Mets Sign Aledandro De Aza

The Mets announced today that they have signed free agent outfielder Aledandro De Aza to a 1 year contract worth 4.5 million. De Aza can play all three outfield positions and will serve as a lefty platoon to Juan Lagares. De Aza replaces Kirk Nieuwenhuis as the fifth outfielder. He has a lifetime average of .267 with an on-base percentage of .331 and a slugging percentage of .401. He's hit a total of 30 triples and has 86 career stolen bases. I like that the Mets have upgraded their bench and didn't spend more on Denard Span, who is more injury prone. I'm still hoping that they can resign Yoenis Cespedes as the starting centerfielder and have Lagares and De Aza and 4th and 5th outfielders.

Mets Resign Bartolo Colon

The Mets announced today that they have resigned RHP Bartolo Colon to a 1 year deal worth $7.25 million. Colon is coming off another successful season with a record of 14-13 and an ERA of 4.16. This was a solid signing since the Mets needed a 5th starter after Jon Niese was traded. Colon is a great veteran to have had at the back end of the rotation. He will be a real veteran leader for the Mets young starters Matt Harvey, Jacob deGrom, Steven Matz, and Noah Syndergarrd.

Mets Sign Jerry Blevins

The Mets announced today that they have signed LHP Jerry Blevins for a 1 year deal worth $4 million. There is $1 million in performance bonuses. Last year, Blevins was awesome in April posting an ERA of 0.00 in April before fracturing his left forearm on a line drive. He never pitched again rest of season after reinjuring his left forearm hurt after slipping on a curb. Hopefully Blevins can regain the form that he showed in April. The Mets need him to be a real solid lefty out of the pen since it was something they really lacked last year.

Mets Leftfielder Michael Cuddyer Announces Retirement

Last night, Mets leftfielder Michael Cuddyer announced his retirement. This is coming off an injury plagued 2015 season where he only hit .259 with 10 homers and 41 RBIs. He never gave the Mets the kind production they were hoping for. He was going to get $12.5 million this year, but his early retirement allows the Mets to have some extra money freed up to sign some other free agents for centerfielder or the bullpen. Hopefully Cuddyer's retirement means that they will make an attempt to resign Yoenis Cespedes. They now have plenty of money to spend in order to resign him. Cudder was a lifetime .277 hitter with 197 homers and 794 RBIs in 15 seasons with the Minnesota Twins, Colorado Rockies, and New York Mets. He was a two-time all-star. He also won a Silver Slugger Award. His best season came in 2013 with the Rockies when he won the batting title with an average of .331 with 20 homers and 84 RBIs. I wish Cuddyer the best of luck in his retirement. I could see becoming a manager or coach in the future. In the meantime, it would be great if the Mets hired him as the bench coach for this coming season with Bob Gueren leaving for the LA Dodgers.

Mets Sign Asdrubal Cabrera

The Mets announced tonight that they have signed infielder Asdrubal Cabrera to a 2 year contract that's worth 18.5 million. Last year, Cabrera was on the Tampa Bay Rays and prior to that he was on the Washington Nationals. He has spent the majority of his career with the Cleveland Indians. Cabrera's a 2 time all-star with a lifetime batting average of .267 with a career on-base percentage of .329 and a slugging percentage of .412. He will provide the Mets with a lot of versatility since he can play shortstop, 2nd baseman, and 3b. He will start primarily at shortstop, but can also fill in for David Wright at 3b and play some 2nd as well. This was the perfect move for the Mets to make. Their infield is much more solidified with Cabrera at SS and Neil Walker at 2B. Now they can focus fully on centerfield and the bullpen.

