fly.

In the bottom of the fourth, Lindor hit a solo homer with one out for his 21th homer of the year.

RHP Justin Verlander allowed one run on five hits in 5.1 innings.

Verlander gave up one walk with five strikeouts.

He picked up his sixth win of the season and 250th career win of his stellar Hall of Fame career.

Verlander lowered his ERA to 3.15 and has allowed one run or fewer in five out of his last seven starts.

LHP David Peterson came in next and had another solid outing of the bullpen allowing one unearned run in two innings.

RHP Adam Ottavino had to come in to get the last two outs in the top of the eighth.

LHP Brooks Raley closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth and picked up his third save.

The Mets are off tomorrow and return to action on Tuesday, August 1 at the Kansas City Royals at 8:10 p.m.

Mets Lose To Nationals 11-6 And Carrasco Gets Crushed

 The New York Mets lost to the Washington Nationals 11-6 at Citi Field to snap their two-game winning streak and dropped their record to 49-55.

RHP Carlos Carrasco had an awful outing allowing eight runs on eight hits in 2.2 innings.

Carrasco gave up one walk and two strikeouts and his ERA went up to 6.40.

RHP Reed Garrett followed with 2.2 scoreless innings.

RHP Dominic Leone came in next and threw a scoreless top of the sixth.

RHP Drew Smith threw a scoreless top of the seventh.

RHP Trevor Gott threw a scoreless top of the eighth.

RHP Grant Hartwig gave up three runs in the top of the ninth.

3B Mark Vientos drove in the first run of the game with a RBI double in the bottom of the second.

LF Tommy Pham hit a solo homer in the bottom of the fourth and SS Francisco Lindor hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth.

Catcher Francisco Alvarez and Vientos hit back-to-back homers in the bottom of the ninth,

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Sunday, July 30 at home against the Nationals at 1:40 p.m.

Mets Trade Max Scherzer To Rangers

 The New York Mets traded RHP Max Scherzer to the Texas Rangers for top prospect 21 year old infielder/centerfielder Luisangel Acuna.

Acuna the younger brother of Braves star outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr and the 44th best prospect in baseball.

Acuna is hitting .315 with 25 doubles, two triples, seven homers and 42 stolen bases this season in Double-A.

The Mets are paying $39 million of the total $61 million that Scherzer is making for the next two seasons.

Mets Beat Nationals 5-1 Powered By Alonso

 The New York Mets beat the Washington Nationals 5-1 tonight at Citi Field for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 49-54.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first four innings, but came alive in the bottom of the fifth.

3B Brett Baty and Catcher Francisco Alvarez started off the inning with walks, and after CF Brandon Nimmo and SS Francisco Lindor lined out, 1B Pete Alonso came through and broke the scoreless tie with a towering three-run homer off LHP MacKenzie Gore.

In the bottom of the second, Lindor singled with two outs and then Alonso capped out his fantastic night at the plate with a two-run homer, his 30th homer of the season.

RHP Max Scherzer worked out of a based loaded jam in the top of the second and then settled in after that.

Scherzer cruised through the first six innings, but in the top of the seventh gave up a solo homer to 2B Luis Garcia and was taken out after the inning.

His final line was seven innings, six hits, one run, two walks and seven strikeouts.

Scherzer had sharp command of his fastball and slider.

He picked up his ninth win and lowered his ERA to 4.01.

RHP Adam Ottavino followed with a scoreless top of the eighth.

LHP Brooks Raley closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Saturday, July 29 at home against the Washington Nationals at 7:10 p.m.

Mets Beat Nationals 2-1 In Late Inning Rally

 The New York Mets beat the Washington Nationals 2-1 tonight at Citi Field and improved their record to 48-54.

The Met offense struggled for the first seven innings and did not do much against RHP Josiah Gray, but came alive in the bottom of the eighth.

2B Jeff McNeil and 1B Pete Alonso singled with one out and then DH Daniel Vogelbach drove in McNeil with a RBI single to tie the game.

RF D.J. Stewart was then hit by a pitch to load the bases and then after a long rain delay, LF Mark Canha drove in the game-winning run with a sacrifice fly.

RHP Kodai Senga had another stellar outing allowing one run on two hits in six innings.

Senga gave up three walks and had five strikeouts.

He lowered his ERA to 3.17.

LHP David Peterson followed with two scoreless innings in the top of the seventh and eighth innings.

He picked up his third win.

LHP Brooks Raley closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth and picked up his second save.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Friday, July 28 at home against the Washington Nationals at 7:10 p.m.

