Mets Rally To Beat Phillies 6-2 in Game 1 of NLDS with Five-Run Eighth Inning And Stellar Bullpen

The New York Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies 6-2 in Game 1 of the National League Division Series this afternoon at Citizens Bank Park to take a 1-0 series lead.

The Met offense was shutdown by RHP Zack Wheeler for the first seven innings, managing only one hit and three walks, but came alive in the top of the eighth against the bullpen.

Catcher Francisco Alvarez led off with a single and then SS Francisco Lindor followed with a walk.

3B Mark Vientos then drove in pinch-runner Harrison Bader with a RBI single.

LF Brandon Nimmo followed with the go-ahead RBI single to score Lindor.

1B Pete Alonso then hit a sacrifice fly which scored Vientos.

2B Jose Iglesias followed with a single to advance Nimmo to second.

Pinch-hitter J.D. Martinez then drove in Nimmo with a RBI single.

RF Starling Marte followed with a sacrifice fly which scored Iglesias.

In the top of the ninth, Bader led off with a single and stole second.

Two batters later, Nimmo drove in Bader for his second RBI of the game.

RHP Kodai Senga made his first and only start of the season since July 26 before straining a calf muscle and gave up a lead-off homer to DH Kyle Schwarber in the bottom of the first, but then settled down after that.

Senga had a scoreless bottom of the second and was taken out after the inning with 31 pitches.

His final line was two innings, one hit, one run, one walk and three strikeouts.

LHP David Peterson followed with three scoreless innings in the bottom of the third, fourth and fifth innings.

RHP Reed Garrett threw two scoreless innings in the bottom of the sixth and seventh.

Garrett picked up the win.

RHP Phil Maton threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

RHP Ryne Stanek gave up a RBI double to pinch-hitter Kody Clemens in the bottom of the ninth, and then came back to pick up the last three outs.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Sunday, October 6 at the Phillies at 4:08 p.m.

The New York Mets finalized their roster prior to the National League Division Series against the Phillies. It is a similar roster to the wild card roster with RHP Kodai Senga as the main addition after manager Carlos Mendoza announced yesterday he will the Game 1 starter.

Mets Rally To Beat Brewers 4-2 to Advance to NLDS Powered By Alonso Three-Run Homer

The New York Mets beat the Milwaukee Brewers 4-2 tonight at American Family Field to win the National League Wild Card Series 2 games to 1 to advance to the National League Division Series

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first eight innings, but then came alive in the top of the ninth.

SS Francisco Lindor led off with a walk and two batters later, LF Brandon Nimmo singled.

1B Pete Alonso came up next and delivered the biggest hit in his career with a three-run homer off Brewers closer RHP Devin Williams to right field after he struggled in his previous three at-bats and for the first two games.

Two batters later, DH Jesse Winker was hit by a pinch and then stole second.

RF Starling Marte followed by driving in Winker with a RBI single for a much needed insurance run.

LHP Jose Quintana had a spectacular start with six scoreless innings.

He gave up four hits and one walk with five strikeouts.

RHP Jose Butto came in next in the bottom of the seventh and an uncharacteristic poor outing allowing back-to-back homers to pinch-hitter Jake Bowers and RF Sal Frelick and was then taken out with one out in the inning.

RHP Edwin Diaz followed and picked up the last two outs in the bottom of the seventh.

Diaz stayed in for the the bottom of the eighth and had a scoreless inning to pick up the win.

LHP David Peterson came on in the bottom of the ninth and had his first career save in a win or Go Home Playoff game.

The Mets now look ahead to the National League Division Series at the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday, October 8 at 4:08 p.m.

Mets Lose To Brewers 5-3 in Game 2 of WC Series After Blowing Eighth Inning Lead

The New York Mets lost to the Milwaukee Brewers 5-3 tonight at American Family Field to tie up the National League Wild Card series at 1-1.

LHP Sean Manaea got off to a tough start in the bottom of the first after he gave up a lead-off homer to LF Jackson Churio.

Manaea was able to settle down after that with scoreless innings in the bottom of the second, third and fourth, but then ran into trouble in the bottom of the fifth.

Manaea gave up a lead-off double to 2B Brice Tarang and after a ground-out by Chourio, he then gave up a sac fly to CF Blake Perkins and was taken out after the inning.

Manaea's final line was five innings, six hits, two runs, 0 walks and four strikeouts.

RHP Reed Garrett followed with a scoreless bottom of the sixth.

RHP Ryne Stanek threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh.

RHP Phil Maton came on in the bottom of the eighth and gave up a lead-off homer to Churio and then a single to Perkins.

Maton was then able to get catcher Wilson Contreras to ground into a double play, but then gave up a single to SS Willy Adames and then allowed a two-run homer to pinch-hitter Garrett Mitchell.

The Met offense got on the board immediately in the top of the first after SS Francisco Lindor led off with a walk and two batters later, 3B Mark Vientos reached on an infield hit and LF Brandon Nimmo came through with a RBI single.

In the top of the second, RF Starling Marte reached on an error by RHP Frankie Montas with one out and then CF Tyrone Taylor followed with a single.

Catcher Francisco Alvarez then drove in Marte with a RBI single and Lindor followed with a sacrifice fly.

2B Jose Iglesias singled to load the bases, but Vientos flew out to right to end the threat.

The offense was not able to score any more runs wasting several scoring opportunities that could have put the game away.

They went 2-11 with runners in scoring position leaving nine runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Thursday, October 3 at the Brewers at 8:38 p.m.
