The New York Mets lost to the St. Louis Cardinals 6-0 today to drop their record to 39-47 and lost two out of three games in their last series before the All-Star break. LHP Steven Matz had his most difficult start of the season. Matz allowed five runs on seven hits in 4 1/3 innings. He gave up one walk and had one strikeout. This was the first time that Matz didn't go at least six innings after 10 consecutive starts and also had his scoreless inning streak snapped at 17 innings. RHP Erik Goedell followed and allowed an inherited run on an RBI single to catcher Yadier Moliana. It was the first time this year that Goedell had given up an inherited run. RHP Seth Lugo followed and allowed one run in three innings. Lugo had three strikeouts and one walk and gave the bullpen a much needed rest.
The Mets offense was lifeless all afternoon and had only three hits. It was the third time that the Mets were shut out this year.
