Mets Lose to Phillies 7-6 in Game 2 of NLDS After Blowing Late Lead

The New York Mets lost to the Philadelphia Phillies 7-6 this afternoon in Game 2 of NLDS and now the series is tied at 1-1 each.

RHP Luis Severino cruised through the first five innings and then ran into trouble in the bottom of the sixth.

Severino retired the first two hitters he faced and then gave up a single to SS Trea Turner and a two-run homer to the following hitter 1B Bryce Harper and a solo homer to the following hitter RF Nick Castellanos and was taken out after the inning.

His final line was six innings, six hits, three runs, 0 walks and seven strikeouts.

RHP Jose Butto came in next and picked up two outs while also allowing a hit by pitch and walk and was taken out.

RHP Edwin Diaz came in next and struck out DH Kyle Schwarber to end the inning.

Diaz stayed in for the bottom of the eighth and walked Harper with one out and then gave up a single to Castellanos.

Diaz gave up a two-run triple to the following hitter 2B Bryson Stott and was taken out after that.

RHP Tylor Megill came in next and gave up a RBI ground-out to catcher J.T. Realmuto and then retiring the next two hitters he faced.

Megill stayed in for the bottom of the ninth and retired the first two hitters he faced before walking Turner and Harper and then giving up the walk-off single to Castellanos.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first two innings until the top of the third after SS Francisco Lindor singled with one out and then 3B Mark Vientos followed with a two-run homer.

In the top of the sixth, 1B Pete Alonso led off with a solo homer.

In the top of the seventh, LF Brandon Nimmo hit a solo homer.

In the top of the ninth, Lindor singled again with one out and then Vientos followed with another two-run homer to tie the game.

The Mets offense struggled all game with timely hits and went 0-7 with runners in scoring position leaving seven runners on base.

The Mets are off tomorrow and return to action back at home at Citi Field on Tuesday, October 8 in Game 3 of the NLDS at 5:08 p.m.
