Mets Call Up Amed Rosario

The New York Mets are calling up their top prospect SS Amed Rosario to the major leagues. Rosario will make his Major League debut tomorrow night against the Colorado Rockies. He hit .328 with 7 homers in 94 in Triple-A this year. Rosario played in the Futures Game earlier this month and is the # 2 ranked prospect in baseball.

Mets Trade Addison Reed to Red Sox

The New York Mets have traded RHP Addison Reed to the Boston Red Sox for three pitching prospects, reliever RHP Gerson Bautista, reliever RHP Jamie Callahan and RHP Stephen Nogosek. Nogosek is the highest touted prospect in the trade ranked 18th overall in the Red Sox system. Callahan is the 23th ranked prospect for the Sox. Bautista is ranked 28th overall. It's clear from these moves and the trade for RHP AJ Ramos that GM Sandy Alderson is putting a lot of emphasis in upgrading the bullpen for next year.

Mets vs. Mariners Game 103 Recap

The New York Mets lost to the Seattle Mariners 9-1 today for their second consecutive loss and dropped their record to 48-55. RHP Seth Lugo had a rough outing allowing five runs on eight hits in five innings. He gave up no walks and had five strikeouts. Lugo gave up a three-run homer to DH Nelson Cruz in the bottom of the first inning and a solo homer to RF Leonys Martin in the bottom of the second inning. He also gave up a RBI double to 2B Robinson Cano in the bottom of the second inning. RHP Fernando Salas came in next and gave up an unearned run in the bottom of the sixth inning after 2B Neil Walker made an error on a grounder. LHP Josh Smoker allowed a run in the bottom of the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly by 1B Danny Valencia. RHP AJ Ramos made his Mets debut in the bottom of the eighth inning and had a difficult first outing. Ramos gave up two runs on two hits.

The Mets offense struggled against Mariners starter LHP James Paxton. Infielder Matt Reynolds drove in the only run of the game with an RBI single in the top of the ninth inning.

Mets vs. Mariners Game 102 Recap

The New York Mets lost to the Seattle Mariners 3-2 today to snap their one-game losing streak and drop their record to 48-54. RHP Jacob deGrom had his first loss in his last eight starts. deGrom allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits in seven hits. He was hurt by his defense in the bottom of the third inning 2B Neil Walker failed to turn a routine double play. deGrom had 10 strikeouts and one walk. He is the first Mets pitcher since David Cone in 1992 to record eight double-digit strikeout games. RHP Fernando Salas came in next in the bottom of the seventh inning and allowed two hits before getting two outs. LHP Josh Smoker came on to finish off the inning in the bottom of the seventh and came back out for the bottom of the eighth and got the first two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning. RHP Erik Goedell came in next and was able to finish off the inning after LF Michael Conforto threw a runner out at home plate to end the inning.


The Mets offense struggled all day with runners in scoring position going 1 for 9 and leaving nine runners on base and against Brewers RHP Yovani Gallardo and managed five hits. 1B Wilmer Flores drew in the first run of the game with a based-loaded walk in the top of the fifth inning. LF Michael Conforto drove in the the other run with a RBI single with two outs in the top of the ninth inning.

Mets vs. Mariners Game 101 Recap

The New York Mets defeated the Seattle Marlins 7-5 last night their two -game losing streak and improve their record to 48-53. RF Jay Bruce helped get to Mariners starter RHP Ariel Miranda with a two-run homer in the top of the first inning.  CF Michael Conforto hit a a solo homer in the top of the third inning. 1B Wilmer Flores added a sacrifice fly in the top of the third. The offense didn't score again until the top of the eighth inning after Conforto hit his second homer of the game to tie the game at 5. 2B Neil Walker hit the go-ahead single to give the Mets a 6-5 lead. DH Curtis Granderson helped tack on an insurance run in the eighth inning with an RBI single.

