Mets Trade Freddy Peralta To Rays

The New York Mets traded RHP Freddy Peralta to the Tampa Bay Rays for prospects Aidan Smith, Emillen Pitre and Gary Gill Hill.

Peralta had a disappointing season for the Mets with a 4.99 ERA and 1.47 WHIP in 22 starts.

Smith is a 22-year outfielder who was the Rays 15th best prospect. Gill Hill is a 21-year old starting pitcher who is the Rays 26th prospect.

Pitre is 23-year old infielder who is ranked 27th in the Rays minor league system. He is known for his hitting and speed with .308 average with 32 stolen bases and 28 XBH's in 88 games between High-A and Double-A this season.

Mets Lose To Marlins 6-2 After Offense Struugles

The New York Mets lost to the Miami Marlins 6-2 at Citi Field this afternoon for their second consecutive loss and dropped their record to 47-65.

Mets LHP Zac Thornton was let down by his defense in the top of the first after SS Francisco Lindor made an error on the first play of the game on a routine grounder. The error led to a run on a RBI single by catcher Liam Hicks.

In the top of the second, Thornton gave up a two-run homer to RF Javier Sanoja.

Thornton had a scoreless top of the third and then gave up a sacrifice fly to SS Otto Lopez in the top of the fourth 

Thorton picked up two outs in the top of the fifth and was then taken out.

His final line was 4.2 innings, six hits, four runs, (three runs), three walks and two strikeouts.

RHP Daniel Duarte came in next and gave up a two-run homer to DH Griffin Conine in the top of the sixth. 

RHP Jonathan Pintaro followed with two scoreless innings in the top of the seventh and eighth.

RHP Kevin Herget threw a scoreless top of the ninth.

The Met offense did not do much outside of a two-run homer by LF Tyrone Taylor in the bottom of the second. Taylor has been locked in at the plate since he returned from the injured list on June 26th. He is hitting .354 with seven home runs, four doubles and 14 RBI. He leads the majors in OPS since June 28th at 1,287.

The offense went 0-1 with runners in scoring position leaving four runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Sunday, August 2 at home against the Marlins at 1:40 p.m.

Mets Lose To Marlins 5-2 As Kodai Senga Struggles In Fifth Inning

The New York Mets lost to the Miami Marlins 5-2 tonight at Citi Field and dropped their record to 47-64.

Mets RHP Kodai Senga started out well with four scoreless innings, but then ran into trouble in the top of the fifth.

Senga gave up a lead-off walk to RF Griffin Conine and after a wild pitch, walked LF Heirberto Hernandez and then gave up a RBI single to CF Jakob Marsee and was then taken out.

RHP Xzavion Curry came in next and gave up a two-run single to catcher Joe Mack and a RBI single to 2B Xavier Edwards.

Curry stayed in for the top of the sixth and gave up a solo homer to 1B Kyle Stowers.

Curry remained in the game and threw three scoreless innings in the top of the seventh, eighth and ninth.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first four innings until the bottom of the fifth after DH Jorge Polanco reached on an error with two outs and then catcher Francisco Alvarez walked and then LF A.J. Ewing drove in Polanco with a RBI single.

In the bottom of the seventh, SS Francisco Lindor hit a solo homer.

The offense was unable to come up with timely hits and they went 2-6 with runners in scoring position leaving seven runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Saturday, August 1 at home against the Marlins at 4:10 p.m.

Mets Trade A.J. Minter To Twins

The New York Mets traded reliver LHP A.J. Minter to the Minnesota Twins for prospects Bruin Agbayani and Billy Amick.

Agbayani is the Twins number 29th ranked prospect and the son of former Met outfielder Benny Agbayani. He has played shortstop and second base in the minor leagues and has spent his whole career in low-Single A. This year he's hit .266 with an OPS of .753 in 10 games, but his season was set back by an injury in May.

Amick is the Twins 21st ranked prospect and has played third base and first base. He is hitting .217 with 23 homers and an OPS of .820 in 86 games in Double-A.

Minter was hurt most of last year with a lat injury, but has pitched well in his return this season with a 2.35 ERA and 1.00 WHIP in 23 appearances this season.
