The New York Mets lost to the Oakland Athletics 3-2 today to snap their four-game winning steak and drop their record to 45-51. RHP Rafael Montero had a solid start allowing three runs on seven hits in seven innings. Montero was hurt by the long ball after giving up three solo homers, but otherwise pitched well. He gave up four strikeouts and had one walk. RHP Fernando Salas came in next and pitched a scoreless top of the eighth inning. LHP Josh Smoker pitched a scoreless top of the ninth inning.
LF Michael Conforto continued his hot hitting since the All-Star break with a solo homer in the bottom of the third inning to tie the game at 1. SS Jose Reyes hit a RBI ground-out in the bottom of the sixth inning, which wound up being the last run the Mets would score.
