Mets Lost to White Sox 9-4 After Canning And Offense Have Rough Outings

The New York Mets lost to the Chicago White Sox 9-4 at Citi Field this afternoon to snap their four-game winning streak and dropped their record to 34-22.

RHP Griffin Canning got off to a tough start in the top of the first after he gave up a one-out to RF Mike Taufman and then a double to the following hitter 1B Miguel Vargas.

Canning then gave a RBI single to LF Andrew Benintendi.

Canning's struggles continued in the top of the second after he was let down by his defense after 3B Brett Baty and 2B Jeff McNeil made errors to start the inning.

Canning retired the next two hitters and then gave up a two-run double to Taufman.

Canning had another tough inning in the top of the third after he gave up a lead-off double to 2B Lenyn Sosa and then walked DH Edgar Quero.

Two batters later, Canning gave up a RBI ground-out to 3B Josh Rojas and then Canning was taken out after the inning.

Canning's final line was three innings, four hits, five runs (3 earned), four walks and three strikeouts.

LHP Brandon Waddell followed and threw two scoreless innings in the top of the fourth and fifth, but gave up two runs in the top of the sixth on a RBI triple by Benintendi and a RBI single by Sosa.

Waddell stayed in for the top of the seventh and gave up a sacrifice fly to CF Michael Taylor.

Waddell stayed in for the top of the eighth and gave up a solo homer to Benintendi.

RHP Ryne Stanek threw a scoreless top of the ninth.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first two innings until the bottom of the third after LF Brandon Nimmo and RF Juan Soto walked to start the inning and three batters later, DH Mark Vientos came through with a three-run homer.

The offense did not do much for the next five innings until the bottom of the ninth after Nimmo walked with one out and two batters later, 1B Pete Alonso drove in Nimmo with a RBI double.

Baty followed with a walk and then Vientos struck out to end the game.

The Mets offense's struggles with men on base continued after they went 2-12 with runners in scoring position leaving 11 runners on base.

The Mets are off tomorrow and return back to action on Friday, May 30 at home against the Rockiest at 7:10 p.m.

Mets Beat White Sox 6-4 Powered By Alonso and Young

The New York Mets beat the Chicago White Sox 6-4 at Citi Field tonight for their third consecutive win and improved their record to 34-21.

The Met offense got off to a a fast start in the bottom of the first after LF Brandon Nimmo reached on an infield hit with one out and two batters later, 1B Pete Alonso drove in Nimmo with a two-run homer.

3B Brett Baty followed with a single and then DH Jarred Young hit a two-run homer.

After a scoreless bottom of the second, Baty singled to lead off the bottom of the third and Young followed with a double.

Two batters later, CF Jeff McNeil drove in Baty with a sacrifice fly.

The Met offense did not do much for the next four innings, but then came alive again in the bottom of the eighth.

McNeil singled with two outs and then was taken out for pinch-runner Luisangel Acuna.

Catcher Francisco Alvarez followed with a single to advance Acuna to third and then SS Francisco Lindor drove in a much needed insurance run with a RBI single.

RHP Tylor Megill got off to a tough start in the top of the first after he gave up a two-run homer to 1B Miguel Vargas.

Megill was able to settle down after that with scoreless innings in the top of the second, third, fourth and fifth.

He picked up the first two outs in the top of the sixth and was then taken out.

His final line was 5.2 innings, four hits, two runs, four walks and six strikeouts.

He picked up his fourth win.

RHP Jose Butto came in next and worked out of a based loaded jam.

Butto came back out for the top of the seventh and gave up two singles and then a run on a passed ball and a RBI double to Vargas and was then taken out.

LHP Jose Castillo followed and escaped out of a based loaded jam.

Castillo stayed in for the top of the eighth and picked out one out and was then taken out.

RHP Reed Garrett came on and picked up the last five outs for his second save.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Wednesday, May 28 at home against the White Sox at 1:10 p.m.

Mets Beat White 2-1 on Lindor Walk-off Sacrifice Fly With Late Inning Rally

The New York Mets beat the Chicago White Sox 2-1 this afternoon at Citi Field for their third consecutive win and improved their record to 33-21.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first seven innings with three innings, but then broke through in the bottom of the eighth.

Catcher Francisco Alvarez led off with a single and was then taken out for pinch-hitter Luisangel Acuna.

SS Francisco Lindor followed with a strikeout, but then LF Brandon Nimmo singled to advance Acuna to third.

RF Juan Soto came up next and delivered game-tying sacrifice fly to score Acuna.

In the bottom of the ninth, CF Tyrone Taylor led off with a double and 2B Jeff McNeil followed with an infield hit.

Catcher Luis Torrens then singled to load the bases and Lindor came up and delivered walk-off sacrifice fly to right field to score Taylor.

RHP Clay Holmes cruised through the first three innings, but then ran into some trouble in the top of the fourth.

Holmes walked RF Mike Tauchman and then gave up a double to 1B Miguel Vargas.

Holmes gave up a sacrifice fly to the next hitter DH Andrew Benintendi.

Holmes was able to keep the game tied and had a scoreless top of the fifth.

He picked up the first two outs in the top of the sixth and was then taken out.

His final line was 5.2 innings, four hits, one run, three walks and three strikeouts.

RHP Jose Butto came in next and picked up the last out in the top of the sixth with the based loaded and came back out for the top of the seventh and was taken out after a one-out walk.

RHP Huascar Brazoban followed with 1.1 scoreless innings.

LHP Jose Castillo came in next and picked up the last out in the top of the ninth.

RHP Edwin Diaz followed in the top of the ninth and threw a scoreless inning with three strikeouts to pick up his second win.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Tuesday, May 27 at home against the White Sox at 7:10 p.m.

Mets Beat Dodgers 3-1 Powered By Alonso To Take Series

The New York Mets beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-1 tonight at Citi Field to take two out of three games in the series and improved their record to 32-21.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first after RF Juan Soto reached on an error by two outs and then 1B Pete Alonso followed with a two-run homer.

After a scoreless bottom of the second, SS Francisco Lindor led off the top of the third with a single and then 3B Mark Vientos reached on an infield single and Lindor reached third on an error.

RF Juan Soto followed with a RBI ground-out.

RHP Kodai Senga had a rocky start in the top of the first after he gave up a lead-off homer to DH Shohei Ohtani and then SS Mookie Betts reached on an error by 3B Mark Vientos.

Senga then gave up a double to 1B Freddie Freeman, but was helped out by his defense after CF Tyrone Taylor made an remarkable throw on a fly-out by catcher Will Smith to throw Betts out at home.

Senga then struck out RF Teoscar Hernandez to end the inning.

Senga was able to settle down after that with 1-2-3 innings in the top of the second and third, and got a key double play in the top of the fourth and worked around a double and walk.

He worked out of a based loaded jam in the top of the fifth after catcher Will Smith grounded out to third with two outs.

Senga struck out Hernandez to start off the top of the sixth and walked 3B Max Muncy and was then taken out.

Senga's final line was 5.1 innings, five hits, one run, four walks and five strikeouts.

He picked up his fifth win and lowered his ERA to 1.46.

RHP Ryne Stanek came in next and got CF Andy Pages to ground into a double play.

RHP Max Kranick followed with two scoreless innings in the top of the seventh and eighth.

RHP Reed Garrett closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth to pick up his first save.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Monday, May, 26 at home against the Chicago White Sox at 4:10 p.m.