RHP Rafael Montero got the start and started out well allowing one run in the first four innings. In the bottom of the fifth inning, it all unraveled for Montero after he allowed four runs. Montero gave up five runs on three hits in 4 2/3 innings. He gave five walks and had five strikeouts.  LHP Josh Edgin came in next and was unable to get the last out in the bottom of the fifth. RHP Hansel Robles followed and recorded the last out in the bottom of the fifth and the first two outs in the bottom of the sixth before being taken out after allowing two consecutive hits. LHP Jerry Blevins got the last out in the bottom of the sixth and also pitched a scoreless bottom of the seventh innings. Blevins pitched 1 1 1 1/3 scoreless innings and picked up his fifth win. RHP Paul Sewald pitched a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning. RHP Addison Reed pitched a scoreless bottom of the ninth inning and converted his 19th save of the season.

Mets Acquire AJ Ramos

The New York Mets announced tonight that they have acquired  Marlins closer RHP AJ Ramos for single-A prospects Merandy Gonzalez and Ricardo Cespedes. Ramos has been the Marlins closer the last three years with a total of 92 saves. This year he has 20 saves with a 3.63 ERA. Ramos is under the Mets control for next year.

Mets Activate Brandon Nimmo Off Disabled List

The New York Mets activated outfielder Brandon Nimmo from the disabled list and optioned RHP Tyler Pill to Triple A-Las Vegas.

Neil Walker Activated Off DL

The New York Mets announced today that 2B Neil Walker has been activated off the 10-day disabled list. Infielder T.J. Rivera has been placed on the disabled list with a partial tear of the UCL in his right elbow.

Mets vs. Padres Game 100 Recap

The New York Mets lost to the San Diego Padres 7-5 last night for their second consecutive loss and dropped their record to 47-53. RHP Chris Flexen made his MLB debut and had a difficult first outing. Flexen allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits in three innings. He gave up four walks and had three strikeouts. RHP Tyler Pill came in next and pitched a scoreless bottom of the fourth inning, but allowed three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. LHP Josh Edgin followed with a scoreless bottom of the sixth inning. RHP Fernando Salas pitched a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning. RHP Erik Goeddel pitched a scoreless bottom of th eighth inning.
RF Jay Bruce got the Mets offense off to a good start after grounding into a force out in the top of the first inning, which brought home a run. In the top of the seventh inning. LF Yoenis Cespedes hit a RBI double. SS Asdrubsl Cabrera scored on a balk and Bruce drove in two runs with a two-run homer.

Mets Trade Lucas Duda

The New York Mets announced today that they have traded 1B Lucas Duda to the Tampa Bay Rays for RHP pitching prospect Drew Smith. Duda hit .246 with 21 doubles, 17 homers, and 37 RBI's for the Mets this year. Smith is rated as the 30th best prospect in the Rays minor league system. He was a third round pick in 2015 with a 1.60 ERA and 0.91 WHIP in four different minor league levels as a reliever. Smith is a hard thrower with a fastball at 96 mph with an above average curveball and has the potential to be a future set up man.

The New York Mets lost to the San Diego Padres 6-3 last night to snap their two-game winning streak and drop their record to 47-52.  LHP Steven Matz had another outing rough outing and lasted only three innings. Matz gave up six runs on nine hits. He allowed no walks and had four strikeouts. RHP Erik Goedell came in next and pitched a scoreless bottom of the fourth inning. RHP Tyler Pill followed with two scoreless innings in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings. RHP Hansel Robles pitched two scoreless innings in the bottom of the seventh and eighth innings.

SS Jose Reyes drove in the first run of the game for the Mets with an RBI single in the top of the second inning. He also drew a based-loaded walk in the top of the sixth. 2B Wilmer Flores added a solo homer in the top of the eighth.

The New York Mets defeated the San Diego Padres 6-5 last night for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 47-51. RHP Seth Lugo got the start and was not sharp as he's been in his previous outings. Lugo allowed four runs (three earned) on eight hits in six innings. He gave up no walks and had three strikeouts. Even though he didn't have his best stuff, he was still able to pick up his fifth win. RHP Paul Sewald came in next and pitched two scoreless innings in the bottom of the seventh eighth innings. RHP Addison Reed allowed a run in the bottom of the ninth inning, but still managed to close it out and pick up his 18th save.