Mets Acquire Neil Walker

The Mets announced today that they have acquired 2B Neil Walker from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for LHP Jon Niese. This was a move the Mets had to make in response to losing out on Ben Zobirist to the Chicago Cubs. Walker is a solid hitter who had 16 homers and 74 RBI's last year. He is a very solid defender as well and will help improve the Mets defense up the middle. I think that Walker can provide some power in the lineup  as a switch hitter in addition to his defense. I think that Walker can provide a real good bat and also help the infield defense. Hopefully the Mets can build off this and add a centerfielder and some help in pen.

Terry Collins Recieves 2 Year Contract Extension

The Mets announced this morning that manager Terry Collins will be getting a 2 year contract extension through the 2017 season. He will be making slightly more than $1 million per season. I think this is a very fair extension. TC has earned it for the tremendous job he did this year. Hopefully next year, he will receive his first World Series ring.

Matt Harvey gave up 2 runs in 8 innings. Curtis Granderson hit his 3rd homer of the World Series. Lucas Duda added a sac fly. It was a tough way for the Mets to be eliminated, but there is a lot to be proud of this season. They have a great shot to get back to the World Series next year with their dominant pitching staff and some new additions to the bullpen and middle infield.

Kansas City Royals Scouting Report

Last night, the Mets found out their opponent in the World Series will be the Kansas City Royals after they defeated the Blue Jays 4-3 in Game 6 of the ALCS. This is their second consecutive World Series appearance after they lost to the San Francisco Giants last year. The Royals main strength is their bullpen. Even after losing closer Greg Holland, their pen is still just as effective with Kelvin Herrera in the 7th, Ryan Madison in the 8th, and Wade Davis as closer. Their rotation is also very solid with Johnny Cueto, Edison Volquez, Kris Medlen, and former Met Chris Young. They are tough to stop on the basepaths and some of their best base stealing threats are Jarrod Dyson, Alcides Escobar, and Lorenzo Cain. Eric Hosmer, Mike Moustakis, Salvador Perez, Kendrys Morales, and Lorenzo Cain. It will be a great series between two teams that have a lot of young talent.

Game 5 NLDS: Mets vs. Dodgers Recap

Last night, the Mets defeated the Dodgers 3-2 to win Game 5 of the NLDS and advance to the NLCS! Daniel Murphy was the start of the game with 2 RBIs and a key stolen base to help set up the tying run. Travis d'Arnaud had a key sac fly to tie the game. Tomorrow night, the Mets start Game 1 of the NLDS against the LA Dodgers at 9:45. The pitching matchup is Jacob deGrom vs. Clayton Kershaw. It should be a low scoring game and 1-2 runs could be the difference. I expect the Mets lineup to be similar to the lineup they've typically used against LHP. Curtis Granderson, Daniel Murphy and Lucas Duda should be the only lefties to start. It sounds like Ruben Tejada will get the start at SS since he is better defensively than Wilmer Flores and Flores has been dealing with strep throat. I think the Mets can definitely win tomorrow night. They won 2-1 against Kershaw on July 3rd 2-1 when their lineup was not nearly as good as it is now. Hopefully degrom can regain the form that he showed in the first half and the pen can close it out. I still worry about Tyler Clippard in the 8th inning, but I have a lot of confidence in Jeurys Familia. I can't wait to watch some playoff baseball tomorrow night. Let's Go Mets!

Mets Send Down Logan Verrett To Triple A

The Mets announced today that they have sent down RHP Logan Verret to Triple A to make room for Addison Reed on 25 man roster. Verrett has done a fine job as a spot starter and middle reliever this year posting an ERA of 0.93. Mets Acquire Addison Reed

The Mets announced tonight that they have acquired reliever RHP Addison Reed from the Arizona Diamondbacks pending a physical. Reed, 26. has posted a 4.20 ERA this season with a WHIP of 1.50 along with 3 saves and 8 holds. He has fared much better against left-handed batters holding them to an average of only .242 and an OPS of .672. He has much worst numbers against RHP with a .310 batting average and an OPS of .832. I think that this was a good move by Sandy Alderson. He needed to acquire another arm in the bullpen along in addition to Tyler Clippard and Jeurys Familia. Hopefully Reed can be a viable option in the 7th inning that the Mets have been looking for and help get the ball to Clippard and Familia at the end of a game and help secure a win.

