Mets Acquire Orioles LHP Gregory Soto

The New York Mets acquired LHP Gregory Soto from the Baltimore Orioles for pitching prospects Wellington Areacena and Cam Foster.

Soto has a 3.96 ERA with a 1.29 WHIP and 10.9 K/9 in 36 1/3 innings this season.

His main pitchers are a sinker and slider combination with a four-seam fastball and sweeper.

His primary pitch is his sinker which he throws 51 % of the time and his slider at 35%.

His sinker is an average of 96.5 mph, slider 86.6 mph and four-seam fastball at almost 98 mph.

Soto was a two-time All-Star with the Detriot Tigers back in 2021 and 2022 as a closer where he had 48 saves in those two seasons.

He will paired up with LHP Brooks Raley as the Mets two lefty options out of the bullpen.

It will be interesting to see what other moves General Manager David Stearns makes between now and July 31st to address the bullpen.

Mets Beat Angels 6-3 To Complete Sweep After Lindor Breaks Out of Slump and Alonso and Nimmo homer

The New York Mets beat the Los Angeles Angels 6-3 this afternoon at Citi Field to complete three-game series and fourth consecutive win overall to improve their record to 59-44.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first after LF Brandon Nimmo led off with a homer.

After a scoreless bottom of the second, CF Tyrone Taylor led off the bottom of the third with a walk and Nimmo followed with a hit by pitch.

SS Francisco Lindor followed by breaking out of his 0-31 slump with a RBI single.

Two batters later, 1B Pete Alonso broke the game open with a three-run homer.

In the bottom of the fourth, 3B Mark Vientos led off with a double and three batters later, Nimmo singled.

Lindor came up next and delivered another RBI single.

LHP Sean Manaea had a dominating top of the first striking out the side and then worked out of a based loaded jam in the top of the second.

Manaea gave up a solo homer to DH Mike Trout in the top of the third, but other than that was sharp.

Manaea's final line was five innings, two hits, one run, two walks and five strikeouts.

He picked up his first win and lowered his ERA to 2.19.

RHP Huascar Brazoban followed with a scoreless top of the sixth.

RHP Jose Butto came in next in the top of the seventh after returning from an illness, but had a difficult outing allowed two runs on three hits  and retired only two out of the five hitters he faced.

LHP Brooks Raley followed and picked up the last out in the top of the seventh.

Raley stayed in for the top of the eighth and picked up the first two outs and was then taken out.

RHP Edwin Diaz came on and got the last out in the top of the eighth.

Diaz stayed in for the top of the ninth and picked up the last three outs for a four-out save and 21st save of the season.

The Mets are off tomorrow and return back to action on Friday, July 25 on the West Coast at the San Francisco Giants at 10:15 p.m.

Mets Beat Angels 3-2 Powered By Alvarez

The New York Mets beat the Los Angeles Angels 3-2 tonight at Citi Field for their third consecutive win and improved their record to 58-44.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first four innings, but came alive in the bottom of the fifth.

2B Brett Baty doubled with two outs and then catcher Francisco Alvarez followed with a game-tying two-run homer.

3B Ronny Mauricio followed with a single and stole second and then LF Brandon Nimmo followed with the game-winning RBI single.

RHP Frankie Montas had a scoreless top of the first helped out by RF Juan Soto throwing out 1B Nolan Schanuel at home and then gave up a solo homer to RF Jorge Soler in the top of the second.

Montas had scoreless innings in the top of the third and fourth and then ran into trouble in the top of the fifth after giving up two doubles and a walk which lead to run.

Montas was able to escape out of a based loaded jam to limit the damage without allowing any more runs.

Montas came back out for the top of the sixth and had back-to-back strikeouts and gave up a single and was then taken out.

His final line was 5.2 innings, eight hits, two runs, two walks and six strikeouts. 

He picked up his third win and lowered his ERA to 4.62.

RHP Rico Garcia came in next and got the last out in the top of the sixth and the first two outs in the top of the seventh and was then taken out.

RHP Reed Garrett followed and picked up the last out in the top of the seventh and threw a scoreless top of the eighth.

RHP Ryne Stanek closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth and picked up his third save of the season.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Wednesday, July 23 at home against the Angels at 1:10 p.m.

Mets Rally To Beat Angels 7-5 After Trailing By Four Runs

The New York Mets beat the Los Angeles Angels 7-5 tonight at Citi Field for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 57-44.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first three innings until the bottom of the fourth after CF Jeff McNeil walked with one out and two batters later, 3B Brett Baty hit a two-run homer.

After scoreless innings in the bottom of the fifth and sixth, catcher Francisco Alvarez walked to lead off the bottom of the seventh and 2B Luisangel Acuna followed with a single.

LF Brandon Nimmo was then hit by a pitch to load the bases.

SS Francisco Lindor came up next and grounded into a fielder's choice to bring home a run and also beat out the grounder to avoid double play.

Lindor then stole second and RF Juan Soto followed with game-tying two-run single.

In the bottom of the eighth, Baty walked with one out and Alvarez followed with a double to right field.

Pinch hitter Ronny Mauricio came up next and grounded out to 3B Yoan Mocada, but Moncada'a throw was wide home which allowed Alvarez to score game-winning run.

Nimmo followed with a sacrifice fly.

RHP Kodai Senga started out with a scoreless top of the first and then gave up a solo homer to catcher Logan O'Hoppe in the top of the second.

Senga gave up a lead-off hit in the top of the third and after retiring the next two hitters, walked DH Mike Trout and then gave up a two-run double to LF Taylor Ward.

Senga gave up a RBI single to the following hitter CF Joe Adell and then Senga was taken out after the inning.

His final line was three innings, four hits, four runs, three walks and five strikeouts.

RHP Kevin Herget followed with 2.1 scoreless innings.

RHP Chris Devenski came in next with one out in the top of the sixth and got the final two outs.

Devenki came back out for the top of the seventh and had a more difficult time with a single and caught stealing, walk, hit by pitch and a RBI single and was then taken out.

RHP Huascar Brazoban came in next and picked up two huge outs to keep it a three-run game.

LHP Brooks Raley threw a scoreless top of the eighth and picked up his first win.

RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the top of the ninth and bounced back from his blown save yesterday with a dominating performance striking out the side to pick up his 20th save.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Tuesday, July 22 at home against the Angels at 7:10 p.m.