LF Yoenis Cespedes led the Mets offense with three RBI's. Cespedes hit a solo homer in the top of the first inning as well as a RBI double in the top of the fifth inning and a RBI triple in the top of the sixth inning and then came around to score on a throwing error. Catcher Travis d'Arnaud hit a RBI single in the top of the fourth inning. 3B Asdrubal Cabrera added a RBI double in the top of the fifth inning.

The New York Mets defeated the San Diego Padres 5-3 last night to snap their one-game losing streak and improved their record to 46-51. RHP Jacob deGrom had another outstanding start allowing two runs on five hits in eight innings. Degrom gave up two walks and had eight strikeouts. He picked up his eighth consecutive win and 12th win overall. RHP Addison Reed came on in the bottom of the ninth to close it out and allowed a lead-off homer to Hunter Renfroe, but settled down after that and managed to get out of the inning. Reed picked up his 17th save of the year.

1B Wilmer Flores got the Mets offense going with a solo homer in the top of the second inning. LF Yoenis Cespedes hit a RBI triple in the top of the third inning. RF Jay Bruce followed with a RBI single. In the top of the fifth inning, Bruce hit another RBI single. In the top of the eighth, SS Jose Reyes had an infield hit and then stole second for his 500th career stolen base. Catcher Travis d'Arnaud followed with a RBI single.

Mets Call Up Chris Flexen

The New York Mets announced tonight that they called up RHP Chris Flexen from Double-A Binghamton and will start in place of RHP Zack Wheeler on Thursday night. Flexen has been dominating Double-A with a record of 6-1 and a 1.66 ERA with 50 strikeouts in 48.2 innings. He has a lot of life on his fastball and can throw up to 96 mph and also has a sharp curveball. Flexen is the first Met to be called up from Double-A since OF Michael Conforto in 2015.

Zack Wheeler To Go on DL

The New York Mets announced earlier today that RHP Zack Wheeler has been placed on the disabled list with a stress reaction in his right arm. RHP Tyler Pill has been called up from minor leagues as a corresponding roster move. Wheeler has struggled this year with a record of 3-7 in 17 starts and an ERA of 5.21, 5.03 WHIP, and 1.587 WHIP. He has 81 strike-outs and 40 walks in  86.1 innings. Pill has made five appearances and three starts for the Mets this year. In 18 innings, he had had 14 strikeouts and seven walks with a 5.00 ERA, 4.54 FIP and 1.500 WHIP. It is unknown at this time when Wheleer will be able to return.

Mets vs. Athletics Game 96 Recap

The New York Mets lost to the Oakland Athletics 3-2 today to snap their four-game winning steak and drop their record to 45-51. RHP Rafael Montero had a solid start allowing three runs on seven hits in seven innings. Montero was hurt by the long ball after giving up three solo homers, but otherwise pitched well. He gave up four strikeouts and had one walk. RHP Fernando Salas came in next and pitched a scoreless top of the eighth inning. LHP Josh Smoker pitched a scoreless top of the ninth inning.

LF Michael Conforto continued his hot hitting since the All-Star break with a solo homer in the bottom of the third inning to tie the game at 1. SS Jose Reyes hit a RBI ground-out in the bottom of the sixth inning, which wound up being the last run the Mets would score.

The New York Mets defeated the Oakland Athletics 6-5 tonight for their fourth consecutive win and improved their record to 45-50. RHP Zack Wheeler got the start and had another rough outing. Wheeler allowed five runs on seven hits in five innings. He gave up four walks and had six strikeouts. LHP Josh Smoker came in next and picked up a scoreless top of the sixth inning. LHP Josh Edgin pitched two scoreless innings in the top of the seventh and eighth innings. RHP Hansel Robles pitched a scoreless top of the ninth inning and picked up his sixth win of the season.

The Mets offense was scoreless for the first five innings, but woke up in the bottom of the sixth inning and scored four runs. RF Jay Bruce hit a two-run homer. Catcher Travis d'Arnaud hit a RBI double. CF Michael Conforto hit a RBI double. In the bottom of the eighth inning, 1B Lucas Duda hit a game-tying pinch-hit single to tie the game. In the bottom of the ninth inning, 2B Wilmer Flores hit his second career walk-off homer with two outs in the inning.