The Mets announced after the game last night that they have sent down catcher Kevin Plawecki to Triple A in Las Vegas and recalled catcher Anthony Recker. Plawecki was hitting only .228 with 2 homers and 17 RBI's with 8 doubles and an on-base percentage of .283. In Triple A, Recker was hitting .257 with 8 homers and 21 RBIs. This move will allow Plawecki the opportunity to play every day for the remainder of the minor league season. He will be back with the Mets on September 1st when the roster expands and the minor league season ends.

Mets Destinate Alex Torres For Assignment And Acquire Eric O'Flaherty

The Mets announced tonight that they have designated LHP Alex Torres and acquired LHP Eric O'Flaherty from the Oakland A's for cash and a player to be named later.  O'Flaherty is not having a very good season for the A's with an ERA of 5.91, but has held lefties to an average of only .186 in 50 at-bats. This was a great pickup for the Mets since they needed to have a true lefty specialist in the pen with the injury to Jerry Blevins and Alex Torres not pitching very effectively. He will play a big role when the Mets have to play teams with big lefty bats such as Bryce Harper from the Nationals or Andre Ether from the Dodgers.

Mets Recall Michael Conforto

The Mets announced that LF Michael Conforto will be recalled after placed OF Kirk Niuwenhuis on the DL today. I hope Conforto will be able to get plenty of at-bats. Ideally, I'd like to see him play LF, Yoenis Cespedes in CF, and Curtis Granderson in RF.

Mets Send Down Michael Conforto

The Mets sent down LF Michael Conforto to Triple A after acquiring Yoenis Cespedes yesterday. This was expected since this move will allow Conforto to play every day and give him plenty of at-bats. He showed a lot of promise in his brief stint with the team and even had a 4 hit game in his second career game. I think this will really help Conforto become more developed as a hitter. I hope to see him get recalled when the rosters expand in September.

Mets Acquire Yoenis Cespedes

The Mets announced that they have acquired OF Yoenis Cespedes from the Detroit Tigers in exchange for minor league pitchers Michael Fulmer and Luis Cessa. Cespedes is having a great year hitting .293 with 18 homers and 61 RBIs. This is a huge trade since Sandy Alderson needed to make a move to upgrade the offense after failing to get Carlos Gomez. Cespedes will add power to a lineup that already has Lucas Duda, Curtis Granderson, and Travis d'Arnaud returning tonight. Hopefully this will be the move that will help the Mets overtake the Nationals and win the division.

Mets Acquire Tyler Clippard

The Mets announced today that they have acquired reliever Tyler Clippard from the Oakland A's in exchange for minor league pitcher Corey Meisner. The Mets received $ 1 million from the A's in cash.  Eric Goeddel was placed on 60 day DL as corresponding roster move. Clippard is a 2 time All-Star  who is having another solid season with 17 saves and a 2.79 ERA. He has 38 strikeouts in 38.2 innings. This will another huge acquisition for the Mets since they have now a set up man for Jeurys Familia. It makes the bullpen even stronger in addition to having Bobby Parnell and Jenrry Meija as options in the 7th inning.

Jacob Degrom Dominates In All-Star Game

Last night, Mets starter Jacob deGrom had an incredible All Star Game debut. He struck out the side in the 6th inning on only 10 pitches. It was an amazing performance and so much fun to watch. I'm glad that Jacob was able to show a national audience how dominant he is. Met fans have known this for quite some time.

Steven Matz Placed On DL

Mets LHP Steven Matz has been placed on DL. Danny Muno has been called up as corresponding roster move.

