Mets Swept By Pirates 12-1 Behind Rough Start From Montas

The New York Mets lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates 12-1 this afternoon at PNC Park and were swept in the three-game series to drop their record to 48-37.

RHP Frankie Montas had a chance to escape out of a based loaded jam with two outs in the bottom of the first, but was unable to do so after he gave up a two-run single to 3B Ke'Bryan Hayes.

It only got worse for Montas in the inning after he then gave up back-to-back homers to CF Oneil Cruz and LF Tommy Pham.

Montas gave up another run in the bottom of the second on a sacrifice fly by DH Andrew McCutchen.

Montas was able to settle down after that with scoreless innings in the bottom of the third and fourth and came back after the fourth. 

His final line was four innings, seven hits, six runs, one walk and five strikeouts.

LHP Richard Lovelady came in next in the bottom of the fifth and gave up a solo homer to RF Bryan Reynolds and later in the inning, a RBI single to Pham.

Lovelady stayed in for the bottom of the sixth and threw a scoreless inning.

RHP Dedniel Nunez followed in the bottom of the seventh and gave up a two-run homer to Cruz.

OF Travis Jankowski came on in the bottom of the eighth and gave up two singles and a hit by pitch to load the bases and then gave up two runs before getting a 5-4-3 double play to end the inning.

The Met offense did not do much outside of a solo homer by catcher Luis Torrens in the top of the fifth.

The top four hitters in the lineup SS Francisco Lindor, LF Brandon Nimmo, RF Juan Soto and 1B Pete Alonso combined to go 2-15 with four strikeouts.

The Mets are off tomorrow and return back to action on Tuesday, July 1 at home at Citi Field against the Milwaukee Brewers at 7:15 p.m.

Mets Lose To Pirates 9-2 After Bullpen Falls Apart in Eighth Inning

The New York Mets lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates 9-2 tonight at PNC Park for their second consecutive loss and dropped their record to 48-36.

RHP Paul Blackburn started out with a scoreless bottom of the first, but after a 89-minute rain delay, came back for the bottom of the second and lost all his momentum.

Blackburn gave up five straight singles before leaving the game with the based loaded.

RHP Jose Butto came in next and gave up a sacrifice fly, but was able to settle down after that retiring the next three hitters he faced.

LHP Brandon Waddell followed and did an outstanding job with three scoreless innings in the bottom of the fourth, fifth and sixth.

RHP Reed Garrett threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh.

RHP Huascar Brazoban came on in the bottom of the eighth and had another difficult outing with two hits and two walks before leaving with the based loaded.

RHP Collin Poche followed in his season debut and had a rough time allowing all three inherited runs to score and then two more runs.

In the top of the first, SS Francisco Lindor led off with a double and two batters later, RF Juan Soto drove in Lindor with a RBI single.

After scoreless innings in the top of the second, third and fourth, 1B Pete Alonso doubled with one out in the top of the fifth and LF Brandon Nimmo followed with a RBI single.

The Met offense was unable to score any more runs after that and their struggles with runners in scoring position continued after the went 2-8 with RISP and left nine runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Sunday, June 29 at the Pirates at 1:35 p.m.

Mets Lose To Pirates 9-1 After Peterson Allows Five Runs

The New York Mets lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates 9-1 tonight at PNC Park and dropped their record to 48-35.

LHP David Peterson started out well with a 1-2-3 bottom of the first, but it all fell apart in the bottom of the second.

Peterson gave up a one-out walk to catcher Joey Bart and then gave up a single to 3B Ke'Bryan Hayes.

Peterson allowed a RBI single to the following hitter 1B Jared Triolo and a RBI double to the next hitter CF Alexander Canario.

Peterson then gave up a RBI single to SS Isiah Kiner-Falefa and LF Tommy Pham grounded into a fielder's choice to bring in another run.

Peterson had scoreless innings in the bottom of the third and fourth, but in the bottom of the fifth, gave up a RBI double to RF Bryan Reynolds and three batters later, a RBI double to Hayes.

Peterson was then taken out and his final line was 4.2 innings, seven hits, five runs, three walks and five strikeouts.

RHP Blaine Tidwell came in next and had a difficult outing allowing a three-run homer to Reynolds in the bottom of the sixth and a RBI single to Reynolds in the bottom of the seventh.

Tidwell stayed in for the bottom of the eighth and threw a scoreless inning.

His final line was 3.1 innings, five hits, four runs, two walks and one strikeout.

The Met offense did not do much outside of a solo homer by RF Juan Soto in the top of the fourth.

They went 0-9 with runners in scoring position leaving eight runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Saturday, June 28 at the Pirates at 4:05 p.m.

Mets Beat Braves 4-0 With Stellar Bullpen and Clutch Hitting After Losing Canning To Injury

The New York Mets beat the Atlanta Braves 4-0 tonight at Citi Field for their second consecutive win to split the four-game series and improved their record to 48-34.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first three innings against RHP Grant Holmes, but in the bottom of the fourth, RF Juan Soto led off with a walk, 1B Pete Alonso followed with a single and two batters later, CF Tyrone Taylor drove in Soto with a sacrifice fly.

In the bottom of the fifth, SS Francisco Lindor and DH Brandon Nimmo singled with one out and two batters later, Alonso drove in Lindor with a RBI single.

In the bottom of the seventh, Soto singled with two outs, Alonso followed with a double and then LF Jeff McNeil broke the game open with a two-run single.

RHP Griffin Canning cruised through the first two innings and after giving up a lead-off single in the top of the third, had to leave the game after he suffered a non-contact ankle injury. Canning was down for several minutes and had to be helped off the field and was unable to put any pressure on his leg.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said after the game that the team is waiting an MRI, but it is believed to be an Achilles injury.

RHP Austin Warren had to come in a emergency relief situation and did a fantastic job with 2.1 scoreless innings allowing one hit and no walks with two strikeouts in his second appearance of the season.

Warren picked up his first win of the season.

RHP Dedniel Nunez and had a fine performance as well retiring all six hitters he faced including striking out the side in the top of the seventh.

RHP Ryne Stanek threw a scoreless top of the eighth.

RHP Edwin Diaz closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Friday, June 27 at the Pittsburgh Pirates at 6:40 p.m.