Mets Trade David Robertson To Marlins

 The New York Mets traded closer RHP David Robertson to the Miami Marlins tonight for prospects inielder Marco Vargas and catcher Ronald Hernandez.

Vargas is the Marlins 18th ranked prospect and has a stellar .457 on-base percentage in the FCL 

Hernandez is the Marlins 21th ranked prospect hitting .298 with an on-base percentage of .464.

Robertson had a spectacular year for the Mets with a 2.05 ERA in 44 innings with 9.8 K/9.

Mets Lose to Yankees 3-1 After Offense Struggles With RISP

 The New York Mets lost to the New York Yankees 3-1 tonight at Yankee Stadium to split their two-game series and dropped their record to 47-54.

LHP Jose Quintana started out with a scoreless bottom of the first, but ran into trouble in the bottom of the second.

Quintana gave up a lead-off walk to 3B D.J. LaMahieu and then walked CF Harrison Bader.

Quintana then walked SS Anthony Volpe to load the bases and two batters later gave up a RBI ground-out to 2B Oswalt Peraza.

Quintana then gave up a sacrifice fly to the following hitter LF Isiah Kiner-Falefa.

Quintana had a scoreless bottom of the third, but was let down by his defense in the bottom of the fourth after 3B Mark Vientos made a throwing error which allowed Bader to go to second.

Quintana then gave up a RBI single to the following hitter Volpe.

Quintana was able to settle down after that with scoreless innings in the bottom of the fifth and sixth and was then taken out.

His final line was six innings, six hits, three runs (two earned runs), three walks and five strikeouts.

RHP Drew Smith followed and threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh.

RHP Trevor Gott threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first two innings against LHP Carlon Rondon, but in the top of the third, catcher Francisco Alvarez led off with a single and 2B Danny Mendick followed with a double. 

CF Brandon Nimmo then drove in Alvarez with a sacrifice fly and two batters later SS Francisco Lindor walked to load the bases.

1B Pete Alonso came up next and hit a hard line out to left field to end the scoring threat.

In the top of the fourth, RF Jeff McNeil walked and LF Mark Canha singled with one out.

Alvarez came up next with a golden scoring opportunity, but grounded into a double play on the first pitch he saw.

In the top of the fifth, Nimmo reached on an error with one out and Vientos followed with a single. 

However, Lindor then lined out to second and Alonso struck out to end the threat.

In the top of the sixth, Canha singled with two outs, but then Alvarez popped up to end the inning.

The bats did not do much after that and had no more hits the rest of the game.

They were unable to get a clutch hit all night and went 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left 7 runners on base.

Mets Beat Yankees 9-3 Powered By Alonso

The New York Mets beat the New York Yankees 9-3 tonight at Yankee Stadium and improved their record to 47-53.

The Met offense got on the board immediately in the top of the first after CF Brandon Nimmo led off with a double and three batters later, 1B Pete Alonso drove in Nimmo with a RBI single off RHP Domingo German.

After a scoreless top of the second, SS Francisco Lindor doubled with two outs in the top of the third and 2B Jeff McNeil walked.

Alonso came up next and delivered once again with a three-run homer.

The bats did do much in the next two innings, but in the top of the sixth Alonso capped off a stellar night at the plate with his second homer a solo shot and 5th RBI of the game.

DH Daniel Vogelbach followed with a solo homer to extend the lead to 6-0.

In the top of the seventh, Lindor reached on an infield hit with one out and then advanced to second on a throwing error by SS Anthony Volpe.

McNeil followed with a RBI single.

In the top of the ninth, Nimmo walked with one out and then Lindor followed with a single and reached second on an error by CF Harrison Bader.

McNeil came up next and broke the game open with a two-run double for his second and third RBI of the game.

RHP Justin Verlander had a solid outing throwing six scoreless innings.

Verlander gave up two hits and four walks with six strikeouts.

He picked up his fifth win and lowered his ERA to 3.24.

LHP Brooks Raley came in next in the bottom of the seventh and gave up a RBI double to Volpe and was then taken out.

RHP Dominic Leone came in with the based loaded, but was able to get DH Giancarlo Stanton to fly out on a sacrifice fly and then struck out 1B Anthony Rizzo to end the inning.

RHP Grant Hartwig followed in the bottom of the eighth and got into trouble in the bottom of the eighth after he loaded the bases with two hits and one walk and recorded only out in the inning before getting taken out.

RHP David Robertson had to come in and retired pinch-hitter Ben Rortvdeft on a RBI ground-out and then retired RF Jake Bauers on a ground-out to end the inning.

RHP Adam Ottavino closed it out with a scoreless bottom of the ninth.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Wednesday, July 26 at the Yankees at 7:05 p.m.

