Mets Destinate Alex Torres For Assignment And Acquire Eric O'Flaherty

The Mets announced tonight that they have designated LHP Alex Torres and acquired LHP Eric O'Flaherty from the Oakland A's for cash and a player to be named later.  O'Flaherty is not having a very good season for the A's with an ERA of 5.91, but has held lefties to an average of only .186 in 50 at-bats. This was a great pickup for the Mets since they needed to have a true lefty specialist in the pen with the injury to Jerry Blevins and Alex Torres not pitching very effectively. He will play a big role when the Mets have to play teams with big lefty bats such as Bryce Harper from the Nationals or Andre Ether from the Dodgers.
