Mets Beat Dodgers 7-3 in Game 2 of NLCS Behind Vientos Grand Slam

The New York Mets beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 7-3 this afternoon at Dodger Stadium to even the National League Championship Series to even the series 1-1.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first after SS Francisco Lindor led off with a homer.

In the top of the second, RF Starling Marte led off with a single and then DH Jesse Winker followed with a walk.

Two batters later, CF Tyrone Taylor drove in Marte with a RBI double.

Two batters later, SS Francisco Lindor was intentionally walked to load the bases and then 3B Mark Vientos came up and broke the game open with a grand slam.

The offense did not do much for the next six innings until the top of the ninth after 1B Pete Alonso walked with one out and then stole second.

Marte followed with a RBI single.

LHP Sean Manaea cruised through the first five innings only allowing a solo homer to 3B Max Muncy, but then ran into trouble in the bottom of the sixth.

Manaea gave up a couple of walks and then 2B Jose Iglesias made a costly error which loaded the bases and was then taken out.

His final line was five innings, two hits, three runs, four walks and seven strikeouts.

He picked up his second win of the postseason.

RHP Phil Maton came in next and gave up a two-run single to SS Tommy Edman, but was able to settle down after he got 2B Kiki Hernandez to ground into a double play to end the inning.

Maton came back out for the bottom of the seventh and walked DH Shohei Ohtani with one out and was then taken out.

RHP Ryne Stanek followed and struck out RF Mookie Betts and retired LF Tesoscar Hernandez on a ground-out to end the inning.

Stanek came back out for the bottom of the eighth and retired the first two hitters he faced and then gave up a single to Edman and walked Muncy and was then taken out.

RHP Edwin Diaz came back and retired Hernandez on a pop-up to end the inning.

Diaz stayed in for the bottom of the ninth and gave up a lead-off single to CF Andy Pages and walked Ohtani.

Diaz was able to settle down and strikeout Betts, Hernandez and 1B Freddie Freeman to close it out and pick up his second save of the postseason.

The Mets are off tomorrow and return to action on Wednesday, October 16 back at Citi Field in Game 3 of the NLCS against the Dodgers at 8:08 p.m.
