The New York Mets lost to the St. Louis Cardinals 5-0 tonight for their third consecutive loss and dropped their record to 41-50. RHP Rafael Montero got the start and was hurt by his poor infield defense. Montero allowed a sacrifice fly to 3B Jed Gyorko after 3B T.J. Rivera made a error to set up the run. In the top of the second inning, he allowed another run after SS Jose Reyes failed to turn a double play on a ground ball by Cardinals RHP Michael Wacha. 1B Matt Carpertar followed with an RBI double. LF Tommy Phan reached on another error by Rivera to bring home run. That would be the last run that he would give up. Montero allowed four runs (two earned) on seven hits in six innings. He gave up one walk and had five strikeouts. RHP Fernando Salas came in next and allowed an unearned run in two-thirds of an innings. LHP Josh Edgin and RHP Neil Ramirez combined to pitch a scoreless top of the eighth inning. RHP Hansel Robles pitched a scoreless top of the ninth inning.
The Mets offense was shutdown by Cardinals starter RHP Michael Wacha and managed only three hits.
