The New York Mets beat the Washington Nationals 8-0 tonight at Citi Field to sweep their doubleheader and improved their record to 100-61.

The offense got off to a blazing start in the bottom of the first after CF Brandon Nimmo, SS Francisco Lindor and RF Jeff McNeil all homered to start the game.

1B Pete Alonso then reached on an infield hit and DH Daniel Vogelbach and 3B Eduardo Escobar followed with walks to load the bases.

LF Mark Canha then hit a sacrifice fly and 2B Luis Guillorme followed with a RBI double.

Two batters later, Nimmo capped off the inning with a two-run single, his third RBI of the inning.

The bats did not do much do after that until the bottom of the sixth when catcher Francisco Alvarez hit a towering solo homer for his first career hit, RBI and run.

RHP Taijuan Walker threw 4.1 scoreless innings allowing four hits and no walks with 10 strikeouts.

RHP Stephen Nogosek followed with 2.2 scoreless innings and gave up three hits and no walks with six strikeouts.

RHP Tylor Megill closed it out with two scoreless innings in the top of the eighth and ninth.

The Mets have one more regular season tomorrow, Wednesday, October 6th at home against the Washington Nationals at 4:10 p.m.