Mets LHP Steven Matz Is Going On DL

The Mets announced today that LHP Steven Matz ( 2-0, 1.32 ERA) is headed to the DL with a significant lat injury. He will miss at least several weeks. This is very disappointing news since Matz was off to an amazing start and won his first 2 games. Hopefully this isn't as serious as it appears to be. They need Steven Matz to be healthy going forward since he is a huge part of their future.

Should The Mets Trade For Geraldo Parra?

There has been a lot of talk about the Mets can upgrade their offense. There has a lot of speculation about whether the Mets will trade for big bats such as Troy Tulowitzki or Justin Upton. However, I think that trading for Brewers outfielder Geraldo Parra makes perfect sense. He is hitting .309 with 8 homers and 26 RBI's. He has hit 20 doubles, scored 70 runs, and has an OPS of .870. He can play all 3 OF positions and has a really strong arm. He can also beat leadoff, which is something the Mets really need. I think that if Sandy Alderson was able to trade for Parra, the Mets offense would instantly be improved as well as having as having a stronger outfield defense.

Jenry Meija Is Back After 80 Game Suspension

Mets reliever Jenrry Meija is eligible to play in tonight's game after being suspended for 80 games due to taking PEDs. Logan Verrett was sent to Triple A as corresponding roster move. Mets Call Up Kirk Nieuwenhuis

The Mets announced today that OF Kirk Nieuwenhuis will be called up from Triple A in Las Vegas. Darrell Cecillani will be sent down as corresponding roster move. Nieuwenhuis hit .293 with 7 homers and 20 RBI's in Vegas. He has only hit .100 combined with the Mets and Angels. I don't see why this move makes sense since Kirk has not shown he can hit at big league level. I would have rather have him come up if Michael Cuddyer was placed on DL.

What Is Wrong With The Mets?

Today the Mets lost 6-1 and were swept by the Chicago Cubs. They scored only 1 run in 3 games. The offense looks lifeless and can't even get runners in scoring position. The only run that was driven in was a RBI double by Curtis Granderson. As bad as the team's offense is, the fundamentals are just as bad. Today, Daniel Murphy made an error which led to a run and was also picked off 1b in the first inning. Last night, Ruben Tejada was thrown out at 3b in the 8th inning in a one run game after missing a sign on a squeeze play. It's becoming harder to watch this team day after day. There is no accountability in the organization. Sandy Alderson has not improved the offense at all. He just makes jokes about it and says the media is acting like Panic City. Under Terry Collins as manager, the team has the worst fundamentals and doesn't know how to make the routine plays or run the bases properly. I'm sick of the ineptitude of this organization. Going back to 2009, the team has gotten worse every season. It's disheartening to see such a great pitching staff and star closer's efforts wasted by an awful offense and poor defense. I'm becoming fed up and I'm so frustrated and angry by how unwatchable this team is. Mets fans deserve better. We've waited long enough.

Yesterday, Mets LHP Steven Matz had a storybook debut that was something out of a Hollywood script. In front of many family and friends, he pitched 7 1/3 outstanding innings. He only gave up 2 runs with 2 solo homers to Brandon Phillips and Todd Frazier. He was mixing in all of his pitches and showed off his fastball and curveball. However, the real story of Matz's debut was his bat. He became the first Mets pitcher to go for 3-3 in his debut with 4 RBIs. He had a 2 run double and 2 run single. With the way the Mets offense has been going, Matz needed to drive in all the runs he could. It was so exciting to see Matz dominate on the mound and at the plate. I think it was the best MLB debut a pitcher has ever had. It was a wonderful start for Steven Matz and I think there will be many more exciting moments in the future. The future is very bright for him and all of the Mets other star young pitchers.

