The New York Mets lost to the Atlanta Braves 4-2 tonight at SunTruist Park in Atlanta, Georgia for their second consecutive loss and dropped their record to 98-60 and have now dropped to second place in the National League East.

RHP Max Scherzer started out well with three scoreless innings, but ran into trouble in the bottom of the fourth after he gave up a lead-off double to 3B Austin Riley and then a RBI single to the following hitter 1B Matt Olson.

Scherzer had a scoreless bottom of the fourth, but had another tough inning in the bottom of the fifth after he gave up a one-out single to RF Ronald Acuna Jr and a two-run homer to the following hitter SS Dansby Swanson.

Scherzer came back for the bottom of the sixth and gave up a lead-off homer to Olson, but then retired the next two hitters he faced and was taken out.

His final line was 5.2 innings, nine hits, four runs, 0 walks and four strikeouts.

RHP Seth Lugo came in next and got the last out in the bottom of the sixth.

RHP Adam Ottavino threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh.

LHP David Peterson got the first two outs in the bottom of the eighth.

RHP Drew Smith came on to get the last out in the bottom of the eighth.

In the top of the first, CF Brandon Nimmo led off with a single and 1B Pete Alonso followed with a walk.

SS Francisco Lindor then struck out, but 2B Jeff McNeil followed with a single to load the bases.

3B Eduardo Escobar then grounded out to first to bring in a run and DH Daniel Vogelbach struck out to end the inning.

The offense was held scoreless for the first three innings until the top of the fifth after Alonso and Lindor singled with two outs and then McNeil came through with a RBI single.

The bats did not do much for the rest of the game and struggled with men on base going 2-6 with runners in scoring position leaving seven runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Sunday, October 2, at the Braves at 7:08 p.m. on ESPN on Sunday Night Baseball.
