Mets Dominate Nationals 10-0 For Fifth Consecutive Win Led By Another Strong Offensive Performance

 The New York Mets beat the Washington Nationals 10-0 tonight at Citi Field for their fifth consecutive win and improved their record to 34-17.

The offense got on the board immediately in the bottom of the first after CF Mark Canha led off with a single and RF Starling Marte followed with a two-run homer.

After a scoreless bottom of the second,  1B Pete Alonso singled with one out in the bottom of third and 3B J.D. Davis followed with an infield hit.

DH Jeff McNeil then singled to load the bases and two batters later, 2B Luis Guillorme continued his torrid hot streak with a two-run single.

In the bottom of the fifth, McNeil led off with an infield single and then 3B Eduardo Escobar followed with a single.

Two batters later, catcher Tomas Nido reached on an infield hit to load the bases and then CF Mark Canha came up and broke the game open with a two-run double.

Marte then struck out, but SS Francisco Lindor kept the inning alive with a two-run single.

In the bottom of the sixth, Davis led off with a single and two batters later, Escobar hit a two-run homer,

RHP Trevor Williams had a solid outing with five scoreless innings allowing three hits with two walks and one strikeout.

Williams picked up his first win and lowered his ERA to 3.58.

RHP Drew Smith followed with 1.2 scoreless innings.

LHP Joely Rodriguez came in next and threw 1.1 scoreless innings.

RHP Adonis Medina closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon at home against the Nationals at 1:10 p.m.

Mets Dominate Nationals 13-5 Behind Powerful Offense

 The New York Mets beat the Washington Nationals 13-5 tonight at Citi Field for their fourth consecutive win and improved their record to 33-17.

The offense got off to another fast start in the bottom of the first after 2B Luis Guillorme led off with a single and RF Starling Marte followed with a single.

SS Francisco Lindor then hit a RBI single and 1B Pete Alonso walked to load the bases.

DH Jeff McNeil then came up and grounded into a double play and brought in Marte for the second run of the inning.

In the bottom of the second, CF Mark Canha led off with a single and LF Nick Plummer followed with a  RBI double.

Two batters later, Guillorme hit a RBI single to score Plummer and then Marte hit a two-run homer.

In the following inning, Canha walked with one out and then two batters later catcher Tomas Nido singled.

Guillorme followed with a walk to load the bases and the next hitter Marte delivered a two-run single.

SS Francisco Lindor followed with a RBI single.

In the bottom of the fourth, 3B Eduardo Escobar singled with one out and then Canha hit a single.

Plummer came up next and continued his strong start with a three-run homer, his second career homer in his second game.

The bats did not much for the next three innings, but in the bottom of the eighth 1B Pete Alonso capped off the scoring barrage with a solo homer, his thirteenth homer of the season.

The offense exploded for a total of 13 runs on 16 hits with three homers.

LHP David Peterson had a rough top of the first after he loaded the bases and then gave up a two-run single to 1B Josh Bell and then a sacrifice fly to LF Lance Thomas.

Peterson settled down after that with scoreless innings in the top of the second, third and fourth, but ran into trouble in the top of the fifth after he gave up a lead-off single to 2B Cesar Hernandez and then walked catcher Keibert Ruiz.

Peterson then got RF Juan Soto to fly out and struck out pinch-hitter Yadiel Hernandez, but then gave up a RBI single to Bell and walked Thomas and was then taken out.

His final line was 4.2 innings, 6 hits, 4 runs, 4 walks and one strikeout.

RHP Colin Holderman came in next and retired 3B Maikel Franco on a pop-up to end the inning.

Holderman stayed in for the top of the sixth and gave up a one-out triple to SS Alcides Escobar and then gave up a RBI single to the next hitter 2B Cesar Hernandez, but was able to get out of the inning with allowing just the one run.

His final line was 1.1 innings. 2 hits, 1 run and 1 strikeout.

He picked up his second win.

LHP Chasen Shreve then threw a scoreless top of the seventh.