Mets Lose To Red Sox 6-1 And Carrasco Struggles

 The New York Mets lost to the Boston Red Sox 6-1 tonight at Fenway Park to lose two out of three games in the series and dropped their record to 46-53.

RHP Carlos Carrasco got off to a tough start in the bottom of the first after he gave up a lead-off single to CF Jarren Duran and later in the inning walked DH Justin Turner and 3B Rafael Devers to load the bases.

Carrasco then gave up a RBI single to RF Adam Duvall.

After a scoreless bottom of the second, Carrasco's struggles continued in the bottom of the third after he gave up six straight hits which lead to four hits and was then taken out.

His final line was 2.1 innins, 10 hits, five runs, two walks and two strikeouts.

RHP Drew Smith came in next and gave up a two-run single to catcher Yu Chang and gave up another run on a wild pitch.

RHP Trevor Gott followed and threw a scoreless bottom of the fifth.

LHP David Peterson threw a scoreless bottom of the sixth.

RHP Dominic Leone gave up a solo homer to Devers in the bottom of the seventh.

RHP Adam Ottavino threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

The Mets offense did not do much outside of a RBI single by SS Francisco Lindor in the top of the sixth.

They went 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left eight runners on base.

The Mets are off tomorrow and return back to action on Tuesday, July 25 in the Bronx at the New York Yankees in the Subway Series at 7:05 p.m.

Mets Lose To Red Sox 8-6 After Scherzer Struggles

 The New York Mets lost to the Boston Red Sox 8-6 tonight at Fenway Park in the second game of a doubleheader and dropped their record to 46-52.

RHP Max Scherzer got off to a tough start in the bottom of the first after he gave up a lead-off homer to CF Jarren Duran.

Scherzer's struggles continued in the bottom of the second inning after he gave up another lead-off homer to 1B Triston Casas.

Scherzer had scoreless innings in the bottom of the third and fourth, but in the bottom of the fifth gave up a solo homer to SS Yu Chang.

Scherzer had more difficulties in the bottom of the sixth after he gave up a two-run homer to Casas and was taken out after the inning.

His final line was six innings, five runs, two walks and seven strikeouts.

RHP Trevor Gott followed in the bottom of the seventh and got into trouble after he gave up a RBI single to LF Masataka Yoshida and a two-run homer to DH Justin Turner and was taken out after recording only out in the inning.

LHP Josh Walker had to come in to get the last two outs in the inning.

RHP Drew Smith threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first three innings until the top of the fourth after 2B Jeff McNeil hit a two-run single and then came around to score on a throwing error by catcher Jorge Alfaro.

The bats did not do much until the top of the ninth after 1B Pete Alonso hit a one-out triple and then catcher Francisco Alvarez followed with a RBI single.

Two batters later, DH Mark Vientos hit a RBI single and then 3B Brett Baty followed with a RBI single.

DH Daniel Vogelbach then pinch-hit with two outs, but flew out to end the game.

Danny Mendick will be called up as corresponding roster move to replace Guillorme on roster.


 

Mets Beat Red Sox 5-4 in First Game of Doubleheader Behind Bullpen

 The New York Mets beat the Boston Red Sox 5-4 this afternoon at Fenway Park in the first game of a doubleheader and improved their record to 46-51.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first two innings until CF Brandon Nimmo hit a two-run homer in the top of the third.

In the top of the fourth, DH Daniel Vogelbach hit a go-ahead two-run homer.

In the top of the sixth, 1B Pete Alonso led off with a single and later in the inning advanced to second on a wild pitch.

Two batters later, 3B Brett Baty drove in Alonso with a RBI infield single.

RHP Kodai Senga allowed three runs on three hits in 3.1 innings, but had to come out of the game due to a rain delay that eventually became a suspended game.

RHP Grant Hartwig followed with two scoreless innings in the bottom of the fourth and fifth and picked up his second win.

LHP David Peterson came in next and gave up a run in the bottom of the sixth.

RHP Dominic Leone had to come in and threw a scoreless inning.

LHP Brooks Raley threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

RHP David Robertson closed it out with a scoreless bottom of the ninth and picked up his 14th save.

Mets-Red Sox Game Suspended

 Tonight's Mets-Red Sox game at Fenway Park was suspended due to rain in the fourth inning.


The game will be picked up tomorrow afternoon at 2:10 p.m. with one out in the bottom of the fourth inning with the Mets leading 4-3.

The game originally scheduled for 4:10 p.m. ET tomorrow was pushed back to 7:10 p.m. ET.

