The New York Mets lost to the Atlanta Braves 5-3 tonight at Truist Park in Atlanta, Georgia to get swept in their three-game series to fall two games out of first place in the NL East and dropped their record to 98-61.

RHP Chris Bassitt got off to a tough start in the bottom of the first after he gave up a solo homer to SS Dansby Swanson, but had a scoreless bottom of the second.

Bassitt had a scoreless bottom of the second, but ran into more trouble in the bottom of the third after he gave up a lead-off single to 2B Orlando Arcia and then walked the following hitter RF Ronald Acuna Jr.

Three batters later, Bassitt walked 1B Matt Olson to load the bases and then gave up a two-run single to the following hitter catcher Travis d'Arnaud and was taken out.

His final line was 2.2 innings, three hits, four runs, three walks and two strikeouts.

RHP Trevor May followed with 1.1 scoreless innings.

RHP Seth Lugo came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the fifth, and then stayed in for the bottom of the sixth and gave up a solo homer to Olson.

RHP Drew Smith followed and got only out in the bottom of the seventh.

LHP Joely Rodriguez had to come in to get the last two outs in the inning.

Rodriguez came back for the bottom of the eighth and struck out Olson to start the inning and was taken out.

RHP Edwin Diaz followed and got the last two outs to end the inning.

In the top of the second, DH Daniel Vogelbach hit a solo homer and then LF Mark Canha and CF Brandon Nimmo singled later in the inning, but SS Francisco Lindor struck out to end the inning.

In the top of the third, RF Jeff McNeil homered to start the inning and then 1B Pete Alonso and Eduardo Escobar followed with singles.

Vogelbach then singled to load the bases, but Canha popped up and 2B Luis Gullorme struck out and catcher James McCann grounded out to end the inning.

The bats did not do much after and wasted several scoring opportunities.

They went 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left nine runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Monday, October 3rd at home against the Washington Nationals at 7:10 p.m.