Mets Top Prospect Steven Matz Makes His MLB Debut Today

Today, Mets top pitching prospect LH Steven Matz makes his long-awaited debut against the Cincinnati Reds. Matz grew up in Stony Brook, NY as a die-hard Mets fan. He remembers watching Endy Chavez's catch in Game 7 of the 2006 NLCS. He was a first round pick in the 2009 draft out of Ward Medville, HS. He lost 3 years in the minor leagues after having to undergo Tommy John Surgery. After recovering from Tommy John, he rose quickly through each level of the Minor Leagues. This year pitching for the Las Vegas 51's in Triple A, he posted a record of 7-4 with an ERA of 2.19 and 94 strikeouts in 90 1/3 innings. There has been a lot of hype about Matz and he has been compared to superstar lefties Madison Bumgarter and Clayton Kershaw. Hopefully Matz can live up to the tremendous hype placed on him and become another terrific young pitching in the Mets prospect along with Jacob deGrom, Matt Harvey, and Noah Syndergarrd.

The Brillance of Jacob DeGrom

Mets starter Jacob deGrom continued his dominant stretch today pitching 8 shutout innings. He picked up his 8th win and is now 8-5 with a 2.15 ERA. He has allowed 2 runs or less in his last 8 starts. If not for the bullpen blowing one of his starts and a bad play by Wilmer Flores, he could have 10 wins. He has mixing in all of his pitches so well. He has been the ace of the staff. The way he's been pitching, he will most likely add an All-Star game appearance to his resume as well as Rookie of the Year. What an amazing start of a career considering he only came up last May.

Mets Call Up Logan Vereet And Send Akeel Morris To Double A

The Mets announced last night that they are calling up Logan Verrett from Triple A in Las Vegas. They have demoted Akeel Morris to Double A after a poor performance last night where he gave up 5 runs. Vereet was on the Texas Rangers earlier this year and was reacquired by the Mets. Hopefully he help add some depth to the pen and eat some innings.

Could Bobby Parnell Emerge As the Setup Man?

Last night, Mets reliever Bobby Parnell picked up his first save since 2013. He was thrown right into the fire in the 8th inning and wound up getting a 5 out save. This is a huge step forward for Parnell since he had just come off Tommy John Surgery. His velocity is not quite there yet, but he has a sharp knuckle curve to keep hitters off balanced. I think that Parnell will only continue to get better. The Mets are counting on him to be the set up man to Jeurys Familia since Vic Black is most likely not coming back anytime soon. I think that Parnell is more than up for the challenge.

Mets Desiginate Dillon Gee For Assignment

The Mets announced today that they are designating Dillon Gee for assignment. He was 0-3 this year with a 5.90 ERA. In six seasons with the team, he posted  a record of 40-37 with an ERA of 4.03. Yesterday, he gave up 8 runs against the Atlanta Braves. It's no secret the Mets and Gee have been odds the last couple of seasons. They tried to trade him last offseason to the Texas Rangers, but weren't able to close the deal. This year, after a poor start, the Mets moved Gee to the bullpen, but had go back to being a starter for yesterday's game. I think this is the right move for the Mets and Gee. Both parties needed to move to one another. It's a shame that Gee went from being a solid 5th starter a few seasons ago to the worst starter on the team.

Game 65: Mets vs. Blue Jays Starting Lineup and Pitching Matchup

9. Noah Syndergarrd-RHP

The pitching matchup is Noah Syndergarrd ( 2-4, 4.15 ERA) vs. LHP Mark Buehlre ( 7-4, 4.25 ERA)

Mets Call Up Reliever Akeel Morris From Single A

The Mets announced yesterday that they are going to bring up RHP Akeel Morris from Single A in St. Lucie. Morris, 22 was drafted out of 2010 First-Year player draft. He graduated from Charlotte Amalie High School in U.S. Virgin Islands. He has spent the last 6 years in Single A. In 2015, with St. Lucie, he posted a record of 0-1 with a record of 0-1 and 12 saves along with a 1.74 ERA in 23 games. This move will help provide an extra arm in the bullpen since our pen is very taxed after not having Jeurys Familia for a few games due to paternity leave. I think this is a great opportunity for Morris to show what he can do. He will most likely be here for only for a few games, but if he does well, he could be here longer. I would like to see the Mets put him in the 8th inning as an option as a set up man to Familia since we have no viable options right now.