Mets Lose To White Sox 6-2 and Snap Winning Streak

 The New York Mets lost to the Chicago White Sox 6-2 this afternoon at Citi Field to snap their three-game winning streak and dropped their record to 45-51.

LHP Jose Quintana made his season debut and had a rocky beginning in the top of the first after he gave up three straight hits which led to a RBI single by DH Eloy Jiminez.

Quintana gave up another run in the top of the second after he gave up a sacrifice fly to 2B Elvis Andrus.

Quintana settled down after that with scoreless innings in the top of the third, fourth and fifth and was taken out after the inning.

His final line was five innings, six hits, two runs, 0 walks and three strikeouts.

LHP Drew Smith came in next and got into immediate trouble after 1B Pete Alonso made an error leading off the inning.

Smith then gave up a stolen base, a single and walk and then a RBI double to catcher Yasmani Grandal.

Smith then gave up a sacrifice fly to RF Oscar Colas and a RBI triple to Andrus and was taken out.

LHP David Peterson came in next and threw 1.1 scoreless innings.

RHP Dominic Leone followed and threw a scoreless top of the eighth.

RHP Trevor Gott threw a scoreless top of the ninth.

The Met offense did not do much outside of a solo homer by catcher Omar Navarez in the bottom of the fifth and a RBI single by Pete Alonso in the bottom of the ninth.

They managed four hits and went 1-5 with runners in scoring position leaving six runners on base.

Mets Place Starling Marte on IL

 The New York Mets are placing RF Starling Marte on the injured list with migraines.

DH Mark Vientos will be called up as corresponding roster move.

Vientos had a .469 OPS for the Mets earlier this year in limited playing time. He had a .1000 OPS with 16 homers and 50 RBI in 60 games for Triple-A Syracuse.

Mets Beat White Sox 5-1 After Verlander Dominates

 The New York Mets beat the Chicago White Sox 3-1 tonight at Citi Field for their third consecutive win and improved their record to 45-50.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first two innings until the bottom of the third after 3B Brett Baty led off the inning with a solo homer after homering in the previous night's game.

In the bottom of the fourth, 1B Pete Alonso led off with a walk and then 2B Jeff McNeil followed with a hit by pitch.

Catcher Francisco Alvarez followed with a RBI single and then DH Daniel Vogelbach walked.

Baty followed by grounding into a fielder's choice which brought home a run and then 2B Luis Guillorme hit a sacrifice fly.

CF Brandon Nimmo followed with a RBI double.

RHP Justin Verlander had an outstanding outing allowing one run on three hits in eight innings and the only run coming on a solo homer by CF Luis Robert Jr in the top of the seventh.

Verlander had pinpoint command of his fastball, curveball and slider which helped him pick up quick outs.

He had one walk with seven strikeouts.

Verlander picked up his fourth win and lowered his ERA to 3.47.

RHP Adam Ottavino closed it out with 1-2-3 top of the ninth inning.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Thursday, July 20 at home against the White Sox at 1:10 p.m.

Mets Hold On To Beat White Sox 11-10 Behind Alvarez

 The New York Mets beat the Chicago White Sox 11-10 tonight at Citi Field for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 44-50.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first after CF Brandon Nimmo led off with a walk and LF Tommy Pham followed with a RBI double and then advanced to third on a wild pitch.

SS Francisco Lindor then walked to load the bases and 1B Pete Alonso followed with a sacrifice fly.

Two batters later, catcher Francisco Alvarez continued his torrid start to his rookie season with a two-run homer and then 3B Brett Baty followed with a solo homer.

In the bottom of the second, Nimmo walked once again with one out and then two batters later, Lindor drove him in with a RBI double.

After a scoreless bottom of the third, DH D.J. Stewart led off the bottom of the fourth with a solo homer.

Two batters later, Pham reached on an infield single and stole second and then two batters later, Alonso walked.

2B Jeff McNeil followed with a RBI single.

In the bottom of the sixth, Pham led off with a walk and three batters later, McNeil singled.

Alvarez came up next and capped off his stellar night at the plate with a three-run homer his second homer of the night and 19th of the season.

RHP Carlos Carrasco had a scoreless top of the first, but gave up a solo homer to catcher Yasmani Grandal in the top of the second and a RBI double to SS Tim Anderson in the top of the third.

Carrasco had a scoreless top of the fourth, but ran out of gas in the top of the fifth after he gave up back-to-back singles to Andrew Benintendi and Anderson and was taken out in the middle of the inning.

Carrasco's final line was 4.2 innings, six hits, four runs, two walks and five strikeouts.