RHP Stephen Nogosek closed it out with scoreless innings in the top of the eighth and ninth innings.

The Mets next game is at home against the Nationals tomorrow night, Tuesday May 31th at 7:10 p.m.

Mets Rally To Beat Phillies 5-4 On a Walk-Off Double By Eduardo Escobar

The New York Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies 5-4 tonight at Citi Field to sweep their three-game series and improved their record to 32-17.

The offense got on the board immediately in the bottom of the first after 2B Luis Guillorme led off with a double and then RF Starling Marte followed with a single.

SS Francisco Lindor then grounded into a fielder's choice that drove in Guillorme and also allowed Marte to reach second after SS Jorge Carmargo made a fielding error,

1B Pete Alonso then hit a bloop single and 3B Eduardo Escobar followed with a RBI ground-out to bring in the second run of the game.

CF Mark Canha came up next and hit a RBI ground-out to bring in the third run of the inning.

The bats did not much after that until the bottom of the ninth after LF Nick Plummer led off and hit his first homer of his career in his first start to tie the game. It was the first time since 2006 that a Met has hit his first career homer in the ninth inning or later.

In the bottom of the tenth, Lindor led off and struck out, but then 1B Pete Alonso was intentionally walked and then Escobar came up and delivered a walk-off RBI double to bring in Marte who started the inning on second base as the automatic runner.

RHP Chris Bassitt started out well with two scoreless innings, but ran into trouble in the top of the third after he gave up a lead-off double to CF Odubel Herrera and then walked SS Jorge Camargo and LF Kyle Schwarber to load the bases.

Bassitt was able to limit the damage in the inning after he was able to get the next hitter 3B Alec Bohm to hit into a double play which brought in a run, but did not allow any more runs in the inning and kept a 3-1 lead after the top of the third.

Bassitt settled down into a nice groove after that and retired the last 10 hitters he faced.

His final line was 6 innings, 2 runs, 1 run, 3 walks and 7 strikeouts.

RHP Drew Smith followed in the top of the seventh and retired the first two hitters he faced, but then ran into trouble after he tried to deflect a comebacker to the next hitter catcher J.T. Realmuto which caused him to leave the game with a pinky injury.

LHP Joely Rodriguez came in to get the last out in the top of the seventh.

Rodriguez stayed in for the top of the eighth and worked around two walks and retired Schwarber on a ground-out and DH Bryce Harper on a fly-out and was taken out after Harper flew out.

RHP Adam Ottavino cane in next and gave up a three-run homer to RF Nick Castellanos.

RHP Stephen Nogosek threw a scoreless top of the ninth

RHP Edwin Diaz threw a scoreless top of the tenth and picked up his second win.

The Mets next game is at home against the Washington Nationals tomorrow night, Monday May 30th at 7:10 p.m.

The New York Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies 8-2 at Citi Field tonight for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 31-17.

After a scoreless bottom of the first, 3B Eduardo Escobar singled with one out in the bottom of the second and CF Mark Canha singled and then DH Dom Smith hit a sacrifice fly.

In the bottom of the fourth, SS Francisco Lindor led off with a walk, 1B Pete Alonso followed with a single and then 2B Jeff McNeil came through with a three-run homer.

In the following inning, 2B Luis Guillorme reached on a bunt single with one out and then RF Starling Marte doubled. 

SS Francisco Lindor then broke the game open with a two-run triple and Alonso followed with a sacrifice fly.

After a scoreless bottom of the sixth, Guillorme singled with one out in the bottom of the seventh and after Marte followed with a walk, Lindor delivered once again with a RBI single.

RHP Taijuan Walker allowed two runs on six hits in five innings. He gave up three walks and one strikeout. He picked up his third win.

RHP Colin Holderman followed with two scoreless innings in the top of the sixth and seventh innings.

RHP Adam Ottavino threw a scoreless top of the eighth.

RHP Seth Lugo threw a scoreless top of the ninth.
