Mets Beat Nationals 4-2 Led By Nimmo

 The New York Mets beat the Washington Nationals 4-2 this afternoon at Citi Field in the first game of the doubleheader and improved their record to 99-61.

After a scoreless bottom of the first, LF Mark Canha was hit by a pitch with one out in the bottom of the second and then two batters later, catcher Tomas Nido singled.

RF Brandon Nimmo followed with a two-run double.

In the bottom of the third, 2B Jeff McNeil led off with an infield hit and then advanced to second on a wild pitch.

1B Pete Alonso and 3B Eduardo Escobar then walked to load the bases.

Two batters later, Canha came through with a sacrifice fly.

In the bottom of the fourth, Nimmo came through once again with a solo homer.

RHP Carlos Carrasco did not have his best outing allowing two runs on five hits in four innings.

He gave up one walk with three strikeouts.

RHP Drew Smith followed with a scoreless top of the fifth.

LHP David Peterson threw a scoreless top of the sixth,

RHP Adam Ottavino came in next and threw 1.2 scoreless innings and picked up his sixth win.

RHP Edwin Diaz closed it out with 1.1 scoreless innings and picked up his 32th save.

The Mets next game is tonight against the Nationals a half hour after the first game.