Mets vs. Athletics Game 94 Recap

The New York Mets defeated the Oakland Athletics 7-5 tonight for their third consecutive win and improved their record to 44-50. CF Michael Conforto led the Mets offense with two homers and four RBI's. Conforto hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the third inning and hit another two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning. 3B T.J. Rivera hit a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth inning and came around to score on an error by 3B Matt Chapman.

LHP Steven Matz got the start and allowed three runs on nine hits in five innings. Matz gave no walks and had six strikeouts. RHP Hansel Robles pitched a scoreless top of the sixth inning and picked up his fifth win. RHP Paul Sewald pitched a scoreless top of the seventh inning. RHP Erik Goedell came on in the top of the eighth inning and allowed three hits and a run before being pulled. RHP Addison Reed came in next and gave up a walk and an inherited run and was then taken out.  LHP Jerry Blevins closed it out with a five-out save, which was his first save on the season.

Mets vs. Cardinals Game 93 Recap

The New York Mets defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 3-2 today for their second consecutive win to split their four game series and improved their record to 43-50. SS Jose Reyes drove in the winning run in the bottom of ninth inning after the Cardinals failed to cover first base on a groundout. Infielder Wilmer Flores hit a game-tying pinch hit homer in the bottom of the eighth inning. 1B Lucas Duda hit a solo homer in the bottom of the fourth inning.
RHP Seth Lugo allowed one run in seven innings. RHP Erik Goedell allowed a run in the top of the eighth inning. RHP Addison Reed pitched a scoreless top of the ninth inning and picked up his first win.

Mets Activate Josh Smoker

The New York Mets announced before today's game that they have activated LHP Josh Smoker from the 10-day disabled list and designated RHP Neil Ramirez for assignment. Smoker had a 7.45 ERA in 29 games for the Mets this year. Ramirez had a 6.43 ERA, 1.714 WHIP and 17 walks for the Mets.

Mets vs. Cardinals Game 92 Recap

The New York Mets defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 7-3 tonight to snap their three-game losing streak and improve their record to 42-50. The Mets offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first inning scoring three runs. LF Yoenis Cespedes hit a RBI single. 1B Lucas Duda hit a RBI double. 3B Wilmer Flores added a RBI single. In the bottom of the second inning, the Mets added four more runs. RF Jay Bruce hit a RBI single. Cespedes drove in his second RBI of the game with an RBI double. SS Jose Reyes capped off the inning with a two-run double. After the early barrage, the offense had three hits the rest of the game.

RHP Jacob deGrom had another terrific start allowing one run on seven hits in 6 2/3 innings. Degrom gave up one walk and had three strikeouts. He picked up his 11th win on the season and seventh win in his last seven starts. RHP Paul Sewald came in next and got the last out in the top of the seventh inning. Sewald came back out for the top of the eighth and was taken out with two outs in the inning and two runners on base. LHP Jerry Blevins appeared next and had a difficult appearance and was unable to get out of the inning. Blevins allowed two hits, one walk and two inherited runs and was not able to record an out. RHP Addison Reed came in and managed to get the last four outs and pick up his 16th save.

The New York Mets lost to the St. Louis Cardinals 5-0 tonight for their third consecutive loss and dropped their record to 41-50. RHP Rafael Montero got the start and was hurt by his poor infield defense. Montero allowed a sacrifice fly to 3B Jed Gyorko after 3B T.J. Rivera made a error to set up the run. In the top of the second inning, he allowed another run after SS Jose Reyes failed to turn a double play on a  ground ball by Cardinals RHP Michael Wacha. 1B Matt Carpertar followed with an RBI double. LF Tommy Phan reached on another error by Rivera to bring home run. That would be the last run that he would give up. Montero allowed four runs (two earned) on seven hits in six innings. He gave up one walk and had five strikeouts. RHP Fernando Salas came in next and allowed an unearned run in two-thirds of an innings. LHP Josh Edgin and RHP Neil Ramirez combined to pitch a scoreless top of the eighth inning. RHP Hansel Robles pitched a scoreless top of the ninth inning.