RHP Grant Hartwig had to come in to get the last out in the top of the fifth and then threw a scoreless top of the sixth.

Hartwig picked up his second win.

RHP Trevor Gott followed and gave up three runs in the top of the seventh and was taken out.

LHP Brooks Raley came in and recorded two huge outs to help maintain the lead and end the inning.

RHP Adam Ottavino threw a scoreless top of the eighth.

RHP David Robertson came on in the top of the ninth and gave up a lead-off walk to Grandal and later in the inning a two-out walk to pinch-hitter Elvis Andrus.

Robertson then gave up a RBI single to Benintendi, but was able to get Anderson to fly out to end the game and pick up his 13th save.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Wednesday, July 19 at home against the White Sox at 7:10 p.m.

Mets Beat Dodgers 2-1 In Extra Innings Led By Scherzer

 The New York Mets beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 2-1 this afternoon at Citi Field to snap their four-game losing streak and improved their record to 43-50.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first four innings, but broke through in the bottom of the fifth.

RF Starling Marte led off the inning with a single and two batters later, LF Mark Canha was hit by a pitch.

Catcher Omar Navarez then walked to load the bases and then CF Brandon Nimmo hit a ground-out back to RHP Bobby Miller which brought home a run.

The offense did not do much after that until the bottom of the tenth after pinch-hitter Luis Guillorme hit a walk-off double to score 3B Brett Baty after he started out the inning at second base as the ghost runner.

RHP Max Scherzer had a stellar outing throwing seven scoreless innings allowing one hit and three walks with six strikeouts.

Scherzer had improved command of his slider and fastball which helped him work his way out of trouble.

He lowered his ERA to 3.99.

RHP Trevor Gott followed in the top of the eighth and had a difficult appearance allowing one run on two hits on a RBI single by 2B Mookie Betts and recorded only out in the inning and was then taken out.

LHP Brooks Raley had to come in and got the last two outs in the inning after 1B Freddie Freeman grounded out and 3B Max Muncy popped out to end the inning.

RHP David Robertson came in next and threw two scoreless innings in the top of the ninth and tenth and picked up fourth win.

The Mets are off tomorrow and return back to action on Tuesday, July 18 at home against the Chicago White Sox at 7:10 p.m.

Mets Lose to Dodgers 5-1 After Offense Struggles

The New York Mets lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-1 tonight at Citi Field for their fourth consecutive loss and dropped their record to 42-50.

RHP Kodai Senga had another stellar outing allowing one run on four hits in six innings.

Senga had two walks with nine strikeouts and lowered his ERA to 3.20.

LHP Brooks Raley followed with a scoreless top of the seventh.

RHP Adam Ottavino came on in the top of the eighth and gave up back-to-back one out singles to 3B Max Muncy and DH J.D. Martinez.

Ottavino was then able to get LF David Peralta to ground out to 1B Pete Alonso, but then Alonso made a poor high throw to shortstop Francisco Lindor trying to turn a double play which allowed the go-ahead run to score.

RHP Grant Hartwig followed in the top of the eighth and gave up a lead-off single to 2B Mookie Betts and two batters later a double to catcher Will Smith.

Hartwig was then let down by his defense after 3B Brett Baty dropped a pop-out which allowed a run to score.

Hartwig gave up RBI singles to the following two hitters Martinez and Peralta.

The Met offense did not do much outside of a solo homer by CF Brandon Nimmo in the bottom of the fourth. 

They struggled with picking up timely hits in particular in the bottom of the eighth wasting a scoring opportunity with runners on first and third and no out.

They went 0-3 with runners in scoring position leaving two runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Sunday July 16 at home against the Dodgers at 1:40 p.m.

Mets Shutout By Dodgers 6-0 In Sluggish post-All Star game

 The New York Mets lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-0 tonight at Citi Field for their third consecutive game and dropped their record to 42-49.

RHP Justin Verlander started out with four scoreless innings, but ran into trouble in the top of the fifth.

Verlander gave up a two-run single to 2B Mookie Betts and a RBI double to 1B Freddie Freeman and was taken out after the inning.

His final line was five innings. two hits, three runs, six walks and six strikeouts.

LHP David Peterson came in next in the top of the sixth and gave up a RBI single to SS Miguel Rojas.

RHP Trevor Gott threw a scoreless inning in the top of the seventh.

RHP Dominic Leone followed and gave up a solo homer to DH J.D. Martinez in the top of the eighth.

RHP Drew Smith came in next in the tpp of the ninth and gave up a RBI ground-out to catcher Will Smith.

The Met offense did little all night outside of a lead-off double by CF Brandon Nimmo in the bottom of the first.

