The New York Mets lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers 8-0 tonight in Game 3 of the NLCS at Citi Field and are now down 2-1 in the series.

RHP Luis Severino had a nice 1-2-3 inning in the top of the first with two strikeouts, but had a tough top of the second.

Severino gave up a lead-off walk to 3B Max Muncy and then catcher Francisco Alvarez made a throwing error which allowed Muncy to reach second.

Two batters later, Severino then failed to turn a double play on a comebacker back to the mound on a grounder by SS Gavin Lux which allowed LF Tesoscar Hernandez and Muncy to reach second and third.

Severino allowed the following hitter catcher Will Smith to reach on an infield hit which brought home a run.

Severino then gave up a sacrifice fly to the following hitter CF Tommy Edman.

Severino was able to settle down after that with scoreless innings in the top of the third and fourth and was taken out with two outs in the top of the fifth.

His final line was 4.2 innings, three hits, two runs (0 earned runs), four walks and three strikeouts.

RHP Reed Garrett came in next and struck out Tesoscar Hernandez to end the inning.

Garrett stayed in for the top of the sixth and gave up a two-run homer to 3B Kiki Hernandez and was taken out after the inning.

RHP Tylor Megill followed and threw a scoreless top of the seventh, but in the top of the eighth, he gave up a three-run homer to DH Shohei Ohtani.

Megill stayed in for the top of the ninth and gave up a solo homer to Muncy.

The Met offense wasted numerous scoring opportunities and were unable to come up with a timely hit.

They went 0-4 with runners in scoring position leaving eight runners on base.

After a scoreless bottom of the first, the offense had the based loaded with one out in the bottom of the second, but catcher Francisco Alvarez and SS Francisco Lindor struck out to end the inning.

In the bottom of the third, DH J.D Martinez struck out with two outs and runners on first and second.

In the bottom of the sixth, 2B Jose Iglesias grounded into a double play with two runners on to end the inning and the offense did not have any more threats after that.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Thursday, October 17 in Game 4 of the NLCS at home against the Dodgers at 8:08 p.m.