The pitching matchup is Jon Niese ( 3-6, 4.43 ERA) vs. RHP Tim Linnecum ( 6-3, 3.29 ERA)

Is It Time For the Mets To Put Matt Harvey on DL?

Mets starter Matt Harvey has hit a bump in the road after starting off the season 5-0. Last night against the Giants, he gave up 7 runs and blew a 4-2 lead. He also gave up 7 runs against the Pirates earlier this year. He has not had the same command of his fastball that showed earlier in the season. It's more straight and right over the middle of the plate. It's expected that Harvey was going to show rust after coming off Tommy John surgery and having not pitched for 18 months. I think it might be time for the Mets to put him on the DL and give him 15 days to rest his arm. This might help him later in the season and could allow him to stay fresh for the stretch run in August and September. I think this would make the sense and help the Mets long term.

Mets Catcher Travis d'Arnaud Returns To Lineup

The Mets announced today that Travis d'Arnaud will be returning to the lineup tonight after fracturing his hand on April 19th. Prior to his injury, d'Arnaud was hitting .317 with 2 homers and 10 RBI's. He will provide a huge boost to the lineup since the Mets offense has really struggled since he was hurt. I'm so glad that TDA is finally back. It's been a long time coming. Hopefully he will hit the ground running and not a beat. We need him to hit like he was pre-injury for this lineup to finally start scoring some runs.

Can This Mets Offense Get Any Worse?

Last night, the Mets offense reached a low point when they were no-hit by Giant starter Chris Heston. They can't produce any runs and are now struggling to even get hits. Fortunately, Travis d'Arnaud is back tonight which should help this team score some runs. However, it won't solve all the problems.  They still need other hitters to step up. Michael Cuddyer and Curtis Granderson have been major disappointments this year. Lucas Duda has struggled since coming back from injury. In order for the Mets to sore more runs, they need to have Duda, Cuddyer, and Granderson produce. I think the offense will start to come around. They need to start tonight and give Matt Harvey some run support.

Mets Draft Desmond Lindsey With 53th Overall Pick

Last night in the 2015 MLB Draft, the Mets drafted Desmond Lindsey with the 53th overall pick in the second round. They lost their first round pick when they signed Michael Cuddyer as a free agent. Lindsey is 18 years old and graduated from Out of Door Academy in Bradenton, FL. He was committed to the University of North Carolina before being drafted by the Mets. He bats right-handed and is projected to be a prospect who can hit for power as well as show speed on the base paths. His natural position is center field, but he can also play some first base. It's impossible to project how draft picks will turn out, but hopefully we will see Lindsey in the major leagues in a few years along with the Mets other outfield prospects Brandon Nimmo and Michael Conforto.

Mets Move Dillon Gee To Bulpen

The Mets announced yesterday that starting pitcher Dillon Gee will be moved to the bullpen. This is no surprise, since Gee has been the team's worst starter this season with a record of 0-3 and a 4.26 ERA. Hopefully this move will help Gee get straightened out. If he starts to pitch well, then the Mets can move him back in rotation. If Gee is able to pitch well as a starter, then the Mets might be able to find a trade partner for him, which is something they've been trying to do last 2 seasons.

Daniel Murphy Placed On 15 Day DL

The Mets announced today that second baseman Daniel Murphy was placed on the 15-day DL with a left quadriceps injury. Danny Muno has been recalled. In his previous call-up, he had one hit in 17 at-bats. This is a crushing blow to the Mets offense they have already lost David Wright, Travis d'Arnaud, and Dilson Herrera. In the meantime, Eric Campbell will most likely get the majority of the starts at 3b while Ruben Tejada plays 2b and Wilmer Flores remains at SS. Hopefully Michael Cuddyer, Curtis Granderson, and Lucas Duda can hit well in Murph's absence until he comes back and well as getting d'Arnaud and Herrera get healthy.