They had only one hit and went 0-3 with runners in scoring position leaving four runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Saturday, July 15 at home against the Dodgers at 7:15 p.m.

Mets Lose to Padres 6-2 Going Into All-Star Break

 The New York Mets lost to the San Diego Padres 6-2 at Petco Park this afternoon to lose two out of three games in the series and dropped their record to 42-48 heading into the All-Star break.

RHP Max Scherzer got off to a rough start in the bottom of the first after he gave up a lead-off double to 2B Ha-Seong Kim and two batters a double to RF Fernando Tatis Jr.

Scherzer then gave up a three-run homer to 3B Manny Machado.

Scherzer was able to settle down with scoreless innings in the bottom of the second, third and fourth, but ran into more trouble in the bottom of the fifth.

Scherzer gave up a one-out single to Tatis Jr and then a two-run homer to Machado, his second of the game and was taken out after the inning.

Scherzer's final line was five innings, six hits, five runs, three walks and seven strikeouts.

LHP T.J. McFarland came in next in the bottom of the sixth and gave up a one-out RBI single to CF Trent Grisham.

RHP Grant Hartwig followed and threw 1.2 scoreless innings.

RHP Dominic Leone threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

The Met offense struggled with men on base and wasted a based loading scoring opportunity in the top of the second after catcher Francisco Alvarez grounded into a double play with bases loaded and one out.

In the top of the fourth, they had another based loaded opportunity with one out but DH D.J. Stewart and Alvarez struck out to end the threat.

In the top of the eighth, 2B Luis Guillorme hit a double to lead off the inning and then CF Brandon Nimmo followed with a walk.

LF Mark Canha then hit a two-run double, but SS Francisco Lindor grounded out and 1B Pete Alonso grounded into a double play to end the threat.

In total, the offense hit four inning-ending double plays and went 1-6 with runners in scoring position leaving six runners on base.

The Mets are now off for the next four days due to the All-Star Break and return back to action on Friday, July 14 at home against the Los Angeles Dodgers at 7:10 p.m.

Mets Lose To Padres 3-1 After Offense Struggles

The New York Mets lost to the San Diego Padres 3-1 tonight at Petco Park to snap their six-game winning streak and dropped their record to 42-47.

LHP David Peterson had a scoreless bottom of the first, but ran into trouble in the bottom of the second.

Peterson gave up a lead-off double to catcher Gary Sanchez and then an infield hit to 1B Jake Croneworth.

Peterson then gave up a RBI ground-out to DH Brandon Dixon and a two-run homer to the following hitter 3B Matthew Batten.

Peterson settled down after that and did nor allow any more runs.

His final was 5.1 innings, five hits, three runs, two walks and seven strikeouts.

RHP Dominic Leone came in next and got the last two outs in the bottom of the sixth.

RHP Grant Hartwig followed and threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh.

RHP Travis Gott threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

The Met offense did not do much against LHP Blake Snell outside of a solo homer by catcher Francisco Alvarez in the top of the seventh.

It was Alvarez's 17th homer in his rookie season.

They went 0-3 with runners in scoring position leaving five runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Sunday July 10 at the Padres at 4:10 in their final game before the All-Star break.

The New York Mets beat the San Diego Padres 7-5 tonight at Petco Park for their sixth consecutive win and improved their record to 42-46.

In the top of first, CF Brandon Nimmo led off with a walk and then LF Tommy Pham followed with a single.

Two batters later, 1B Pete Alonso was hit by a pitch to load the bases and then DH Daniel Vogelbach reached on an infield hit which brought home a run.

RF Starling Marte then grounded into a double play which ended the scoring threat.

After a scoreless top of the second, SS Francisco Lindor hit a solo homer with two outs in the top of the third.

In the top of the fifth, Lindor walked with one out and stole second.

Two batters later, Vogelbach came through with another RBI single to tie the game.

The Met offense did not do much for the next four innings and wasted a scoring opportunity in the top of the ninth after Marte grounded into another double play with the based loaded, but came through un the top of the tenth.

2B Jeff McNeil led off the tenth with a RBI double and then catcher Francisco Alvarez followed with a RBI single.

DH Mark Canha then grounded out to the catcher and Nimmo flew out to right.

Pham was then hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a wild pitch which also advanced Alvarez to third.

Lindor came up next and broke the game open with a two-run single.

RHP Justin Verlander got off to a tough start in the bottom of the first after he gave up a RBI double to 3B Manny Machado and then  was let down by his defense after 3B Luis Guillorme made an error to allow another to score.

