Mets Eliminated by Dodgers 10-5 in Game 6 of NLCS After Manaea Struggles and Offense Fails To Come Up With Timely Hits

The New York Mets lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers 10-5 in Game 6 of the National League Championship Series and lose the series 4-2.

LHP Sean Manaea cleary did not have his best stuff starting in the bottom of the first due to decreasing fastball velocity after he gave up a lead-off single to DH Shohei Ohtani and two batters later a single to LF Teoscar Hernandez.

Manaea then gave up a two-run double to 2B Tommy Edman.

Manaea was able to get a scoreless bottom of the second, but then ran into more trouble in the bottom of the third.

Manaea gave up a lead-off single to Hernandez and then a two-run homer to Edman and walked 1B Max Munch and was then taken out.

RHP Phil Maton followed and after retiring the first two hitters he faced, gave up a two-run homer to catchee Will Smith and was taken out after the inning.

RHP Edwin Diaz came in next and threw two scoreless innings in the bottom of the fourth and fifth and was then taken out.

RHP Ryne Stanek followed in the bottom of the sixth and gave up a lead-off walk to Smith and two batters later, a RBI single to Ohrani and was then taken out.

RHP Reed Garrett came in next and retired the next three hitters he faced to end the inning.

RHP Kodai Senga followed with a scoreless bottom of the seventh, but then had a rough bottom of the eighth.

Senga gave up a lead-off single to 2B Chris Taylor and then walked Ohtani.

Senga then gave up a RBI double to the following hitter RF Mookie Betts and a sacrifice fly to the following hitter Teoscar Hernandez.

Later in the inning, Senga gave up a RBI single to Kiki Hernandez and was then taken out with two outs.

RHP Jose Butto had to come in and retired CF Andy Pages on a fly out to center to end the inning.

The Met offense got on the board early in the top of the first after SS Francisco Lindor led off with a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch.

LF Brandon Nimmo followed with a ground-out to second to advance Lindor to third and two batters later, 1B Pete Alonso drove in Lindor with an infield single.

In the top of the second, catcher Francisco Alvarez walked and Lindor singled with two outs, but Nimmo popped out to second to end the inning.

In the top of the third, Alonso reached first on another infield single with one out and then DH Jesse Winker walked.

Two batters later, CF Tyrone Taylor was hit by a pitch to load the bases with two outs, but then 2B Jeff McNeil struck out to end the inning.

In the top of the fourth, catcher Francisco Alvarez led off with a single and three batters later, 3B Mark Vientos hit a two-run homer for his fifth homer of the postseason along with 18 hits and 14 RBI.

After a scoreless top of the fifth, Alvarez singled to lead off the top of the sixth and then Vientos and Alonso walked to load the bases with two outs.

Winker had a chance to cut into the lead, but flew out to left to end the inning.

In the top of the seventh, Taylor and McNeil singled with one out and then Alvarez drove in Taylor with a sacrifice fly.

After a scoreless top of the eighth, Taylor singled with two outs in the top of the ninth and McNeil followed with a RBI single.

Alvarez grounded out to second for the final out of the game.

The Met offense had numerous chances to deliver with men on base, but were unable to come up with big hits.

They went 2-9 with runners in scoring position leaving nine runners on base.

The Mets now look ahead to the offseason and will be interesting to see what moves David Steans makes to improve this roster.

Mets Rout Dodgers 12-6 Behind Powerful Offense To Win Game 5 of NLCS And Avoid Elimination

The New York Mets beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 12-6 this afternoon in Game 5 of the NLCS at Citi Field to stave off elimination and now trail the series 3-2.

The Mets offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first after SS Francisco Lindor led off with a single and LF Brandon Nimmo followed with a walk.

Two batters later, 1B Pete Alonso blasted a three-run homer.

After a scoreless bottom of the second, Alonso walked to lead off the bottom of the third and DH Jesse Winker followed with a walk.

RF Starling Marte then hit a two-run double. 

Three batters later, catcher Francisco Alvarez hit a RBI single.

Lindor then hit a RBI triple.

Nimmo followed with a RBI single.

In the bottom of the fourth, Alonso led off with a hit by pitch and Winker followed with a RBI triple.

Three batters later, 2B Jeff McNeil drove in Winker with a sacrifice fly.

After a scoreless bottom of the fifth, Winker led off with a hit by pitch in the bottom of the sixth and Marte followed with a double.

Two batters layter, McNeil drove in Winker with another sacrifice fly.

After a scoreless bottom of the seventh, Alonso singled to lead off the bottom of the eighth and Winker followed with a single.

Marte then drove in Alonso with a RBI single.

LHP David Peterson worked out of a second and third and no out jam in the top of the first and then gave up a run in the top of the second on a wild pitch.

Peterson had a scoreless top of the third and retired the first two hitters he faced in the top of the fourth, but then gave up a solo homer to CF Andy Pages and then gave up a single to DH Shohei Ohtani and walked RF Mookie Betts and LF Teoscar Hernandez to load the bases and was then taken out.

RHP Reed Garrett came in next and struck out 1B Freddie Freeman on a 3-2 backdoor slider to end the inning.