The Mets offense was shutdown by Cardinals starter RHP Michael Wacha and managed only three hits.

Mets vs. Cardinals Game 90 Recap

The New York Mets lost to the St. Louis Cardinals 6-3 for their second consecutive loss and dropped their record to 41-49. RHP Zack Wheeler had a strong start for the first five innings, but it all unraveled in the top of the sixth. Wheeler allowed a solo homer to SS Paul DeYoung and a RBI pitcher to Cardinals starter RHP Adam Wainright and then was taken out. He ended up allowing four runs on seven hits in 5 1/3 innings. Mets Recall Hansel Robles

The New York Mets announced after today's game against the Colorado Rockies that they have recalled RHP Hansel Robles from Triple-A Las Vegas and optioned reliever RHP Chasen Bradford to Triple-A. Robles was 4-1 with a 6.23 ERA, 6.23 FIP, 1.569 WHIP and 9.6 K/9 in 21 games for the Mets earlier this year. He has pitched better in Triple-A allowed no runs in his five appearances and seven out of his last eight appearances. Robles is 0-1 with a 5.79 ERA 23 1/3 innings for the 51s this year.

Mets vs. Rockies Game 89 Recap

The New York Mets lost to the Colorado Rockies 13-4 today to drop their record to 41-48, but were still able to take two out of three games in the series. LHP Steven Matz had another rough outing allowing seven runs on nine innings in 1+ innings pitched. Matz gave four runs in the top of the first inning and three runs in the top of the second inning on a three-run homer by 3B Nolan Arenado. RHP Erik Goedell followed with two scoreless innings. RHP Fernando Salas came in next and allowed two runs in two innings. RHP Chasen Bradford appeared next and also two run in two innings on a two-run inside the park homer by CF Charlie Blackmon. RHP Neil Ramirez allowed two runs in two innings as well on a two-run homer by LF Geraldo Parra.

The Mets offense showed off its power with three of its four runs coming off of the home run. 1B Lucas Duda hit a solo homer in the bottom of the fourth inning. SS Asdrubal Cabrera hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth. SS Jose Reyes added a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Mets vs. Rockies Game 88 Recap

The New York Mets defeated the Colorado Rockies 8-3 tonight for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 41-47. RF Jay Bruce got the Mets offense off to a fast start with a three-run homer in the bottom of the first inning. Catcher Travis d'Arnaud added a RBI single in the bottom of the first. 3B T.J. Rivera hit a RBI single in the bottom of the second inning. 1B Lucas Duda drove in another run in the bottom of the second with an RBI double. RHP Seth Lugo hit his first career homer in the bottom of the third inning. SS Jose Reyes hit a solo homer in the bottom of the eighth inning.

In addition to Lugo's success at the plate, he did well on the mound allowing three runs on seven hits in 6 2/3 innings. He gave up two walks and had five strikeouts. He picked up his fourth win. RHP Paul Sewald came in next and got the last out in the top of the seventh and the first out in the top of the eighth on two strikeouts. LHP Jerry Blevins came in next recorded the last two outs in the top of the eighth inning also with two strikeouts. RHP Addison Reed closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth inning.

Mets vs. Rockies Game 87 Recap

The New York Mets defeated the Colorado Rockies 14-2 tonight to snap their two-game losing streak and improved their record to 40-47. The Mets offense scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning after catcher Travis d'Arnaud hit a RBI ground-out and starting pitcher RHP Jacob deGrom hi a RBI single. In the bottom of the third inning, the Mets exploded for six runs with six hits and two walks. 3B T.J. Rivera drove in two runs with a two-run double. SS Jose Reyes hit a RBI single. CF Michael Conforto hit a RBI ground-out and SS Asdrubal Cabrera hit a two-run single. Reyes added a solo homer in the bottom of the fourth. Conforto capped off his great night at the plate with a three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh. In the bottom of the eighth inning, SS Asdrubal Cabrera drew a based-loaded walk and reached on an infield hit which brought home a run. The Mets offense had 19 hits and seven walks on the night.