Verlander then gave up a RBI double to CF Trent Grisham in the bottom of the second and then loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the third and got catcher Gary Sanchez to ground into a double play.

Verlander settled down after that with scoreless innings in the bottom of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings and was then taken out.

His final line was six innings, five hits, three runs (two earned), three walks and two strikeouts.

LHP Brooks Raley came in next and got the first two outs in the bottom of the seventh.

RHP Adam Ottavino followed with 1.1 scoreless innings.

RHP Drew Smith threw a scoreless bottom of the ninth and picked up his fourth win.

RHP David Robertson came on in the bottom of the tenth and gave up a two-run home to Machado, but was able to get the last three outs to close it out.

Mets Sweep Diamondbacks 9-0 Behind Carrasco and Lindor

 The New York Mets beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 9-0 tonight to sweep the three-game series and fifth consecutive win overall to improve their record to 41-46.

The Mets offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first after SS Francisco Lindor tripled with two outs and then 1B Pete Alonso followed with a two-run homer.

After a scoreless top of the second, Lindor hit another triple with one out in the top of the third and then Alonso followed with a RBI single.

DH Daniel Vogelbach followed with a RBI double and two batters later, 2B Jeff McNeil hit a RBI ground-rule double to bring in McNeil.

Catcher Francisco Alvarez followed with a two-run homer to bring the game open for his 16th homer of his young rookie season.

In the top of the fifth, Vogelbach led off with a single and two batters McNeil walked.

Alvarez followed with a RBI single for his third RBI of the night.

In the top of the sixth, Lindor capped off the scoring for the night with a solo homer.

Lindor had an incredible game going 5-5 with two triples, a homer and two singles and was a double shy of hitting for the cycle.

He raised his average up to .233 and now has 18 homers and 57 RBI on the season.

RHP Carlos Carrasco had a spectacular outing throwing eight scoreless innings allowing three hits and one walk with four strikeouts.

Carrasco had pinpoint command of his fastball, change-up and curveball which helped keep the young Diamondback hitters off balanced.

He picked up his third win and lowered his ERA down to 5.16.

RHP Trevor Gott came on in the bottom of the ninth and closed it out with a scoreless inning.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Friday, July 7 at the San Diego Padres at 9:40 p.m.

Mets Rally To Beat Diamondbacks 2-1 in Ninth Inning

 The New York Mets beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 2-1 tonight at Chase Field for their fourth consecutive win and improved their record to 40-46.

The Met offense was silenced for the first eight innings, but came alive with two outs in the top of the ninth against closer LHP Andrew Chavin.

Catcher Francisco Alvares hit a game-tying solo homer with two outs to the opposite field to to tie the game and then 3B Brett Baty followed with a single.

DH Mark Canha came up next and hit a towering game-winning triple to centerfield to bring in Baty,

RHP Kodai Senga had a spectacular outing allowing one run on four hits in eight inning.

He gave up one walk with 12 strikeouts.

Senga was in complete control all night and had outstanding command of his "ghostfork" splitter along with his blazing fastball topping out in the upper 90's.

It was without a doubt the best start of his rookie season.

He picked up his seventh win and lowered his ERA to 3.31.

RHP David Robertson closed it out with a scoreless bottom of the ninth and picked up his 13th save.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Thursday, July 6 at the Diamondbacks at 9:40 p.m.

Mets Beat Diamondbacks 8-5 Powered By Three Homers

 The New York Mets beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 8-5 this afternoon at Chase Field for their third consecutive win and improved their record to 39-46.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first three innings against RHP Zach Davies, but came alive in the top of the fourth

SS Francisco Lindor walked with one out and two batters later 2B Jeff McNeil reached on an infield single.

RF Starling Marte followed and broke out of his slump with a three-run homer.

In the top of the fifth with two outs, CF Brandon Nimmo hit a solo homer.

After a scoreless top of the sixth, DH Daniel Vogelbach walked with one out in the top of the seventh and then catcher Francisco Alvarez came up and hit a towering two-run homer to centerfield that went 467 feet with an exit velocity of 110 miles per hour off the bat.

In the top of the eighth, Lindor led off with a hit by pitch and two batters later, McNeil walked.

Lindor and McNeil then stole second and third and pitch-hitter D.J. Stewart drove in Lindor with a sacrifice fly.

In the top of the ninth, 3B Brett Baty led off with a single and then stole second.

Three batters later, Lindor capped off the scoring with a RBI single to bring in a much needed insurance run.

RHP Max Scherzer gave up a solo homer to LF Corbin Carroll in the bottom of the first, and then had scoreless innings in the bottom of the second and third.