Peterson's final line was 3.2 innings, six hits, two runs, four walks and three strikeouts.

Garrett stayed in for the top of the fifth and gave up a three-run homer to Pages and was taken out with two outs in the inning.

RHP Ryne Stanek followed and struck out Ohtani to end the fifth.

Stanek came back out for the top of the sixth and gave up a lead-off homer to Betts, but then came back to strike out Hernandez, 1B Freddie Freeman and 2B Tommy Edman flew out to centerfield to end the inning.

Stanek stayed in for the top of the seventh and had a 1-2-3 inning and was taken out.

His final line was 2.1 innings, one hit, one run, 0 walks and four strikeouts.

He picked up his first win of the postseason.

RHP Edwin Diaz then closed it out with two out scoreless innings in the top of the eighth and ninth.

The Mets are off tomorrow and return back to action on Sunday, October 20 at the Los Angeles Dodgers for Game 6 of the National League Championship Series at 8:08 p.m.

Mets Crushed By Dodgers 10-2 In Game 4 of NLCS Due To Poor Pitching and Lack of Timely Hitting And On Brink of Elimination

The New York Mets lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers 10-2 tonight at Citi Field in Game 4 of the National League Championship Series and are now down 3-1 in the series.

LHP Jose Quintana got off to a tough start in the top of the first after he gave up a lead-off homer to DH Shohei Ohtani.

Quintana was able to have a scoreless top of the second, but then ran into trouble in the top of the third.

He gave up a one-out walk to Ohtani and then gave up a single to the following hitter RF Mookie Betts.

Two batters later, Quintana gave up a RBI double to 2B Tommy Edman and a RBI single to the following hitter 3B Kiki Hernandez.

Quintana stayed in for the top of the fourth and gave up a infield hit to 2B Chris Taylor and walked Ohtani and was then taken out.

RHP Jose Butto came in next and gave up a two-run double to Betts,

Butto stayed in for the top of the fifth and threw a scoreless inning.

In the top of the sixth, Butto walked Ohtani with one out and was then taken out.

RHP Phil Maton came in next and gave up a two-run homer to Betts,

Maton stayed in for the top of the seventh and picked up his first two outs.

LHP Danny Young had to come in to get the last out in the top of the seventh.

Young stayed in for the top of the eighth and gave up a lead-off single to Betts and then walked LF Teoscar Hernandez.

Young then gave up a two-run double to the following hitter Edman and three batters later, a RBI sibgle to catcher Will Smith.

Young stayed in for the top of the ninth and threw a scoreless inning.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first after 3B Mark Vientos hit a solo homer.

They had their best chance to score with the based loaded and one out in the bottom of the third, but LF Brandon Nimmo grounded into a fielder's choice and then RF Starling Marte grounded to shortstop to end the inning.

The Met offense was unable to get any timely hit all night going 0-10 with runners in scoring position leaving 12 runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Friday, October 18 at home against the Dodgers at 5:08 p.m.

Mets Shutout By Dodgers 8-0 In Game 3 of NLCS After Offense and Defense Fall Apart

The New York Mets lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers 8-0 tonight in Game 3 of the NLCS at Citi Field and are now down 2-1 in the series.

RHP Luis Severino had a nice 1-2-3 inning in the top of the first with two strikeouts, but had a tough top of the second.

Severino gave up a lead-off walk to 3B Max Muncy and then catcher Francisco Alvarez made a throwing error which allowed Muncy to reach second.

Two batters later, Severino then failed to turn a double play on a comebacker back to the mound on a grounder by SS Gavin Lux which allowed LF Tesoscar Hernandez and Muncy to reach second and third.

Severino allowed the following hitter catcher Will Smith to reach on an infield hit which brought home a run.

Severino then gave up a sacrifice fly to the following hitter CF Tommy Edman.

Severino was able to settle down after that with scoreless innings in the top of the third and fourth and was taken out with two outs in the top of the fifth.

His final line was 4.2 innings, three hits, two runs (0 earned runs), four walks and three strikeouts.

RHP Reed Garrett came in next and struck out Tesoscar Hernandez to end the inning.

Garrett stayed in for the top of the sixth and gave up a two-run homer to 3B Kiki Hernandez and was taken out after the inning.

RHP Tylor Megill followed and threw a scoreless top of the seventh, but in the top of the eighth, he gave up a three-run homer to DH Shohei Ohtani.

Megill stayed in for the top of the ninth and gave up a solo homer to Muncy.

The Met offense wasted numerous scoring opportunities and were unable to come up with a timely hit.

They went 0-4 with runners in scoring position leaving eight runners on base.

After a scoreless bottom of the first, the offense had the based loaded with one out in the bottom of the second, but catcher Francisco Alvarez and SS Francisco Lindor struck out to end the inning.

In the bottom of the third, DH J.D Martinez struck out with two outs and runners on first and second.

In the bottom of the sixth, 2B Jose Iglesias grounded into a double play with two runners on to end the inning and the offense did not have any more threats after that.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Thursday, October 17 in Game 4 of the NLCS at home against the Dodgers at 8:08 p.m.