RHP Jacob deGrom had another outstanding start allowing two runs on four hits in eight innings. He gave up one walk and had eleven strikeouts. Degrom picked up his 10th win of the season. LHP Josh Edgin closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth inning.

Mets vs. Cardinals Game 86 Recap

The New York Mets lost to the St. Louis Cardinals 6-0 today to drop their record to 39-47 and lost two out of three games in their last series before the All-Star break. LHP Steven Matz had his most difficult start of the season. Matz allowed five runs on seven hits in 4 1/3 innings. He gave up one walk and had one strikeout. This was the first time that Matz didn't go at least six innings after 10 consecutive  starts and also had his scoreless inning streak snapped at 17 innings. RHP Erik Goedell followed and allowed an inherited run on an RBI single to catcher Yadier Moliana. It was the first time this year that Goedell had given up an inherited run. RHP Seth Lugo followed and allowed one run in three innings. Lugo had three strikeouts and one walk and gave the bullpen a much needed rest.

The Mets offense was lifeless all afternoon and had only three hits. It was the third time that the Mets were shut out this year.

Mets vs. Cardinals Game 85 Recap

The New York Mets lost to the St. Louis Cardinals 4-1 today to snap their one-game losing streak and drop their record to 39-46.  RHP Zack Wheeler had a solid start and pitched better after struggling in his last few innings, but took the loss. Wheeler allowed two runs on eight hits in six innings. He gave up one walk and had five strikeouts. RHP Fernando Salas allowed a run in the bottom of the seventh and was unable to get out of the inning. RHP Erik Goedell came in next and got the last out in the bottom of the seventh after striking out catcher Yadier Moliana with the based loaded. RHP Rafael Montero came in next and allowed a run in the bottom of the eighth. LHP Josh Edgin followed after Montero was pulled and gave up a walk to the only batter he faced. RHP Neil Ramirez struck out the only batter he would face to end the bottom of the eighth.

RF Jay Bruce drove in the only run of the game with a solo homer in the top of the seventh inning.

Brandon Nimmo Goes On DL

The New York Mets announced today that OF Brandon Nimmo has been placed on the disabled list with a partially collapsed lung. OF Michael Conforto has been activated off of the disabled list with am corresponding roster move.

Mets vs. Cardinals Game 84 Recap

The New York Mets defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 6-3 tonight to snap their two-game losing streak and improve their record to 39-45. The Mets offense got off to a quick start in the top of the first inning after 3B T.J. Rivera was hit by a pitch with the based loaded.. SS Jose Reyes hit a solo homer in the top of the second inning. In the top of the fourth inning, catcher Travis d'Arnaud hit a RBI single and RF Curtis Granderson hit a RBI double. RF Jay Bruce hit a solo homer in the top of the fifth. Rivera drove in another run in the top of the seventh with an RBI double.

RHP Jacob deGrom allowed four runs on eight hits in seven innings. He gave up four solo homers, no walks and had five strikeouts. He picked up his ninth win on the season. LHP Jerry Blevins allowed a run in the bottom of the eighth. RHP Paul Sewald came in next and was able to finish off the inning. RHP Addison Reed pitched a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth inning and picked up his 15th save on the season.

Mets vs. Nationals Game 83 Recap

The New York Mets lost to the Washington Nationals 11-3 for their second consecutive loss and dropped their record to 38-45. RHP Seth Lugo got the start and had a difficult outing after a strong first two innings. Lugo allowed RBI singles to RF Bryce Harper and 2B Daniel Murphy in the bottom of the second. In the bottom of the fifth, it all unraveled for Lugo as he allowed five straight hits to start the inning. He allowed four runs in the inning and was taken out after he allowed a two-run double to LF Ryan Raburn. Lugo allowed six runs on ten hits in five innings. He gave up two walks and had three strikeouts. RHP Erik Goeddel came in next and allowed a two-run single to 2B Daniel Murphy. LHP Josh Edgin followed and gave up a RBI groundout to 1B Adam Lind. RHP Neil Ramirez appeared next and pitched a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning, but allowed two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning after RF Bryce Harper reached on an infield hit which brought home a run and Murphy hit a RBI double. RHP Chasen Bradford had to come in and get the last two outs in the bottom of the eighth.