Scherzer gave up two more solo homers in the bottom of the fourth to 1B Christian Walker and DH Lourdes Gurriel Jr.

In the bottom of the fifth, Scherzer allowed another run on a bases loaded walk but came back to strike out Walker with the bases loaded to keep the game tied.

Scherzer had a 1-2-3 bottom of the sixth and was then taken out.

His final line was six innings, five hits, four runs, two walks and nine strikeouts.

He picked up his eighth win.

LHP Brooks Raley followed with a scoreless bottom of the seventh.

RHP Adam Ottavino threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

RHP Drew Smith came on in the bottom of the ninth and gave up a single and walk and was taken out with two outs. 

RHP David Robertson had to come in and gave up a RBI single to Carrol and walked Walker to bring in a run, but then retired Guerriel Jr on a ground-out to close out the game and picked up his 12th save.

Mets Beat Giants 8-4 And Win First Series In a Month

 The New York Mets beat the San Francisco Giants 8-4 tonight at Citi Field to take two out of three games in the series and improved their record to 38-46 for their first series win in a month. 

Their last series win was against the Philadelphia Phillies from May 30-June 1.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first two innings against RHP Ross Stripling, but then came alive in the bottom of the third.

Catcher Francisco Alvarez walked with one out and then CF Brandon Nimmo followed with a single and LF Tommy Pham walked to load the bases.

SS Francisco Lindor followed by flying out to centerfield, but then DH Pete Alonso drew a walk to tie the game.

2B Jeff McNeil followed with a two-run single bringing in Nimmo and Pham.

In the bottom of the fourth, 1B Mark Canha led off with a solo homer and then three batters later Nimmo walked.

Pham followed with a RBI double.

The bats did not do much for the next two innings, but in the bottom of the seventh, Alonso led off with a double and then McNeil hit a ground-out to the right side which allowed Alonso to move to third.

RF Starling Marte followed with a RBI single.

In the bottom of the eighth, Pham doubled with one out and two batters later Alonso broke the game open with a two-run homer his 25th homer of the season.

LHP David Peterson started out well with two scoreless innings, but gave up a RBI ground-out to 2B Thairo Estrada in the top of the third.

Peterson had a scoreless top of the fourth and was taken out after the inning.

His final line was four innings, three hits, one run, three walks and three strikeouts.

RHP Grant Hartwig followed with two scoreless innings in the top of the fourth and fifth.

Hartwig picked up his first win of his career.

RHP Jeff Brigham came in next in the top of the seventh but had a rocky outing after he gave up a two-run homer to pinch-hitter Blake Sabol and a RBI double to J.D. Davis and was pulled after that.

RHP Dominic Leone and LHP Brooks Raley combined to finish out the top of the seventh.

Raley stayed in for the top of the eighth and struck out two out of the first three batters he faced and was then taken out.

RHP Adam Ottavino came on and then walked 1B Wilmer Flores and then hit Estrada to load the bases with two outs

Ottavino came back to strike out Davis to end the inning.

RHP David Robertson closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth.

The Mets are off tomorrow and return back to action on Tuesday, July 4 at the Arizona Diamondbacks at 4:10 p.m.

Mets Beat Giants 4-1 Behind Three Homers and Verlander

 The New York Mets beat the San Francisco Giants 4-1 this afternoon at Citi Field to snap their three-game losing streak and improved their record to 37-46.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first two innings against RHP Anthony DeScalfani, but came alive in the bottom of the third.

Catcher Francisco Alvarez hit a solo homer with one out and two batters CF Brandon Nimmo hit a solo homer.

SS Francisco Lindor followed with a solo homer of his own for third homer of the inning.

In the bottom of the fourth, 1B Pete Alonso walked to lead off the inning and two batters later, LF Tommy Pham continued his torrid stretch with a RBI double.

RHP Justin Verlander cruised through the first six innings, but ran into trouble in the top  of the seventh after he gave up a lead-off single to 3B J.D. Davis and then later in the inning reached third on an error by Alonso.

Verlander then gave up a RBI ground-out to Thairo Estrada after he grounded into a double play.

Verlander then gave up a double to DH Blake Sabol and walked LF Austin Slater, but came back to strike out SS Brandon Crawford to end the inning and was then taken out.

His final line was seven innings, five hits, one run, one walk and six strikeouts.

He picked up his third win and lowered his ERA to 3.66.

RHP Drew Smith followed with a scoreless top of the eighth.

RHP Adam Ottavino closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth and picked up his sixth save.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Sunday July 2, at home against the Giants on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball at 7:10 p.m.