How Much Longer Should The Mets Live With Dillon Gee in Starting Rotation?

It's no secret the Mets have been trying to trade Dillon Gee. They tried trading him in the offseason to the Texas Rangers, but a deal wasn't able to be made. This offseason, Gee has continued to struggle with a record of 0-3 and a ERA of 4.46. He just came off the DL due to groin issues. I think that Gee has worn out his welcome. With Steven Matz dominating in Triple A, he is on a very short leash. I think it's time that the Mets move Gee to the pen and call up Matz since he has no trade value at this point. If they are serious about being contenders this year, they need to throw out their best starters and can't afford to have bad starts by Gee or even Jon Niese cost them a playoff spot. Dillon Gee has been a decent 5th starter for several years, but it's time for the Mets to move on from him. They need to just have a rotation made up of young studs Matt Harvey, Noah Syndergarrd, Jacob deGrom, and Steven Matz as well as Bartolo Colon for the remainder of the season in order to either hopefully win the NL East or win the wild card.

Has Ruben Tejada Showed Enough To Start At Third Base?

Throughout the last few seasons, Ruben Tejada has been much maligned by the Mets fans, media, front office, and even Manager Terry Collins for his lack of offensive production at shortstop and poor defense. This year, he lost his starting shortstop job to Wilmer Flores and has been used as a utility player with an occasional start. With David Wright being out with spinal stenosis, Tejada has played third base the last few games. Even though it's only been a small sample size, his offense has improved with a 3 run double in Saturday's game, and an go-ahead RBI single in yesterday's win. He has focused on hitting line drives and not tried to hit homers with a long uppercut swing. His defense has gotten better as well and has become more comfortable making longer throws to first as well as starting double plays. I think that Ruben Tejada has earned more starts at third base. The Mets don't have any other options since Eric Campbell and Danny Muno have not shown to be everyday Major League players. Even though Tejada is not the long term answer, I think for the time being he has done enough to show he can start at 3rd base until Wright returns.

Thor The Guy Who Can Do It All

Mets starting pitching Noah Syndergarrd ( aka Thor) has quickly made a strong impression on the mound with his 98 mph fastball and sharp curve. He has lived up to the hype so far and has shown why he was considered to be one of the top prospects in baseball. Today, Thor pitched 7 1/3 shutout innings against the Phillies. He was mixing it all of his pitches and making the Phillies very unbalanced with his fastball and curve. Ron Darling noted on the broadcast that his changeup is still a work in progress, but will only get better as he gains more experience. In addition to his awesome day on the mound, Thor went 3 for 3 at the plate, including his first career home run. He crushed it to center field and hit it well over 400 feet. It was impressive power for the 22 year old rookie, which he showed pitching for the Las Vegas 51s in Triple A, hitting a homer in his last at-bat before getting called up. I can't wait to see how Thor continues to develop on the mound and at the plate. His future is so bright along with the Mets other young starters Matt Harvey and Jacob Degrom as well as left-hander Steven Matz once he is called up. The Mets will have a special rotation for years to come.

How Has Wilmer Flores Exceeded Expectations?

There were a lot of question marks coming into the season whether Wilmer Flores could make it as the Mets starting shortstop. So far, he has proven the doubters wrong by a team-leading 7 home runs and 19 RBI's. He has becoming more confident at the plate and is showing to hit for more power at the plate, including a grand slam and a go-ahead 3 run homer in yesterday's win. After a rough start defensively, he is also becoming more comfortable in the field and has made less errors in the last few errors. He is making more accurate throws and showing improved footwork. I think Flores will only continue to get better as the season progresses and show off more power. I think now with the news of David Wright's spinal spenosis, the Mets should consider moving Wilmer to third base since that is his natural position and will improve the infield defense and allow him to feel comfortable in the field.