The Mets offense got off to a fast start after SS Jose Reyes hit a lead-off homer in the top of the first. Catcher Rene Rivera hit a solo homer to tie the game in the bottom of the fourth. RF Jay Bruce added a two-run homer in the top of the ninth.

Mets vs. Nationals Game 82 Recap

The New York Mets lost to the Washington Nationals 3-2 tonight for their second consecutive loss and dropped their record to 38-44. LHP Steven Matz had an outstanding start with seven shutout innings and allowed four hits. He gave up two walks and had no walks. Matz ended up with a no-decision. LHP Jerry Blevins allowed a two-run homer to CF Michael Taylor in the bottom of the eighth inning. RHP Paul Sewald allowed a walk in the bottom of the ninth, before being pulled for LHP Josh Edgin. Edgin gave up a walk to Stephen Drew and got Adam Lind to fly out.  RHP Fernando Salas followed and allowed a walk-off single to Ryan Raburn.

The Mets offense was scoreless until the top of the ninth inning and got a clutch pinch-hit two-run homer from Curtis Granderson.

Michael Conforto Selected To First All-Star Game

Major League Baseball announced earlier tonight that New York Mets OF Michael Conforto was named to the 2017 National All-Star team. This is Conforto's first All-Star game appearance.  He has hit .285 with 14 homers, 41 RBI's and 47 runs for the Mets this year. Conforto has had four lead-off homers which lead the NL and is tied for third-most in the majors. He is the second youngest Met outfielder to make an All-Star Team after Darryl Strawberry and 12th Mets outfielder named to an All-Star Team. Conforto is the only Met to have made the All-Star team this year.

Mets vs. Phillies Game 81 Recap

The New York Mets lost to the Philadelphia Phillies 7-1 today to snap their four-game winning streak and drop their record to 38-43. RHP Rafael Montero got the start and allowed four runs on eight hits in 6 1/3 innings. Montero gave up four runs in the top of the second inning, but settled down after that. He gave up two walks and had six strikeouts. RHP Chasen Bradford came in next and struggled in his relief appearance. Bradford allowed three runs on four hits in 1 1/3 innings. He gave up no walks and had one strikeout. RHP Neil Ramirez followed with 1 1/3 scoreless innings.

The Mets offense struggled against Phillies starter RHP Nick Pavetta and had only one run and two hits. The only run they were able to score was on a solo homer by 3B T.J. Rivera in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Mets vs. Phillies Game 80 Recap

The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 7-6 tonight for their fourth consecutive win and improved their record to 38-42, RHP Zack Wheeler made his first start since coming off the disabled list and had a difficult time with his command. Wheeler allowed two unearned runs on two hits in 3 2/3 innings and threw 88 pitches.  He gave up two walks and had four strikeouts. He wound up with a no-decision. RHP Erik Goedell came in next and allowed a run on two hits in 1 2.3 innings. RHP Fernando Salas pitched a scoreless top of the sixth inning and came back for the top of the seventh inning allowing three runs on a three-run homer to 1B Tommy Joseph. Salas was still able to pick up his first win after the offense bailed him out with four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. RHP Paul Sewald got the first two outs in the top of the eighth, but had to come out of the game after a 57 minute rain delay. After the rain delay, RHP Addison Reed got the last four outs and picked up his fourteenth save.

The Mets offense got a big hit from 2B Asdrubal Cabrera who hit the go ahead two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh. 3B T.J. Rivera hit a solo homer in the bottom of the seventh. Pinch-hitter Wilmer Flores hit a RBI single. SS Jose Reyes hit a RBI double in the bottom of the second inning. 1B Lucas Duda hit a solo homer in the bottom of the fourth. RF Jay Bruce hit a RBI ground-out in the bottom of the fourth.
